Yosemite Rescue: Park Rangers Save Stranded Climber From El Capitan

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (AP) — A Canadian climber stranded in a snowstorm was recuperating Tuesday from a mild case of hypothermia after Yosemite National Park rangers rescued him from the face of the largest granite monolith in the world.

The 40-year-old climber was stuck 230 below the summit of iconic El Capitan late Sunday and unable to deploy a rain-deflecting cover when California’s first winter snowstorm of the season struck, park officials said. Temperatures dipped into the 20s, as four to six inches of snow fell.

The name of the climber has not been released, but he and a climbing partner began ascending a route known as Muir Wall on Oct. 14. They were due to reach the top on Sunday night ahead of the storm.

Star Wars R2-D2 NES console is truly in a galaxy of its own

There are case mods, and then there are case mods. What you see in the video above is truly one of the more outstanding case mods where the humble NES is concerned, taking the cult movie favorite R2-D2 from the Star Wars space opera and turning it into a moving console of sorts. Custom built by Mark Bongo of Major League Mods, this little astromech droid that could comes with the original NES console fitted within itself, where there is a cartridge slot located at the back alongside the power plug, audio and video plugs. In front, you will find the power and reset buttons which will respond in R2-D2′s now famous beeps and boops when pressed. You are also able to enjoy blue LED accents located along the bottom, not to mention the customized R2-D2-themed controller, red and blue buttons, and all that. Definitely one of the cooler case mods we have seen for an old school console, and C3PO does not seem to get much love at all.

Nicholas Acosta, Texas Student, Was Bullied By Teacher Jenny Salazar, Who Tied His Long Curly Hair In Pigtails, Parents Say

The parents of a six-year-old North Texas boy claim their son was left feeling humiliated after his teacher tied his hair in pigtails in front of his first-grade class at Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Grand Prairie.

KTVT reports that Nicholas Acosta would not stop playing with his long curly hair during Mass, and the pigtails were his teacher’s “way of fixing him, bullying my son, harassing him and embarrassing him in front of the students,” according to the boy’s mother, Erica Acosta.

School Principal Linda Santos told the family that the offending teacher, Jenny Salazar, was reprimanded and will be evaluated closely while the incident is investigated. In the meantime, Salazar sent a letter of apology to the Acostas that read:

2013 Chevy Volt receives update after reports of shutdowns

We’ve reached this strange moment in time when updates are released for our cars in the same manner they’re released for our gadgets. Thus is the case with the 2013 Chevy Volt, which GM has pushed a software update out for after reports of shutdowns. The manufacturer is not issuing a recall, however.

The problem cropped up on the GM-Volt forum, where users were reporting that the Volt would randomly shut down. According to the users, the powertrain would shutdown, but the brakes and steering would continue to work. It would take several minutes of sitting before the car restarted properly.

In response, GM has issued an update for the car’s software that should solve the problem. Owners who want the update will need to head over to their local dealer, which will update the vehicle’s software. The process is said to take about an hour. Thus far, no reports of accidents caused by this issue have been reported.

The Chevy Volt is an extended-range hybrid vehicle that’s currently enjoying high sales, which jumped twice in August and September. The Volt features a lithium-ion battery and the Voltec electric drive system with a 1.4L gasoline powered range extender. The MSRP is $39,145.

Obama: Wall Street Should Change Executive Pay Incentives

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama, who once called bank executives “fat cats” and their pay “obscene,” says Wall Street needs to change executive pay incentives that reward risky bets that can yield fortunes but can also devastate financial institutions.

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Obama says that despite congressional passage of a financial regulation overhaul in 2010, there still are not enough adequate means of holding risk takers in the industry accountable if their investment schemes fail.

Apple to exchange 4th gen iPads for the iPad 3?

If you think that the iPad 3 (or the new iPad, depending on which side of the fence that you are on) that you just bit into tasted a bit sour, especially when you have Apple announcing a refreshed version of the new iPad just earlier this morning, here is some bit of news that might just make you happy, assuming that it is true, of course. Word on the street has it that Apple could actually allow those who picked up the new iPad recently to exchange it for the newly announced updated iPad.

Of course, this is not a universal truth, and neither did Apple step forward to issue an official explanation on their part to cement such a deal, but ther are whispers on the ground that point towards the possibility of Apple Stores exchanging the new iPad which was purchased within the past 30 days for the fourth generation model, only on condition that the new iPad brought in for exchange is still in good condition. This might just be a store policy and not necessarily Apple’s official policy, so I guess you can always try your luck out.

‘Happy Endings’ Premiere: Alex And Dave Decide How Serious They Want To Be (VIDEO)

It was better late than never as ABC finally brought fans the season premiere of “Happy Endings.” And things were pretty straightforward this time, with the gang broken up into their respective couples — as Penny and Max realized, they’re pretty much a couple. This season, the comedy moves from its usual slot as part of ABC’s Wednesday night block, pairing up with “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23” on Tuesdays.

The major development of the week was with Alex and Dave. Sure, she left him at the altar, but those crazy kids decided to try the casually sleeping together thing. Only, it turned out neither of them were as cool with the “casual” part as they’d thought they would be.

After setting Dave up on a date with a hot bartender, Alex crashed it with a Playgirl model. By the end of it, they’d both abandoned their dates and realized they didn’t want to just be casual. But is it too much too soon? Will this coupling be the Rachel-and-Ross of “Happy Endings”?
