Yeti-Like 32GB Nexus 7 Could Join Us As Soon As October 18

nexusae0_wm_glam_solo_thumb

The officers at AndroidPolice have spotted a 32GB Nexus 7, Google and Asus’ addicting mini-tablet, for $249 on the Staples website. The new model, which many believe should have been launched with the first batch of 8- and 16GB slates, should sell for less than the 16GB model.

Interestingly, because of the pricing, the 32GB could replace the 16GB entirely although I personally find the 8GB that I have to be the unfortunate runt of the litter with too little space for anything interesting.

AndroidPolice is suggesting that the October 18th launch is probably not going to happen but, like the wise old owl once said of a Tootsie Pop, the world may never know.

Nissan dreams of accident free cars

Being in an accident is no fun at all, but until now, drivers play the most important role in ensuring that vehicle accidents are avoided. How about a car that will avoid accidents even when the driver is lax and paid more attention to the smartphone in his or her hand instead of having both eyes concentrating fully on the road? Nissan Motor of Japan has set their ultimate goal of rolling out cars that will achieve a “virtually zero“ accident rate. Of course, heavy duty technology is enlisted to achieve this lofty ideal, including a steering wheel that remains steady without shaking or vibrating even while driving on a bumpy road, or how about a vehicle that calculates the different factors before making that swerve on its own in order to avoid the sudden situation of a pedestrian jumping in front of your car?

This next generation steering wheel will be introduced in their upscale Infiniti-brand vehicles from next year onwards, where this steering wheel controls tire angles through the transmission of steering inputs via electronic signals in lieu of a mechanical system, which is not too far off from the “fly-by-wire” technology that the modern aircraft flight control system uses.

Other crash-avoidance technology that Nissan is working on should be able to be made available to the masses on a commercial level within the coming half decade. We certainly look on impatiently and hope that some of these features will appear in their Skyline range first!

iPad mini to release on November 2 claims retailer

Apple‘s upcoming event on October 23 could be the moment where we’ll finally see the iPad mini become official. It’s less than a week away, and if the latest rumors are true, we could have the device in our hands in as little as two weeks or so. According to a source close to a major UK retailer, the iPad mini will release on November 2.

It seems that the source has a reputable track record for information relating to rumored Apple products, since it also leaked the release date of the iPhone 5 last month (September 22) and got it right, which means that November 2 may actually be the day when we’ll see the iPad mini hit Apple store shelves.

On launch day, it’s said the iPad mini will be available on the US and the UK, as well as possibly a small handful of other countries. The device will also be available for pre-order during the same week that it’s announced. The source says its not 100% sure about the exact pre-order date, but October 26 seems to be a viable option.

The iPad mini is said to have a 7.85-inch screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio. There will also probably be several different models to choose from with different capacities that could up to 64GB. An entry-level iPad mini is said to cost just $250, with higher-tier models costing as much as $800.

Is Facebook Creating A False Self In Your Children?

In my last post, I described how new media is causing the externalization of children’s self-identity. The result of this externalization may be your children developing a false self, in which they internalize the messages of popular culture and media, such as valuing themselves based on their wealth, appearance, or popularity, and those messages become the foundation of their self-identity.

LGBT History Month Icon Of The Day: Houston Mayor Annise Parker

Annise Parker’s win in her 2009 mayoral race makes Houston the largest city in the U.S. to have a gay mayor, even though the red state has a history of antigay views.

Parker, 56, emphasized her experience of managing the city’s budget rather than focusing on her sexuality. But Parker has always been an LGBT activist and was one of the founding members of Rice University’s gay alliance.

The Texas pioneer has three adopted children together with her partner, Kathy Hubbard. Before President Obama’s announcement that he supports same-sex marriage, Parker was critical of him, saying Obama “needed to evolve.”
