The Internet Sweatshirt: I Came, I Saw, I Copied & Pasted

For the generation schooled by Wikipedia, babysat by YouTube and bred by bloggers… Ours is a university where everyone knows everyone (despite never having seen each other), where we major in everything and master nothing.

Is This the Spaceship That Will Take Us to Mars?

Somewhere deep in the Marshall Space Center, in an unmarked beige hangar, NASA is building a spaceship. A spaceship built with spare parts, scrap hardware from the International Space Stations, a left-over aluminum-lithium cylinder and even museum mockups. One day, it may become the vessel that takes humans to Mars. More »

Firefox wants you to help test its new Social API

Social integration is a big thing these days, and today Mozilla is ready to begin beta testing its new Firefox Social API. The end goal for the Social API is to eventually have integration with a number of different social sites, but today, the only thing the team has ready to go is Facebook Chat integration. If you’re ready to see what Firefox will look like in the not-to-distant future, then Mozilla wants you to help test this new feature.

With the Social API, you can have a number of Facebook features at your fingertips and ready to go without ever having to visit the actual Facebook site. Of course, you won’t have full Facebook functionality when using this feature, but there is quite a bit you can do. For starters, you can get the chat and news feed list right there in your browser, allowing you to see who’s online and available for chat as you surf the Internet.

The sidebar stays present as you go from page to page, and you can also share the page you’re currently viewing to your Facebook with just a “single click in the address bar.” The Facebook chat sidebar will also let you know when you have notifications waiting for you, and naturally, you hide the sidebar if it’s time to stop chatting and get back to work. If you want to give it a test spin, you’ll need to download the latest Firefox beta and then visit Facebook when you’ve got the beta installed. Once you’re there, Facebook will ask if you want to allow Firefox integration, and after that you’re one click away from getting started.

Mozilla assures that more social sites will be added later on, but for now, these beta tests will only be focused on Facebook integration. If you’ve got a lot of social profiles to keep track of, Mozilla’s Firefox Social API should be like a gift from the heavens, provided the full release later on goes smoothly. Are you going to give the beta test of Mozilla’s Social API a spin?

There’s an Exercise App That Can Control Your Heart Rate With Music

With that in mind, researchers at the University of Virginia have developed an app-based system capable of controlling your heartrate through strategically selected songs. More »

No Brainer USB Charger

Cords and cables. Aren’t they great? Look next to your bed or under your desk. I think it has become standard protocol to have a rat’s nest wherever you charge devices.

Leave it to the experts at Energizer to come up with a stylish way to charge.  The Energizer 5W Premium USB Wall Charger gives you a USB ports on a device with a fold out (US) plug. The advantage is the cable management however. This charger lets you easily wind your cord around the device for easy cable management. And it can handle a thicker cable. Oh and if that is not enough it even comes with a micro USB cable. While charging the light turns blue then turns off when done. And for just $14.62 on Amazon.com why not? You know you will get a quality product from Energizer.

Apple rumored to release iOS 6.0.1 soon, iOS 6.1 after holidays

Sources say that Apple has been testing an update for its most recent iOS version, iOS 6, and will be releasing it within the next few weeks — not quite in time for tomorrow’s Apple event. The company is said to have been testing the iOS 6.0.1 update with carrier partners around the country and it will end up fixing a general list of bugs and issues for iPhone and iPad users.

The update may entail things such as a fix for the horizontal lines bug on the screen when the keyboard or app folder is open, as well as a fix for the camera’s flash not going off when it’s supposed to. The update should also improve WiFi support and fix minor issues with cellular data, as well as address a bug that allowed access to Passbook details from the lock screen.

It’s also been said that Apple has just started testing iOS 6.1, which will most likely be a big update for iOS 6, and will hopefully include not only bugfixes, but improvements to multiple apps and settings, as well as some new features. However, if it’s true that Apple has just begun testing for iOS 6.1, it means that we probably won’t see the big update in time for the iPad mini‘s expected release date of November 2.

Details are still sparse on iOS 6.1, but we should at least expect it to arrive sometime after the holiday season, with iOS 6.0.1 coming sometime within the next few weeks or so, since an exact date is yet to be known. Apple has been constantly working on improving its own Maps app ever since the fiasco that started when the iPhone 5 released, so maybe iOS 6.1 will address a lot of those issues.

Borderlands Legends lands on iPhone and iPad later this month

You may be busy taking on Handsome Jack and his Hyperion goons in Borderlands 2 at the moment, but a new ad in the game’s digital strategy guide suggests that the Borderlands franchise will be getting a new mobile installment later on this month. Dubbed Borderlands Legends, gamers will take on the role of the original Borderlands characters – Brick, Roland, Mordecai, and Lillith – once more as they fend off wave after wave of enemies. Unfortunately, details on the game are still pretty slim, seeing as how Gearbox has yet to make an official announcement.

That’s not to say we’re completely clueless, however. According to the ad, which was discovered by Gearbox Forums member Ownzilla, Borderlands Legends will have players earning cash by killing enemies and completing waves. Sadly, it seems that the franchise’s loot aspect won’t be fully implemented, as players will use the cash they earn to buy new weapons. We’ve seen this plenty of times before, so those who have played similar free-to-play shooters in the past should have a pretty good grasp on the kind of game Borderlands Legends is by now.

In addition to earning money to buy new guns, Borderlands Legends players will be able to earn experience and level up, unlocking new skills along the way. It remains to be seen if this means the skill trees from the main games will be available in Borderlands Legends, but it sounds like at least something similar will be present in the game. The ad says that Borderlands Legends will be available on iPhone and iPad in October, and considering there’s just over a week left before November arrives, Borderlands Legends should be launching pretty soon.

That’s it as far as the available information goes, so now we just sit back and play the waiting game. If Gearbox is planning to stick with that October launch window, then we should be finding out more information soon. Keep it tuned here to SlashGear for more information.

Firefox begins testing Social API, here's how you can take part

You live a fast-paced life, and you don’t have time to stop your high-speed internet surfing just to check up on Suzie’s latest Facebook update. Mozilla understands your plight, digital denizen, and its “Social API” is here to help — Firefox browser users can beta test Facebook’s Messenger functionality right this minute, should they be able to pause for long enough to get it set up. Thankfully, that setup isn’t too strenuous, requiring little more than the latest beta version of the Firefox browser and an opt-in to the Social API program (via Facebook). Mozilla’s promising more social service integration as the beta rolls on (“soon”), but for now you can more readily stay in touch with Suzie at least, right?
