Resident Evil 6 update arrives on Xbox 360 and PS3 in mid-December

Capcom has stepped forward to man up, sharing news that the free Resident Evil 6 title update which was announced earlier in October will only be making its way to the Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms from the middle of December onwards, leaving us with one less thing to rage about when Christmas rolls around. This particular update will include the foreboding ‘No Hope’ difficulty level alongside co-op gameplay for Ada Wong’s campaign that will come unlocked right from the beginning of the game.

Capcom will use this situation to include two mechanical tweaks into Resident Evil 6 as well, letting players widen the camera’s field of view which is ideal when you have a horde of brain-hungry undead knocking at your door. Apart from that, the update is said to enable the English language audio to be work alongside subtitles in alternative languages, a feature that was previously found only on movies on DVD and Blu-ray. No idea on details for the PC version though.

Tech companies launch map-blurring service in Germany due to privacy concerns

Back in May 2010, German authorities poked around the issue of what information Google collected via its Street View cars, eventually leading to the search engine giant’s admission that it pulled personal information from unsecured WiFi networks. Thus began what has been an ongoing series of privacy concerns in Germany regarding online map services like Google Maps. To help allay these concerns, several companies have banded together to form a map-blurring service.

In 2011, Google ceased operation of Street View cars in Germany despite a ruling by the Berlin State Supreme Court that it was legal for the company to take the photographs. German residents could take advantage of an opt-out program to have their houses blurred on Maps, something that almost one-quarter of a million households opted for. Now, to help mitigate the myriad of privacy concerns, Google and several other companies have joined together to launch the service geodatendienstekodex.de.

The joint-effort organization is called Verein Selbstregulierung Informationswirtschaft, which, according to ZDNet, means something akin to “The Association for Self-Regulation in IT.” The organization’s members include Google, Nokia, Microsoft, Panolife, Deutsche Telekom, Deutsche Post, and Encourage Directories. How does the service work?

German residents with privacy concerns can visit Geodatendienstekodex.de and file a complaint regarding an image of, for example, an exposed license plate or other issue. The complaint will then be reviewed by the relevant company and the image blurred if necessary. This act of self-regulation will benefit everyone, ultimately, eliminating the need to pass a law while protecting the privacy of those who happen to get caught in the camera’s range.

New Mac mini taken apart, benchmarked

The updated Mac mini was introduced to the world just a couple of days ago, and it did not take too long for someone to take one of these newfangled desktops and tear it apart, revealing to all and sundry what lies underneath the hood. Of course, we are well aware that Intel’s Ivy Bridge processors will power this puppy, with the option for one to configure the Mac mini to carry a whopping 16GB RAM, although the entry-level model will come with a quarter of that amount. At least it is far better than its predecessor that featured just 2GB RAM, making it barely enough for OS X Mountain Lion to chug along..

Apple’s new Fusion Drive is also worth noting, where this hybrid device will rely on a solid state drive in order to maximize read/write times, while a hard drive will help deliver the need for high storage capacity. Chances are the mid-tier range of the Mac mini will be the most popular thanks to the $799 price point with it carrying Fusion. A Geekbench benchmark test was performed on the updated Mac mini that delivered superior performance to its predecessor, which is to be expected. Are you all up for the new Mac mini?

Huawei Ascend Y heads to US Cellular, is available now for $30 on contract

Despite being involved in a recent national security controversy in the US, Huawei isn’t quite ready to slow down its plans to bring as many handsets as possible over to Stateside shores. Today, the Chinese company is making its Gingerbread-packing Huawei Ascend Y available to US Cellular subscribers, giving folks who want to keep spending to a minimum yet another Android option on the regional carrier. The Ascend Y itself boasts a 3.5-inch, 480 x 320 screen, which is paired alongside a 3.2-megapixel rear camera and, for audiophiles, DTS Envelo — a technology “for virtual surround sound to enhance audio experience.” The Huawei Ascend Y is up for grabs now at a decent price of $30 (with a two-year contract, of course), though the carrier’s site currently has it listed for a mere one cent. No word on how long this promo will last, so those of you interested may want to check out the source link below right about now.
