Star Wars Razer Blade gaming laptop makes a splash, is truly unique

These days, carrying a gaming laptop around is not good enough, there is also the status that one wants to show off to the rest of the world. Even with copious amounts of money, you will be unable to pick up the Star Wars Razer Blade gaming laptop which is said to be worth more than a whopping $15,000, simply because this particular gaming laptop is literally one-of-a-kind, being made available to the winner in a sweepstakes that will see the lucky person walk away with this custom-designed Star Wars: The Old Republic Razer Blade gaming laptop. Of course, I suppose one of the more foolhardy millionaires who desperately wants one without leaving fate to chance might just attempt to pry the Star Wars Razer Blade gaming laptop from the sweepstakes winner by throwing a wad of cash in his or her direction, but that’s another story for a different day.

Robert ‘RazerGuy’ Krakoff, president of Razer USA, said, “Star Wars provides the benchmark by which all entertainment media is measured, and the Razer Blade is the standard for true portability, power and innovation in PC gaming. The opportunity to work with LucasArts and BioWare on this fun project is a testament to our common love of great entertainment and ensuring the best possible experience for fans.”

The Razer Blade maintains its insanely thin 0.88” profile despite carrying a 17.3” display that will certainly capture the attention of your eyes whenever you game with it. When merged with an ultra-slim power supply, the entire shebang tips the scales at just 6.46 pounds, now how about that? This is said to be less than 50% that of other gaming laptops in the market, automatically placing it on a pedestal as the lowest profile, lightest gaming laptop of its class. All that power without compromising on style and form factor? It certainly can be said to be a pint-sized killer, just like Master Yoda.

Sporting an SSD (solid-state drive) inside that delivers data up to three times faster than traditional hard drives, the Razer Blade will be powered by the latest Intel Core i7 processor and NVIDIA’s GeForce graphics processor for blistering performance even at high quality resolutions. Not only that, there will be the inclusion of Razer’s multi-award-winning Switchblade UI that integrates a LCD display/multi-touch panel and 10 dynamic adaptive tactile keys, letting you have full control of commands and functions within your fingertips. Feeling lucky?

New scientific theory suggests the Moon was once part of the Earth

Scientists have been trying to determine for a long time exactly how the Earth came to have the moon. Many scientists have been studying how the planet was gifted with its satellite because the Earth and Moon have a similar composition and chemistry. A new scientific paper was published Wednesday that offers a new theory on how the moon was created.

According to the scientists, the Earth was spinning much faster when the moon was formed, and a day would’ve lasted only 2 to 3 hours. The scientists believe with the earth spinning so quickly that an impact with another large celestial body could’ve launched enough Earth material into space to form the moon. The theory comes from scientists Sarah Stewart and Matija Cuk.

New theory suggests that the Earth later reached the current rate of rotation due to gravitational interaction between the Earth’s orbit around the sun and the moon’s orbit around the Earth. The scientists also note that the current leading theory on how the moon was made suggests that the moon is made up from material remaining after some sort of giant body that struck the earth.

Stuart is a Harvard professor of earth and planetary sciences. Cuk is an astronomer and investigator with the SETI Institute. The scientists support their theory by pointing out that modern studies of planet formation show that the Earth grew due to a series of massive impacts that made the planet spin at near its rotational stability limit of about two hours. The scientists believe the last massive impact formed the moon.

Corporations, Super PAC Donors Funded Republican National Convention In Tampa

WASHINGTON — The Republican National Convention in Tampa, where former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney accepted the presidential nomination of the Republican Party, was funded by a collection of corporations and mega-donors instrumental in funding super PACs and “dark money” non-profits to help put Romney in the White House.

The convention committee raised a total of $55 million for the four-day long proceedings, according to a report filed on Wednesday. Corporations accounted for the majority of that with $32.6 million in direct contributions. Wealthy individuals, including some of most well-known super PAC and “dark money” non-profit donors, contributed $13 million. In-kind contributions by corporations accounted for the other $10 million.

The top corporate donor was Marketing Solution Publications, a Florida-based business run by financier William Edwards, with $4 million in contributions. Of the more than $3 million given by AT&T half came from direct contributions. The American Petroleum Institute, the top lobby shop for the oil and gas industry, gave more than $2 million. Half of Microsoft’s $1.5 million came from direct contributions. Bank of America and Florida Power & Light each donated $1 million in direct contributions.

‘The Iran Job’ Mixes Basketball & Politics Into The Foundation For A Bridge To Iran

With the drumbeat of war coursing through American politics once again, a curious little documentary titled “The Iran Job” appears to provide a would-be path toward diplomacy.

By following Kevin Sheppard, an American basketball player, to Iran’s Super League, we are exposed not only to Sheppard’s own inimitable curiosity but also to an Iranian public that is bursting with love for America. Sheppard is black and extremely tall, two features which prompt endearingly earnest reactions from the locals (“I love black people!” shouts one bazaar shop owner).

But the film is more than a string of cute cross-cultural anecdotes. The documentary was shot in 2009, the year President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was reelected amid mass suspicions of fraud. Protests spread throughout the country and were met with brutal force, particularly in Tehran. Sheppard, his now-close Iranian friends (including Elaheh, a charming woman who at one point seems to fall for the disarming basketballer) and the theater audience witness the birth of the Green Movement.

The Nintendo Wii U: Made For Kids, By Kids

Foxconn workers at a rally in Guangdong province, China

Foxconn admitted this week to hiring underage interns at its Yantai plant in China. Many assumed the Yantai plant has some association to the production of Apple products, but in reality Nintendo’s Wii U gaming console is undergoing testing there.

As many as 56 kids were working at the plant, some as young as 14; Chinese law maintains that workers must be at least 16. It’s ironic, in a really sad way.

To that point, Nintendo has issued a statement on the matter:

Nintendo is in communication with Foxconn and is investigating the matter. We take our responsibilities as a global company very seriously and are committed to an ethical policy on sourcing, manufacture and labor. In order to ensure the continued fulfillment of our social responsibility throughout our supply chain, we established the Nintendo CSR Procurement Guidelines in July 2008. We require that all production partners, including Foxconn, comply with these Guidelines, which are based on relevant laws, international standards and guidelines. If we were to find that any of our production partners did not meet our guidelines, we would require them to modify their practices according to Nintendo’s policy. For more information about Nintendo’s Corporate Social Responsibility report, please visit http://www.nintendo.co.jp/csr/en/index.html.

Foxconn has taken measures to rectify the situation, sending the underage interns home and promising to fire anyone responsible for the hire of interns under 16.

Foxconn has been under some serious scrutiny lately, constantly under the watchful eye of human activists groups after a series of suicides in the past few years and multiple factory fires. In fact, Foxconn inadvertently came up in the second presidential debate when CNN’s Candy Crowley asked the candidates why iPhones, iPads, and Macs can’t be manufactured in the U.S.

Trampoline Bridge Across The Seine Proposed For Paris (PHOTOS)

Until now, bridges have been strictly utilitarian structures — built for easy crossings of rivers, gorges and the like. However, a French architecture firm is trying to put the fun back in crossing a river with a proposed trampoline bridge to span the Seine.

The proposal is part of a contemporary bridge design competition sponsored by ArchTriumph, CNet reports. It would be constructed from giant PVC rings inflated with more than 130,000 cubic feet of air. Across those, stretching nearly 100 feet across, would be mesh trampolines.

It appears to us that Paris has the bridges and passages necessary for the flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic across its waterways,” said architecture firm AZC on its website. “Our intention is to invite its visitors and inhabitants to engage on a newer and more playful path across this same water.”
