Honey Boo Boo Doesn’t Like Being On TV, Hates Fans Encounters (VIDEO)

The spotlight may love Honey Boo Boo, but apparently the 7-year-old reality star is growing tired of living life under it.

In an interview with HLN’s Dr. Drew, Alana Thompson, the star of “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,” awoke from pretending to be asleep to declare that she doesn’t like being on TV. Why? “Because fans come up to me and I hate it,” Alana said.

Alana and Mama June, who’s also known as ‘Coupon Queen,’ did a media blitz on a recent trip to Los Angeles. The duo stopped by “Jimmy Kimmel Live” where Alana proclaimed Barack Obama as her pick for president, responded to a viral Christopher Walken video and filmed at Lisa Vanderpump’s Villa Blanca. It was there where Honey Boo Boo met “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” scene-stealer, Giggy.

Revamped And Shrunken Taste Of Chicago Didn’t Come Close To Breaking Even

The shrunken and revamped Taste of Chicago still didn’t come close to breaking even and may never return to profitability, a top mayoral aide said Monday.

Cultural Affairs and Special Events Commissioner Michelle Boone said the she’s “still reconciling” the cost of city services before releasing a final financial report on the revamped 2012 Taste.

But, she disclosed that Chicago’s premier lakefront festival costs $6 million to stage and isn’t “close to breaking even.” That’s despite the fact that individual restaurants saw their highest profit margins in five years.

Grown Kidney “Organoids” Work in Rats

Renal organoids, implanted in a rat

With 26 million Americans having chronic kidney disease and almost 100,000 waiting for a kidney transplant, the numbers themselves are rather grim. Although the amount of donors and transplants has risen recently, researchers are still looking for ways to build an organic kidney that could replace defective ones. As a temporary solution, other researchers have looked at creating an artificial kidney that would give more time while waiting for a transplant.

The Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research has successfully built kidney “organoids”. They are not like “whole” kidneys, but they perform the same organic functions – mainly blood filtration. This was done by growing kidney tissues and the hard part was to promote enough blood vessels growth in the new areas so that blood filtering could happen. For now, it works in rats.

This is more an “extension” of the kidney than a replacement, but if it helps performing the function, why not? Although this seems very promising, we’re probably years, if not decades, away from any human medical application. What do you think of the idea of growing a kidney in a lab one day?

Bullying And Mental Health: Study Links Anxiety, Hyperactivity In Kids To Bullying

Much research probing the link between bullying and mental health has focused on how being bullied contributes to the development of issues like anxiety and depression. But a new study suggests the relationship goes both ways, finding that boys and girls with mental health disorders are three times more likely to be the bully.

The study, presented at the American Academy of Pediatrics’ national conference in New Orleans on Monday, found that kids with Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) — which is characterized by frequent tantrums and revenge seeking — were six times more likely to be identified as bullies than children with no mental health disorders, while children with depression were three times more likely. Children with anxiety and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) were also around three times more likely to be bullies, according to parental reports.

“There is a larger story behind why children bully,” said study author Dr. Frances Turcotte-Benedict, a Brown University masters of public health student and a fellow at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence. “And part of that story may include the diagnosis of a mental health disorder.”

iOS 6 adoption rate levels out at over 60% after one month

It’s been just over one month since Apple released iOS 6 to the masses, and it seems all the criticism and issues that users have been complaining about hasn’t stopped other users from upgrading to the new version. Mobile advertising network Chitika announced today that iOS 6 has finally been leveling out with more than 60% of iDevices upgraded to iOS 6.

While iOS 6 is installed on more than 60% of iOS devices, that still leaves 40% left over. Besides iOS 6, what’s the most popular iOS version that users are running? Chitika reports that 25% of users are running iOS 5.1 (myself included), 9% are still on iOS 4, and 4% are running iOS 5, with 1% of iDevice owners running an older version of iOS.

Obviously, you have to take into account that a lot of older iOS devices aren’t able to upgrade to iOS 6, including the original iPad, the iPhone 3G, and the third-generation iPod Touch. So, it would be interesting to see the iOS 6 adoption rate that only counts the devices that are actually able to upgrade to the new version. We’re sure the percentage would be a lot higher.

However, while Chitika says that adoption for iOS 6 has begun to level out, that doesn’t mean it has peaked yet. They expect a slower climb for iOS in the coming weeks, with the possibility of reaching a 70% market share when adoption eventually peaks. They mention that the upcoming release of the iPad mini will likely make that happen.
