Life Fitness announces new range of Android compatible exercise machines

Depending on which gym you go, there is a chance that the more expensive and high-class gyms offer entertainment options to their clients. This could come in the form of several large screen televisions spread across the gym, or there could even be mini televisions hooked up to various cardio equipment. While that’s well and good, we’re sure that there are some out there who would rather turn to their smartphones or tablets for entertainment and exercise equipment manufacturer, Life Fitness, has announced a new range of exercise equipment that will be compatible with Android devices. Apple reportedly hires Amazon’s search exec William Stasior to work on Siri

According to a recent report by AllThingsD, it was suggested that Apple could be looking to add William Stasior to their ranks. Hailing from Amazon, Staisior was part of Amazon’s A9 unit which was the website’s search and search advertising unit, and his role in Apple has supposedly something to do with Siri, which we assume he will be applying his skills to improve Siri further. Stasior also worked at Alta Vista and given his expertise with regards to search, some have speculated that his addition to Apple could also lead to an improvement of product searches within Apple’s own ecosystem. This is expected to allow users to find relevant products such as books, songs, and apps more easily.

Given that Siri was designed not just to help users perform tasks such as composing messages, but to help users perform searches as well, we guess Stasior’s addition to the Siri division at Apple does make some sense. In any case assuming this is true, we guess Apple users can start looking forward to more accurate and relevant search results from Siri and the Apple ecosystem in the future.

No plans for Instagram for Blackberry 10 according to Facebook

Instagram is no doubt a popular app used to take photos on both iOS and Android, and we can still remember the day when it finally arrived on Android and the big deal that everyone made about it. Well it seems that the fuss people made about the Android version might not happen for Blackberry 10 as Facebook has announced (via VentureBeat) that they have no plans to release Instagram for Blackberry 10. As some of you guys are aware, Facebook bought Instagram awhile back and while Facebook is working on a native app for Blackberry 10, it seems that’s the extent of Facebook’s involvement with Blackberry 10.

Of course this does not mean that there won’t be Instagram for Blackberry 10 forever – there is a chance that Facebook could be feeling out the Blackberry 10 ecosystem first before deciding if it might be worth their while to port Instagram onto Blackberry 10. In any case Blackberry 10 is expected to launch in Q1 of 2013, so there’s still a few months for Facebook to change their minds. In the meantime it looks like would-be Blackberry 10 users will need to find an alternative way to capture and upload hipster-like photos.

Lincoln MKZ Hybrid EPA rated at 45 mpg combined

Luxury car buyers looking for a hybrid vehicle might want to check out the new 2013 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid. The EPA recently issued its official fuel efficiency numbers for the 2013 MKZ Hybrid rating the car for 45 mpg in the city, 45 mpg on the highway, and 45 mpg combined. Lincoln brags that its hybrid delivers five mpg better efficiency in the city and combined as the more expensive Lexus ES Hybrid.

Lincoln says that its hybrid delivers more miles per gallon than any other luxury vehicle in America. The MKZ Hybrid is a mid-size vehicle slotting into the luxury segment of the market. Lincoln also notes that its hybrid vehicle gets two mpg better fuel efficiency in the city and five mpg better efficiency on the highway than the smaller Lexus CT 200h.

Lincoln says that the hybrid version of the MKZ is available with all the same options that the non-hybrid version of the car can be fitted with. The company points out that not all hybrids are available with all features of non-hybrid versions of the car. Lincoln includes Sync with MyLincoln Touch in the standard options package.

That system has an eight-inch touchscreen, and the vehicle gets premium leather seats that are heated in the front, LED headlamps, 18-inch wheels, and Lincoln Drive Control. The Lincoln MKZ Hybrid will hit dealer showrooms later this year with pricing starting at $35,925.

Astronomers discover planet with four suns

A group of astronomers, including some volunteers has made a very interesting discovery of a new planet in a unique system. The new planet that was discovered is a gas giant about six times the size of the Earth. The planet itself isn’t as interesting as the fact that it orbits a unique star system.

The gas giant orbits a binary star system, and that binary star system has a second stellar pair of stars orbiting around them. That means the planet has four suns. The planet and its unique star system were discovered by volunteers using the Planethunters.org website and confirmed by a team of astronomers from the UK and the US. The planet and its four different stars were also observed using the Keck Observatory.

The planet is slightly less than 5000 light years away from the Earth and has been named PH1. The PH1 name is a hat tip to the Planethunters website. Astronomers say that binary stars aren’t uncommon in themselves. However, there are only a handful of known exoplanets orbiting binary pairs. To make this particular star system even rarer, none of the other known exoplanets have another pair of stars orbiting them.

Despite the fact that the gas giant has gravity from four different starts pulling on it, it remains a stable orbit. The volunteer astronomers who discovered the planet using Planethunters.org are Kian Jek of San Francisco and Robert Gagliano from Cottonwood, Arizona. The pair spotted changes in light caused by the planet passing in front of the parent stars. Once the volunteers discovered the dip in light using the website, the professional astronomers confirm the discovery using the Keck telescopes in Hawaii.

ASUS PadFone 2 to hit European and Asian markets before end of December (update: European prices)

ASUS announces PadFone 2 availability in Europe and Asia regions

At the PadFone 2 launch event in Taipei, ASUS let out some details on worldwide availability for its latest phone-and-tablet combo. A handful of countries in Europe and Asia will actually get to buy it before the end of December this year, including these: Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan (which we already know), Thailand and U.A.E. Don’t worry if you’re not on the list, as ASUS says more will be announced at a later date, so stay tuned.

Update: Jonney Shih just announced in Milan that for Europe, the PadFone 2 tablet bundle will be priced at €799 ($1,040) for the 32GB model, and €899 ($1,170) for the 64GB model. Without the tax, these figures aren’t too far off from their Taiwanese counterparts, but the subsidized prices, if any, will obviously be a lot more attractive than these.

Hyundai shows off Velocity concept car

Hyundai’s Veloster is one of the more interesting vehicles that the company makes. Typically, the company sticks to the economy cars or and less interesting people movers rather than sports cars. Hyundai has unveiled a concept car dubbed the Velocity that will be shown at the 2012 Sema Show that is based on the slick little Veloster.

The concept car was designed and developed through a joint effort between the Design and Engineering divisions of Hyundai America Technical Center in California. One of the most noticeable aspects of the concept car is the cool wheels with charcoal gray spokes and red behind the spokes. Those wheels are 19 x 9-inch HRE racing wheels shod with 275 wide tires.

The car is also fitted with a special custom lower body kit combined with front and rear brake cooling ducts. The vehicle also has a lift reducing rear diffuser and a large rear wing to help generate down force. The vehicle uses a 1.6-liter direct injected Veloster engine that has engine modifications performed by Cosworth.

Engine modifications include performance pistons, rods, a turbocharger, intercooler, intake manifold, fuel system, and custom engine management. The modified engine produces 400 HP and 350 pound-foot of torque. Hyundai also fitted the car with a special suspension system and brake modifications to make the car at home on the track or on the street.
