I Went To A Tantric Sex Class And All I Got Was Awkward Dry-Humping

“We aren’t gonna, like, simulate sex, are we?” My friend Jeff asked me.

“Don’t be gross. Obviously, I wouldn’t invite you to something like that,” I responded, disturbed.

Cut to a week later and I’m grinding on Jeff’s boner in a room full of strangers being told to “breathe hard” by a woman with a microphone.

The Dalai Lama In Medford (PHOTOS)

On a normal day, if you walk along the triple deckers lining Washington Street and Magoun Avenue not much will stand out from any other Medford neighborhood.

Tuesday was no normal day.

There were decorated dancers in the street, a market set up on Washington Street and a giant white tent stretched across four backyards. All for a visit from the Dalai Lama.

SlashGear Morning Wrap-up: October 17th, 2012

This morning we’re jumping in with Jelly Beans on the Samsung Galaxy S III and we’ve got a fabulous Motorola DROID RAZR HD Review for you to have a peek at – on sale this Friday, mind you! The Presidential debate last night turned to Apple, believe it or not. If you’re a fan of Google’s data centers, you’ll want to have a peek at this virtual tour of the facilities.

The Microsoft Surface has had one whole heck of a lot of release details spilled, all of them from Microsoft – including a facilities tour as well. If you’re a space-loving scientist, you’ll be freaking out over the fact that Pluto’s moons are posing a risk to spacecraft – and are not considered just “fellow moons.”

You iPhone owners will be glad to know that Romo is back on kickstarter – with no Android support this time around. 007 Legends will soon be released to your living room from Activision. Blue Dash 3.5 is a smartphone running Android with a $99.99 price tag. Apple has acquired Particle, a web application consulting firm.

HTC has unveiled the HTC J Butterfly with a massive 5-inch display that’s exceedingly tall. The GoPro HERO3 Black and Silver edition cameras have been unveiled with lovely buttons. There’s a brand new HTC One S Special Edition out there in the universe with a massive internal capacity of 64GB and a lovely white body on the outside – good luck finding it in the USA.

Sony Xperia VL brings dash of toughened-up LTE to Japan

Sony Xperia VL brings dash of extrathin LTE to Japan

We were intrigued by Sony’s Xperia V back at IFA, but deals with specific carriers haven’t been very forthcoming. Japan’s KDDI is covering that gap by pledging to carry Sony’s mid-size Android 4.0 phone as the Xperia VL. Everything we know and (mostly) love about the dust- and water-resistant phone is intact, including that thin sensor-on-lens 720p display, the 13-megapixel camera, the 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4, NFC and LTE-based 4G. The one question remaining is a definitive release date: Sony will only promise an Xperia VL launch before the end of the year, although there’s talk at Impress Watch of a release on November 2nd for ¥30,000 ($381) after carrier discounts. Let’s hope for the company’s sake that other carriers sign up for the V and VL sooner rather than later.

WSJ: Foxconn Exec Says iPhone 5 Is the ‘Most Difficult Device’ It Ever Made [Apple]

Apple touted the fit, finish, and technical wizardry required to produce the iPhone 5. Apparently that wasn’t just marketing fluff. According to an unnamed Foxconn exec who spoke to the Wall Street Journal, it really is a pain in the ass to manufacture. More »

iPad mini 4:3 display unit leaks

We’re under a week away from Apple’s next big event on October 23, where the company could be announcing the iPad mini, as well as possibly a 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro and new Mac minis. In the meantime, ETrade Supply has posted some photos that show what is said to be the iPad mini’s display unit that has the same 4:3 aspect ratio as the 10-inch iPad.

The display unit in question measures approximately 6.4 inches (162 mm) x 4.9 inches (124 mm), which, according to the Pythagorean theorem, goes right along with the well-rumored 7.85-inch screen size of the iPad mini if you take the bezel of the display unit itself into account — the math has it coming out to just over 8 inches in diagonal length.

Text on the back of the display unit mentions that the item was manufactured by LG, and text on the ribbon cable is said to be consistent with the labeling that’s normally found on genuine parts used in Apple products. A French source also posted photos showing what looks to be the iPad mini’s display in quality testing. However, they weren’t able to verify, but the display looks very similar to the one that ETrade Supply posted.

Both sources also had photos of the iPad mini’s battery, which don’t give us a lot of info and aren’t too revealing anyway — it’s just a battery after all. However, sources say the battery will be rated at 16.7Whr running at 3.72V. To compare, the iPhone 5 has a 5.45Whr, so the iPad mini’s battery is more than three times larger.

Visualized: Cubesat micro-orbiters slip into space to flash Earth in Morse code

Visualized Japan's wee Cubesat orbiters dribble out into space

Japan’s four-inch FITSAT-1 orbiters were released from Japan’s Kibo laboratory on the ISS last week to (literally) start their world tour, and astronauts aboard the station captured the wee satellites being dwarfed by giant solar arrays and our own blue rock on their way to orbit. Soon they’ll be writing “Hi this is Niwaka Japan” in Morse code using intense flashes of LED light, first to Japan and then across the globe, starting next month. To catch them floating away from the International Space Station’s cozy confines, hit the source.
