Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 for AT&T arrives at the FCC

We do know that AT&T will be offering the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Lumia 820 to the masses in due time, in conjunction with the release of the Windows Phone 8 platform, but before that is to happen, both handsets will still need to gain a collective nod of approval from the folks over at the FCC. It is nice to see that both brothers in arms have picked up approvals for the GSM versions, which means those rocking to AT&T as well as Canadian carriers will soon be able to hold one of these puppies in their hands.

It is rather interesting to note that the RM-820 model number is listed on the Lumia 920, as the distinctive curved form factor gives the game away, carrying with it 700MHz LTE in AT&T’s range as well as AWS-based LTE for both AT&T as well as its Canadian counterpart. As for the Lumia 820, it is identified as the RM-824. Now to just wait for Microsoft’s event that is happening later this October 29th where more, if not all, will be revealed.

Samsung UK confirms Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update for Galaxy S3

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is busy receiving the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, first in South Korea, followed by someone spotting it in Poland and earlier this morning, in Sweden. Well, Samsung UK indirectly confirmed on their Facebook page that the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update is headed for the Samsung Galaxy S3 later this month, although there was no further information on whether the firmware updates are for the operators or for the general version. Hopefully we will be able to grab hold of these updates in due time (for our friends living across the pond, that is), and as for folks living in the US, patience is the key here. Your official Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update should be coming really soon, so you might as well wait it out instead of being all frustrated and trading in your handset for something more fruity.

Android 4.2 ROM reveals Quick Settings menu

While we have absolutely no idea just what Google wants to call Android 4.2 (can you think of any dessert that starts with the letter “K”?), we do know one thing for sure – the next Android update will be Android 4.2 instead of making the jump over to Android 5.0. The thing is, folks over at Android Police managed to obtain an Android 4.2 ROM for themselves, and sharing some of the new changes that are in line would be a spanking new “Quick Settings” interface.

Needless to say, what you see above is far from the finished article, where an actual file from the Android 4.2 dump shows the above, which functions as a placeholder graphic for the moment, at least until the code is complete. A dual-downward-swipe gesture will allow one to access the Quick Settings interface. Chances are, this would mean a far easier way to access Wi-Fi, airplane mode, and the other device settings which are present in select Android user interfaces. We do look forward to an Android 4.2 release.

ASUS PadFone 2 unveiled in Taiwan, boasts quad-core CPU, LTE, NFC and lighter tablet (video)

ASUS PadFone 2 unveiled in Taiwan, packs quadcore chip, NFC and lighter tablet

Today’s no doubt a big day for ASUS: while chairman Jonney Shih is gearing up to introduce the PadFone 2 in Milan later today, we just saw CEO Jerry Shen wowing the crowd with the same phone-in-tablet combo back in Taipei. Just as the recent leaks have shown, ASUS’ surprisingly quick follow-up to the original PadFone is simply bigger and better in many ways, notably with a screen upgrade to 4.7-inch 720p Super IPS+ panel (with up to 550nits brightness thanks to Sharp’s IGZO technology), Qualcomm’s awesome quad-core APQ8064 SoC instead of its dual-core sibling, 13-megapixel f/2.4 BSI sensor from Sony, 1.2-megapixel front camera, and a much slimmer PadFone Station slate — partly because it no longer features a docking bay cover! New owners will be greeted by Android Ice Cream Sandwich, but ASUS promises a Jelly Bean upgrade soon. There’s much more than meets the eyes so read on to find out more.

MetroPCS shareholders sue to block T-Mobile merger

MetrosPCS shareholders have filed a lawsuit to block a merger with T-Mobile USA, claiming that the MetroPCS board is “serving its own financial interests.” The lawsuit is against T-Mobile and its parent company Deutsche Telekom in addition to MetroPCS’ board of directors and CEO. According to the current deal in place, the shareholders will receive $1.5 billion cash and a 26% stake in the company, with the German Deutsche Telekom holding the other 74%.

The lawsuit was filed in Dallas. Says the shareholders:

“The process leading to the proposed acquisition was tainted by conflicts, tilted towards T-Mobile and driven entirely by the board and company management, who together control 15.4 percent of PCS’ outstanding stock and seek liquidity for their illiquid holdings.”

Specifically, the lawsuit states that the deal was designed to discourage other bids so that the merger was guaranteed for Deutsche Telekom. Says TMONews, the shareholders are going after the companies for corporate waste, gross mismanagement, unjust enrichment, and the alleged breach of fiduciary duty. “PCS’ officers and directors will receive millions of dollars in special payments,” the complaint states.

The deal between MetroPCS and Deutsche Telekom was struck earlier this month. Although in place, it still requires regulatory approval from the FCC and Department of Justice, which will delay the closing until the middle of 2013. T-Mobile’s CEO John Legere responded to the complaints with a statement that the deal was necessary in order to remain competitive with the big name carriers, such as Verizon, and is “about driving growth.”

Honda sells its millionth hybrid, sits in Toyota's rearview mirror for now

Honda’s hybrid cars just haven’t achieved the same cachet as Toyota’s without a poster child like the Prius to drive demand. Nonetheless, the automaker has something to crow about with word that it has sold over a million hybrids worldwide as of the end of September. The milestone comes almost 13 years after the first Japan-bound Insight changed hands in November 1999, and after a significant expansion that includes more specialized cars like the CR-Z coupe you see here. Americans represent almost a third of the total at 318,000 vehicles that are split mostly between the Insight and the Civic Hybrid. Hitting seven digits gives Honda some eco-friendly credibility in a crowded field, although the firm might not want to brag too loudly: Toyota has sold four times as many to date and expects to sell one million hybrids just in 2012.

‘How I Met Your Mother’: Marshal And Lily Try To Pick Who Should Be Marvin’s Guardian If They Die (VIDEO)

Marshal and Lily faced a hard truth about what new parenthood had done to them on the latest “How I Met Your Mother.” After agreeing to let Lily’s dad keep an eye on Marvin, they tried to reconnect with the gang. But they didn’t get much information out of them as everyone was respecting their previous edict. If whatever was happening in their live wasn’t an 8 out of 10 then don’t both Marshal and Lily with it.

After a near-death scare, the couple decided they needed to find a guardian for Marvin in the event anything did happen to them. This culminated in a hilarious game show in their apartment that saw Barney, Robin and Ted competing for the coveted position.

The bit had them answering open-ended questions about how they would deal with certain situations that would come up in Marvin’s life. But as it progressed, the gang’s true feelings came out. They missed being able to talk to their friends. Marshal and Lily tried to defend their stance that Marvin was their only priority, but it only hurt the others.

Jim Daly Aims To Broaden Focus On The Family Beyond Anti-Gay Marriage, Anti-Abortion Record

Focus on the Family, the former evangelical powerhouse of the Religious Right that was known for its vitriolic campaigns against gay rights, same-sex marriage and abortion — it’s founder James Dobson once compared gay-marriage advocates to Hitler — is taking a sharp turn away from culture war-style politics and widening its goals to include everything from immigration reform to decreasing poverty and increasing adoptions and foster care opportunities, its top leader said in an interview with The Huffington Post.

“It’s fair to say we have concentrated on some things that have distracted from the main thing, which is the Gospel of Christ,” said Jim Daly, the president and CEO of the Colorado Springs, Colo.-based organization and host of its “Focus on the Family” radio program, which reaches about 2 million people weekly across 1,000 stations.

Daly, who in a book that comes out Tuesday tells conservative evangelicals to be “careful to not create a ‘super sin’ out of homosexuality,” said in the interview that he has worked behind the scenes to broaden the organization’s appeal since taking the reins of its flagship radio show two and a half years ago from the outspoken Dobson. Daly likened the changes to a generational shift in priorities and style. In ReFocus: Living a Life that Reflects God’s Heart, Daly writes that while he still believes homosexuality, same-sex marriage and abortion are sinful and immoral, Christian conservatives need to realize they “may not win many battles” and should “not [be] engaging to win” but to “reflect God’s glory.”

Justin Verlander The Next Tigers’ Obstacle For Slumping Yankees

DETROIT — There were times this year when Justin Verlander took the mound while his team was reeling a bit – and the right-hander’s presence was Detroit’s best shot at snapping out of a momentary funk.
