The LaGrange L1 Kickstarter project lets you motorize your skateboard

While electric skateboards do exist, they are limited in the sense of how deep you can customize them. Well the good news for skateboarders looking to soup up their skateboards is this Kickstarter project for a device called the LaGrange L1. This is a project started by the RedRock Boardshop and according to its Kickstarter description, the LaGrange L1 will allow skateboarders to motorize just about any deck or wheels that you can think of. This basically results in a skateboard that is pretty much customized to your specifications, and then motorized with the LaGrange L1.

According to the people who came up with this concept, they have already tested the system out with a 200 pound rider and claim that they are able to achieve 10-15 miles of range with speeds of 20+mph. If you think that this is a cool idea, you might be interested to learn that a pledge of $300 will get you the bare essentials, such as the drivetrain, the LaGrange L1 truck, and electronics bracket. The motor and other skate parts and electrical components will need to be sourced by yourself. For those willing to drop $950, you get pretty much everything, and all you’ll need is a deck, front truck, wheels and a backpack to hold the battery. A pretty expensive DIY piece of gear that we’re not sure is for everyone, but if you’re interested pop on over to its Kickstarter page for the details.

Romo smartphone robot back on Kickstarter

Last fall, a little tank treaded robot turned up on Kickstarter called the Romo from Romotive. The Romo used your iPhone as its brain to control the tank base to allow the little bot to perform all sorts of tasks. The team behind the little robot is back on Kickstarter right now looking for more funding.

The developers want the additional funding to help make the robot smarter, faster, and easier to use. The team says that they have redesigned the robot from the circuit board up and then set up production at a manufacturer in China. The developers are now trying to raise money to improve the software and are seeking another $100,000.

This next-generation Romo robot is described as “almost” everything a personal robot should be. The developers say that the new bot is cute, responsive, and really fast. The developers want to use the money raised to develop software to allow Romo to perform two-way telepresence, computer vision, autonomous navigation, and facial recognition.

The team says that with funding the new features will be released as updated apps. The team also promises to wrap a SDK around each function allowing developers to create their own apps to share. A pledge of $150 will get you one of the first next-generation Romo robots. So far, the team has raised $42,931 out of its goal of $100,000. The team has 28 days to go so it’s very likely they’ll get the money they need.

Activision releases 007 Legends video game

Activision has announced that its new video game 007 Legends is available to purchase. This is the latest video game in Activision’s James Bond franchise, and the game sounds very cool. As the name implies, the game is based on five different classic Bond movies.

The Bond films that the video game is based on include Goldfinger, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Moonraker, License to Kill, Die Another Day, and the upcoming film Skyfall. The box image for the video game shows my favorite Bond villain of all time, Jaws. I hope Jaws is a playable character and figures heavily into the game.

The video game will launch across Europe on October 19 and on in Australia on October 31. From the description, it sounds as if the missions go along with each of the classic films. A sixth mission is unlockable that is based on the new Skyfall movie due out next month.

The Skyfall mission is offered as download content and its availability is timed to coincide with the movie. PlayStation Network subscribers will be able to access the Skyfall mission on November 9, and the mission will hit Xbox Live on November 20. Each of the six missions the game offers multiple levels and allows players to use spy gadgets, different weapons, vehicles, and more. The game will be offered for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, and Windows computers. The Windows version will be available on Steam on November 2.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 launch trailer revealed, looks promising

As many gamers are probably aware by now, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is scheduled for a release on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and the PC come 13th of November, while a Wii U release has been pegged for the 18th. For those who can’t wait to get their hands on the game, Activision has released the launch trailer for the game which  we hope will appease gamers for now – either that or whet their appetite for the game which will be launched less than a month from now. The trailer looks pretty impressive and for those who are super concerned regarding spoilers, perhaps this is a trailer you might want to pass on as there are several scenes in there that appear to have been taken from the campaign. For those who aren’t too fussed, check it out in the video above and let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Isis mobile wallet to debut in Google Play come 22nd of October according to leaked T-Mobile screenshot

When it comes to the mobile wallet scene, two particular services have been talked about – Isis, the joint effort between AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon, and Google Wallet, a collaboration between Google and Sprint. Well the good news for T-Mobile customers looking to get in on the mobile wallet scene is that thanks to TmoNews, they have managed to get their hands on what appears to be a screenshot of T-Mobile’s internal system that reveals that come 22nd of October, Isis will be debuting their mobile wallet app in the Google Play store.

For those unfamiliar, Isis is a mobile wallet feature that allows companies like Chase, Capital One, and Barclaycard to include their credit, debit and prepaid cards into the mobile wallet, which ultimately lets users pay for items using their mobile device. Of course there is a catch in the sense that users will need an Isis SIM card which is only available at retail stores in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Austin, Texas. Secondly not all devices are supported and at the moment, supported devices include the Samsung Galaxy S3, the Galaxy S2 and the Relay 4G. Either way we expect more support to be added in the future, so we just have to play the waiting game for now.

File sharers buy 30% more music than non-file sharers according to survey

As far as music piracy is concerned, the common perception is that people who download don’t buy music. After all, if you can get it for free, why fork out money for essentially the same product, right? Well as it turns out in a public policy study recently conducted by the American Assembly, it seems that they have arrived at the conclusion that on average, file-sharers actually buy 30% more music than their non-file sharing counterparts which we guess pretty much invalidates quite a few arguments against file sharing. This survey was conducted based on thousands on in-depth phone interviews held all over the US, and it seems that while online piracy could be thought of as a problem for record labels, the survey has also revealed that offline copying of music takes place more often compared to online music piracy.

While the survey could be thought of as rather comprehensive, it is far from conclusive as there is probably still room for a margin of error, but it is still a pretty interesting revelation nonetheless. For those interested, you can head on over to the American Assembly website for a more in-depth look into the survey, but in the meantime what do you guys make of this? Are you, or do you know of someone who actually downloads music sometimes illegally, but only for sampling before buying the legal copy?

A123 Systems runs out of cash and sells assets for $125 million

You may not recognize the name A123 Systems. The company is a manufacturer and designer of batteries and battery packs for the electric vehicle market. A123 Systems may be best known as the battery manufacturer for the Fisker Karma hybrid.

A123 spent over $50 million to replace the battery packs in 640 Karma vehicles when Fisker issued a recall. After shelling out that money, A123 began looking for additional funding to continue operations. That additional funding never materialized and this week the company missed significant payments to its debtors and began talking about bankruptcy or possible restructuring.

A123 Systems has now announced that it has entered into an asset purchase agreement with a company called Johnson Controls. Johnson Controls will purchase the assets of A123′s automotive business arm, including all of the automotive technology, products, and customer contracts. The purchase agreement also includes A123 facilities in the Livonia and Romulus, Michigan.

The transaction is valued at $125 million. In addition to gaining the assets and facilities already mentioned, Johnson Controls also gets the cathode powder manufacturing facilities in China and A123′s equity interest in Shanghai Advanced Traction Battery Systems. Johnson Controls also intends to license A123 to use certain technologies for its grid, commercial, and government businesses. A123 and all of its US subsidiaries filed voluntary petitions for reorganization under Chapter 11 yesterday to facilitate the transaction.

Blu Dash 3.5 smartphone debuts at $99.99

Blu Products has announced a new Android-powered smart phone called the Blu Dash 3.5. The new smartphone is offered as an unlocked device supporting dual SIM cards and an impressively low price. Typically, an unlocked smartphone that supports multiple SIM cards will cost hundreds of dollars.

The Blu Dash 3.5 is available right now in the US and in Latin America at an MSRP of $99.99. A version of the phone supporting only one SIM card is expected to launch with mobile operators in Latin America this November. Presumably, it will be even cheaper. The smartphone comes in white or black colors and ships with a 4 GB micro SD card for storage.

Blu offers various other door colors for the back of the phone allowing users to customize the look, including pink, blue, green, and yellow colors. The phone features a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 320 x 480. The phone supports GSM quad band, EDGE, and 3G HSDPA connectivity. The operating system for the smartphone is Android 2.3. The phone has a two-megapixel rear camera and uses a QUALCOMM 1 GHz processor.

On top of the phone is a 3.5 mm audio jack and the device can be used as an MP3 player. The phone also features integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0. This is certainly a basic smart phone, but for users on a budget who don’t want a contract and need a device that will use multiple SIM cards, the Dash 3.5 is impressively affordable.
