NEW YORK — Two days after New York City closed its subway system in the face of Hurricane Sandy, swarms of New Yorkers made their way over the Queensboro and Williamsburg bridges by foot and by bike — forms of transportation that may become more familiar as the Metropolitan Transit Authority and others indicated Tuesday that it may take weeks to restore the MTA for its roughly 8.7 million daily riders.
In a press conference Tuesday morning Mayor Michael Bloomberg did not attempt a firm estimate of when New Yorkers may be able to resume their normal commuting routines, describing the challenges the city faces in the coming days as “enormous.” By Tuesday evening, Bloomberg told reporters that the city’s subway system would remain closed for at least, “four to five days.”
“The work is well under way,” Bloomberg said Tuesday morning. “East River bridges have already been reopened. The work of getting our mass transit grid and our power grid restored, however, is going to take more time and a lot of patience.”

Yesterday a new trailer for the video game Call of Duty: Black Ops II aired during Monday Night Football. If you missed that commercial during a potty break or a run to the refrigerator for frosty beverage, the surprise trailer is now available on YouTube. The trailer is packed with cameos from famous actors and little-known web personalities.
The surprise trailer was directed by Guy Ritchie, and the biggest actor in the trailer is Robert Downey Jr., who happens to be flying a jet in the trailer. Other celebrities in the trailer include a comedic actor from France named Omar Sy, FPSRussia, and iJustine. I think this might be my favorite trailer yet for the game.
The trailer shows different players each thinking they have the element of surprise and are about to kill an enemy. However, just as each of the characters is set to take their shot, someone else surprises them and the hunter becomes the hunted. Check out the new trailer below:
10,000 miles will not stop Richard Van As of South Africa and Ivan Owen of Washington State from building an inexpensive prosthetic finger prototype that could one day help millions of amputees. Richard lost his arm last year in an accident. In spite of his condition, he did not lose hope and decided to search for prosthetics online that could help him. After a seemingly futile search, he eventually found one of Ivan’s mechanical hand prop videos on YouTube. (more…)

An anti-Obama flier invoking Hurricane Sandy was reportedly distributed by conservative activist Grover Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform, the Houston Chronicle reported Tuesday.
The advertisement, which appeared on northern Virginia doorsteps starting Tuesday, features a photo of President Obama superimposed over a storm image.
“We’ve seen storms in Virginia, but none like this …” reads the flier. “Barack Obama’s policies have added $4 billion in debt each day he’s been in office. Americans can’t afford this debt.”

MIAMI — LeBron James held his index finger aloft, then turned and took a walk nine years in the making.
A few moments later, a championship ring – finally – was his.
DETROIT — Police have stopped a number of cars that appear to be involved in “suspicious activities” along some southeast Michigan roads and freeways in an effort to find a man shooting randomly at passing vehicles.
Officers are looking for anything out of the norm as part of a four-county investigation into two dozen vehicle shootings, said Lt. Mike Shaw, of the state police post in Brighton. Shootings have been reported in Oakland, Livingston, Ingham and Shiawassee counties.
