Blackberry 10-styled lockscreen now available as a mod for Android

When RIM announced Blackberry 10, there were some changes made to the UI which made the interface more modern, a move which we’re assuming was made to appeal to current smartphone owners of Android or iOS devices. One of them was the Blackberry 10’s lockscreen and if you’ve seen the Blackberry 10 lockscreen before and thought that it was a pretty cool feature, you might be interested to learn that a mod for Jelly Bean or Ice Cream Sandwich based Android devices is available for download that will emulate the lockscreen style of Blackberry 10. Basically it’s a lockscreen that unlocks the phone by swiping the finger up, in which a curtain-like effect slowly reveals the home screen behind. Granted it’s merely an aesthetic thing, but we guess that there are features from other platforms that some would love to have on their Android devices. The mod can be found in the source link below at the XDA forums, so pop on over for the download and additional details!

Nexus 4 could run into launch problems in South Korea due to carriers request for customization

We’re sure that there are many eager customers out there who can’t wait to get their hands on Google’s Nexus 4, although oddly enough it has been reported that in South Korea, the Nexus 4’s launch could be faced with some issues. Apparently South Korean carriers are requesting some features to be included in the Nexus 4 which Google was reportedly against. Given that this is Google’s flagship handset, and the fact that this is a Nexus device, we’re not surprised over the amount of control that Google is trying to exert over it to ensure a similar user experience across the board.

It was suggested that LTE is one of the features that South Korean carriers have requested, a feature lacking in the Nexus 4 which was explained by Andy Rubin. If this is indeed the case, it has also been suggested that the Nexus 4 could face some difficulty in launching in Japan as Japanese carriers are reportedly known for requesting carrier-specific customization. Either way with the handset planned for a release in November, we guess there’s still some time for Google and LG to sort this out, so until then we guess we shouldn’t get too worried.

The Nexus 4 will be an exclusive to O2 in the UK

Android 4.2 is still called Jelly Bean

With the official announcement of Google’s Nexus 4 Android handset, we’re sure that there are many Android fans out there who are eager to get their hands on Google’s latest and arguably most powerful Nexus handset to date, which also comes with an untouched version of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean that we’re sure some users can appreciate. That being said, it looks like for Nexus 4 hopefuls in the UK, it has been reported that UK carrier, O2, will be getting an exclusive on the handset which means that come next month, subscribers of O2’s network can expect to be able to get their hands on it. This is despite the Carphone Warehouse prematurely listing the device as available for pre-order, which also revealed Vodafone as a possible carrier in the process. Obviously that has changed, although we’re not sure how long this exclusivity will last. O2 has also confirmed to Pocket-lint that LG will be giving away free 100 LG TVs to the first 100 customers that buy the handset, although to be fair given the specs alone, a free TV is just icing on the cake.

Kickstarter officially launches in the UK

We haven’t heard much from the folks at Kickstarter over the last month. In fact, the last time Kickstarter mentioned its coming UK launch on its official blog was back on October 10. On that day, Kickstarter announced that it would be launching in the UK on October 31.

Today being October 31, the launch is now official, and you can start your own project in the UK. That is assuming you meet the criteria for starting a UK project. There are a few caveats to start the UK project, mostly centering on the fact that you have to live in the UK. Kickstarter requires that you be a permanent UK resident creating a project in your own name or on behalf of the legal entity with a Companies House Number.

People starting a project for the UK also need to have a UK address, and UK bank account, and a government issued ID. You will also need a major UK credit or debit card and have to be at least 18 years old. As Kickstarter mentioned before, there is no specific UK page. Projects from the US and the UK will be intermingled, and people from either country can back projects in the US or the UK.

All projects in the UK will be listed in pounds sterling while people pledging from outside the UK will see the approximate conversion rate to US dollars before they make their pledge. It’s unclear at this point if you will be able to see only projects in the US or UK if you’re not interested in funding projects outside your home country.

Nexus 7 sales clocking in at close to a million per month

DNP It's official, Nexus 7 sales clocking in at close to a million a month

While it was pretty clear that ASUS’ Google-partnered Nexus 7 contributed heavily to the Taiwanese maker’s healthy Q3 results, there was no official confirmation on its exact sales figures so far. ASUS CFO David Chang has now come clean and told the WSJ that the 7-incher is close to touching the one million per month mark, just about double the rate of sales at its launch. While this number is a fraction of the iPad’s sales (14 million in the last quarter alone), it could well go up due to the recent price drop and the addition of new 32GB models to the portfolio. On the flip side, the Nexus 7 is sure to face heat from close rivals, the Kindle Fire HD and the 7.9-inch Apple iPad mini, while the mega-spec Nexus 10 will also entice some buyers away from ASUS’ reach.

Mopar and SRT debut custom Dodge Challenger at Sema

Mopar and SRT have unveiled a very cool customized 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 at SEMA. The car was customized for comedian Jeff Dunham and looks like a muscle car straight out of the 60s. The car was dubbed Project UltraViolet and is far from stock.

The engine under the hood of the customized car is a new Mopar 426 crate engine producing 550 hp and 490 pound-foot of torque. The car was customized with help from the crew at Palmer’s Customs of Camarillo, California. The car also features a Mopar T/A good with a functional air scoop to feed more air to the massive engine underneath.

The Mopar 426 crate engine was custom tune by Arrington Engines. The company has Mopar-authorized tools and software to create performance calibrations for select 2011 through 2013 Chrysler vehicles. On the outside of the car, the custom Challenger is lowered by 1 inch and rides on 22-inch HRE performance wheels.

The rear of the car was widened by 4 inches allowing for dramatic wheel arches and larger rubber. The car also has numerous custom parts including a new rear diffuser, dive-planes, a new front splitter, new rocker panels, new lower-rear spoilers, a new deck lid spoiler, and custom aluminum side sills with side exhaust. Need for Speed: Most Wanted makes its way into the Google Play store

If you love playing racing games, then the Need for Speed franchise is probably one that is familiar to you. Well the good news is that if you own an Android device, Need for Speed: Most Wanted is now available for purchase via the Google Play store. It will set you back a cool $7 which we guess is more expensive compared to other games that are available, but given that graphics and the gameplay that one can expect from the NFS franchise, plus the fact that it can be played on your mobile device while on the go, perhaps the $7 could be justifiable. If you’re interested pop on over to the Google Play store for the download or the screenshots – alternatively you can check out the live action trailer in the video above.
