Fujitsu unveils Floral Kiss laptops – designed for women, by women

Computers are computers and can be used by both men and women alike, but apparently Fujitsu thinks that there is a distinction and has recently announced a range of laptops that was designed for women, by women. Dubbed the Floral Kiss these laptops have apparently been designed for women in mind not just in terms of more feminine colors, but in terms of the design of the laptop itself where the flip latch which opens the display has been created with long fingernails taken into consideration. New Angry Birds Star Wars teaser trailer revealed

Last week Rovio released a trailer for their upcoming game, Angry Birds Star Wars. It seems like the developer is really pushing the marketing on this upcoming variation really hard as they have since released a new trailer for the game. Unfortunately this trailer still does not give us any idea of what to expect in terms of gameplay, but it does show off an Angry Bird decked out in a Stormtrooper costume, which we have to admit looked more like a pig rather than a Stormtrooper. Either way we’re not sure what is the significance of this – perhaps we might have Angry Birds slingshotting themselves as Stormtroopers? Either way the game is set for a release on the 8th of November so we guess more details will be revealed then. In the meantime we guess you can check out the teaser trailer in the video above just to whet your appetite for what’s to come.

Galaxy Nexus discontinued by Bell Canada, next-gen Nexus could be on its way

Come 29th of October, there is a good chance that Google will be unveiling their new Nexus handset (or could be handsets, if the rumors are to be believed). If you’re looking for further proof that something like that could be taking place, the folks at Mobile Syrup have gotten their hands on a leaked screenshot of Canadian carrier, Bell, in which it was revealed that on the 18th of October (which has since passed), the Galaxy Nexus will be discontinued. Of course remaining stock will still be available for purchase, but once Bell is sold out, you will have to look for the handset via alternative means. If anything, this seems like a very good indication that the Galaxy Nexus’ successor is on the way – after all why discontinue such a popular handset unless you have something better to replace it with, right? We’re not sure if other carriers in the US or around the world have discontinued the Galaxy Nexus as well, or are going to, but we guess we will have to wait until the 29th of October to see the LG Nexus 4 rumors pan out. Be sure to check back with us then for the confirmation!

'Defiance' blends basic cable scifi TV, MMO FPS action when it launches in the spring

With shows like Battlestar Galactica, all of the Stargates and even Eureka on ice, where will Syfy go when it runs out of places and/or marginal celebrities to tell ghost stories about? One answer may be a show slated to debut next spring called Defiance, which will depict an Earth populated by humans and aliens alike trying to pick up the pieces after years of war between the two have left the planet in pieces. The twist here is that the show will run along concurrently with a massively multiplayer shooter being developed for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 from the makers of RIFT that takes place in the same world. The team behind it has been posting content about the making of both sides of the project recently (check out Massively by Joystiq’s coverage for more info), as well as a trailer for the TV show, which you can check out after the break. We’re not sure if this will go over with any more of a splash than Syfy’s usual Saturday night monster-of-the-week flicks, but at least they’re trying. We’ll be keeping an eye out for this one in April one way or another because really what else would we do, watch Revolution?

Details on the 2015 Ford Mustang surface

We already know that Ford is redesigning its iconic pony car, the Mustang for 2015. The new vehicle will celebrate the 50th birthday of the Mustang and is expected to debut on April 17, 2014. If that date is accurate, it would be exactly 50 years to the day since the original Mustang one on sale.

Any changes to one of Ford’s most iconic vehicles is sure to draw its share of ire from fans. So far, we’ve heard rumblings that the 2015 Mustang would be significantly changed from the existing vehicles both visually and technologically. Car & driver reports that the 2015 version of the Mustang won’t differ much from the existing car dimensionally.

It will have an all-new unibody with a slightly narrower track in the front and rear. The wheelbase is expected to be less than an inch shorter than the current car. One of the key changes is that the 2015 will get a MultiLink independent rear suspension that should expand rear seat space and cargo space in the next-generation vehicle.

Changes under the hood of the 2015 are expected to be announced. Whereas the car comes with a base V6 and three different V-8 engines currently, Ford is tipped to use a naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine in some international versions of the new Mustang. Scuttlebutt says that we will see a four-cylinder in the US and there will be a turbocharged direct-injected 2.4-liter four-cylinder available. Word is that boosted four-cylinder engine will be an upgrade over the current base V6 and will have around 250 hp or more. The 5.0-liter V8 engine will continue with the same 420 hp output with another Boss 302 coming tipped to produce 450 HP. What will happen to the Shelby GT500 remains to be seen.

Google’s Oct 29 Android details leak: LG Nexus 4, Jelly Bean v4.2, Nexus 7 3G & Nexus 10

Highlights of Google’s incoming October 29 event, including both a new Android phone and a tablet, have leaked ahead of time, with an updated version of Android itself also expected to debut. The line-up has been previewed in an internal video, a source tells The Next Web, including the LG Nexus 4 seen in various leaks over the past few weeks, and a 10-inch Samsung-made tablet with an iPad 3-besting screen resolution.

The Nexus 4, based on LG’s Optimus G, will feature a 1.5GHz quadcore processor – Qualcomm’s APQ8064 Snapdragon, paired with 2GB of RAM – and have a 4.7-inch 1280 x 768 display, slightly larger than the 4.65-inch panel of the current Galaxy Nexus. However, while Samsung’s Nexus uses a Super AMOLED display, LG’s will almost certainly use LG’s LCD-based True HD IPS+ panel.

Check out our full LG Optimus G review for more details

It will also be the first to use Android 4.2, previously believed to be called Key Lime Pie, but now tipped to continue the Jelly Bean branding until a more significant OS refresh arrives later on. Among the new features will be “Content in the center” which will put media from the Google Play store in a widget on the homescreen, as indeed the Nexus 7 focused on, along with “Tablet Sharing” that will allow multiple user accounts on each slate.

That will turn Android 4.2 tablets into more communal devices ideal to be shared by a household of users, with each getting their own email and applications. It’s something that has long been requested from Android (and iOS for that matter) and which individual vendors, such as Barnes & Noble with the customized NOOK HD/HD+, had begun to cook up independently.

Android 4.2 will also include an updated panorama mode in the camera, supporting horizontal and vertical panning, a feature that will likely look particularly good on the new Samsung tablet. That slate, which we’ve heard whispers of for some time now, is expected to use a 2560 x 1600 display, and is currently codenamed “Manta” though may well launch as the Nexus 10 so as to fit in with existing nomenclature.

Finally, the video also confirms two new versions of the Nexus 7, including the well-leaked 32GB model, and version with 3G HSPA+ integrated for getting online on the move. It’s unclear at this stage whether Google will attempt to do anything special with data pricing for the 3G tablet.

SlashGear will be with Google on October 29 to bring back all the details.

XDA-University aims to be the go-to place for all your Android development needs

Granted the internet is filled with articles and tutorials on how to flash custom ROMs onto your Android phone, how to root it, how to unlock its bootloader, how to create apps and etc., unfortunately this information is scattered which means that you might have to wade through many websites before stumbling across a method or tutorial that makes sense to you and is applicable to your situation. If you’ve ever hacked your Android device before, then website XDA Developers and their forums is probably one that is known to you. Well the good news is that the folks at XDA Developers have decided that all this information should be centralized and have since launched a website called XDA-University.

As the name implies, this website will be a place where Android users can visit if they want to learn things like developing for their phones, rooting, flashing, etc. As expected the information will be crowd sourced, so in a way you could think of it like the Wikipedia for Android. It seems that there will even be a book available (downloadable as PDF) which will delve into the nitty gritty of Android development. If this sounds like something you might be interested in, pop on over to the XDA-University website and leave your email where you will be notified once the website goes live.

LG Optimus G gets rooted before it even hits the shelves

If you were planning on picking up the LG Optimus G on Sprint’s network, which should be available for pre-order 1st of November and should arrive 11th November, you might be interested to learn that a root method has already been discovered for the handset. This is thanks to Jerry Hildenbrand over at Android Central who decided to try rooting the handset after their review of it. Apparently the method used to root the Sprint version of the Optimus G is based on the Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean adb exploit discovered by XDA forum member, Bin4ry.

For those wondering about the significance of this, well what this means is that for those who aren’t satisfied with stock Android or the UI that manufacturers ship with their phones, gaining root access is bring the user one step closer to flashing custom ROMs and installing tweaks that might require a higher level of access. Either way if you’d like to bookmark the instructions, head on over to the Android Central forums for the details, and in the meantime you can always check out our review of the LG Optimus G and decide if this is the phone for you.

iMac shipping times slipped for some European stores, possible refresh on its way?

Word on the street has it that Apple could be introducing an iMac refresh at its event on the 23rd of October (alongside the iPad mini and refreshed Mac minis and possibly the 13” Retina MacBook Pro). While that remains to be seen, there are reports that the shipping time for iMacs have started to slip in some of Apple’s European retail stores. Popping on over to a German or UK store will see iMac shipping times now set at an estimate of 1-3 days. This is a bit odd considering that the current iMac isn’t exactly in high demand and that its already a little over a year old. This could imply that we might be seeing the new iMacs start to arrive soon. However it should be noted that this delay seems to be isolated to a few European Apple stores and isn’t widespread, so there is a chance that we could be getting excited for nothing and that this is merely a one off incident. In any case we guess all will be revealed tomorrow, so do check back with us on the 23rd for the details!

PS3 software v4.30 coming October 23: Folding@home folds

Sony has announced that a new system update is coming to PS3 owners on October 23. The update will bring the PS3 console to version 4.30 and will make a number changes to the system. One of the key changes in the update is a modification of how Trophies are displayed on the PS3.

Sony says that the trophy collection will now reside under the PlayStation Network on the XMB. One significant change for gamers who own both the PS3, and the PlayStation Vita is that Vita trophies are now displayed on your PS3. Players will be able see their trophy level and progress towards the next level while viewing the trophy collection as well.

Sony has also announced that by the beginning of November, it will retire services currently available through the Life with PlayStation application. That means that the Life with PlayStation application will be offered new users starting with the 4.30 update. The discontinuation of the life with PlayStation application means that Sony has ended its participation with Stanford University’s Folding@home project.

Sony says that more than 15 million users have participated in the program since the start of the PS3 in 2007. PS3 users donated more than 100 million computation hours to the Folding@home project since it launched. The project used various computer and game console devices and project aimed at understanding protein folding, misfolding, and studying the causes of all sorts of diseases, including various cancers and Alzheimer’s.
