Xbox Music unavailable on Windows Phone 7 or Windows 7, have to survive on Legacy Zune support instead

Yes, we did bring you word on how Microsoft has announced their next step in muscling their way into the digital music market that is currently dominated by Apple’s iTunes and to a certain extent, Amazon’s Cloud Player, by introducing the Xbox Music service which delivers free streaming on Windows 8-powered devices such as computers and tablets. The thing is, folks who are still running on Windows 7 and Windows Phone 7 will be unable to obtain access to Xbox Music, as the Xbox Music service was specially designed to cater for Microsoft’s Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, and Xbox 360 console only.

So what other options do Windows Phone 7 and Windows 7 users have? Well, they will just have to make do with the Zune Music service, where one is able to obtain access to a similar catalogue of songs as Xbox Music. I guess that ain’t too bad, it is just a matter of taking a different route to the same destination, and you can bet your bottom dollar that eventually, the Zune Music service will be phased out for good.

Gmail search gets a boost

If you remember web-based mail services of old such as Hotmail, Lycos and Yahoo, then you would realize how different things were back in the day, and searching for information was not that easy. Along came Google who changed the search landscape just about forever, and their Gmail service is definitely worth having for anyone who wants to locate their lost emails in a jiffy. Since August, Google apparently opened a field trial that enabled one to sign up in order to retrieve information from Gmail straight from the Google search box itself. The feedback has been more positive than negative, and from today onwards, everyone and their dog are able to sign up for a new and expanded field trial so that you can locate your stuff across Google.

In Gmail, as you start to type your search parameters into the search box, your eyes should start to see relevant emails from Gmail in addition to results from Google Drive, and Google Calendar amongst others, now how neat is that? You can sign up here if interested.

‘2 Broke Girls’: Max And Caroline Try Out For A Spot On ‘Cupcake Wars’ (VIDEO)

It looked like a match made in heaven. Max and Caroline from “2 Broke Girls” could take their homemade cupcake business and appear on “Cupcake Wars.” They set in an adorable audition video, and got a callback to the set. But that’s about as far as their good fortunes were going to take them this week.

Once on set, they saw they were facing off against two women from New Orleans, who’d lost everything in Hurricane Katrina. Then, the theme of the challenge was soul food, with ingredients right up the alley of that duo from the south.

And then there was Caroline. Poor sweet Caroline, who complete lost her mind. In their short intro package, she couldn’t stop babbling, and even broke into a freestyle rap at one point. Then, once in the kitchen she quickly proved why Max handles all the cooking.

$3,000 Tata Nano minicar destined for the US

The $3,000 Tata Nano, a minicar that resembles the Smart Car, has been rolling around India for a few years, only occasionally bursting into flames for no apparent reason. It seems that the Indian automaker is moving into the US market, with plans to launch the redesigned Nano in the next three years. Don’t get your hopes up for an ultra-cheap car, however; after being upgraded to meet US standards, the $3,000 price tag will be closer to $8,000 (which is still pretty cheap, actually).

Originally released as the cheapest car in the world with a price tag of $2,500, the Nano has been dogged by various issues, including lack of heating, no cup holders, smoke coming out of the steering column, a possibly faulty cooling system, and randomly catching on fire while being driven. As you can imagine, these issues resulted in a decline in sales. Not one to be put down, however, Tata is still forging ahead, with the United States and European markets in sight.

Because the US has stricter regulations regarding vehicles than India, the Nano will have to be redesigned to meet new standards. With the redesign comes a higher price tag, which current estimates say will be around $8,000. While that price jump eradicates the Nano’s biggest appeal, it will still place the minicar in the position of cheapest vehicle in the US, with the next cheapest (Nissan Versa) coming in at $11,700.

Says Tata to Automotive News, “The Smart and the Fiat 500 have high sticker prices, and people buy them because they are small cars. But everyone knows you put a lot of money into it. We hope that the sub-$10,000 car has appeal.” Aside from the price tag, the Nano’s biggest potential appeal is no doubt its gas mileage, with gas prices in some parts of the US exceeding $4 a gallon. Presently, the Nano gets between 56 and 66mpg.

Also announced were two All-in-One PCs, the Series 7 ($1,100 for the 23.6 inch model, $1,700 for the 27 inch model), and the 21.5 inch Series 5 at $800. Most of these devices will be available when Windows 8 is released on October 26th.
