Mass Effect 3 to Get New DLC: Omega

I’m huge fan of Mass Effect 3 and the other two games that make up the Mass Effect franchise. I love the way these games combine role-playing elements with exploration, with a dash of shooter on the side. If you’re a fan of the latest game the franchise, new DLC content is coming next month.

mass effect 3 aria omega

The new DLC content is called “Omega” and is described as twice the size of any previous DLC pack for the game. The game will see the blue alien Aria working with a new character as they attempt to gain control of the Omega space station. Word of the new DLC content surfaced last week in a video interview shot at the New York Comic-Con.

Apparently, that video has since been removed from the web. I watched it last week though and the game’s producer in the interview noted that the content would cost 1200 MS points ($14.99 USD) for Xbox 360 gamers and would land on November 27 for Xbox 360. BioWare has since confirmed the same release date and price for both PS3 and PC.

The Apple TV Is Your Dumb-TV→Smart-TV Deal of the Day [Dealzmodo]

The tree outside my window just changed from its green summer livery to a more seasonal burnt orange. Many people feel cheated by the changing of the seasons, but look at the bright side: it’s indoors time! Every self-respecting geek loves the winter, where you can stay inside and watch movies, play games, and vegetate until the earth’s revolution brings the warmth around again. But this also means you should be getting your hibernation cave in order. More »

A Southern California man faces ten years to life in prison for operating a medical marijuana dispensary, despite the fact that such businesses are legal in the state of California.

Rancho Cucamonga resident Aaron Sandusky was convicted in a federal court Friday of two marijuana-related counts. The first is conspiracy to manufacture marijuana plants and maintain a drug-involved premises. The second count is possession of marijuana plants with intent to distribute — which essentially means he was running a pot shop, notes LA Weekly. On each count, the jury found that Sandusky had worked with at least 1,000 marijuana plants.

Sandusky, 41, faces a minimum of 10 years to life in prison. He was taken into custody after the trial and the sentencing hearing is scheduled for Jan. 2013.

Michigan School Standards Under Fire From Republican Legislators

Curriculum standards that were unanimously approved by Michigan’s Board of Education in 2010 are catching flak from some state Republicans, who are pushing legislation to have them thrown out.

The Common Core State Standards are a set of guidelines designed to help districts teach grades K-12 in a consistent manner that prepares students for college and competition in the global economy. English and language arts standards, for example, emphasize writing logical arguments, conducting research and analysis and and writing explanatory texts. Math guidelines call on high school students to practice applying mathematical thinking to real world situations.

The standards are part of an initiative backed by the National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers. They’ve already been adopted in more than 40 states.

MSNBC Says Felix Baumgartner Fell ‘Faster Than Speed Of Light’

The world was watching Felix Baumgartner on Sunday when he completed the highest jump ever and leapt out of a balloon twenty-four miles above the earth’s surface.

Baumgartner, a daredevil skydiver, was the first person to break the speed of sound without being in a jet or spacecraft. The experience, he said, was “hard to describe because you don’t feel it.”

This MSNBC chyron, however, overestimated his speed on Monday:

Windows 8 getting underwhelming response from vendors

We’re just under two weeks away from the official launch of Windows 8, and Microsoft is doing its best to spread the word on its new and upcoming operating system. However, it looks like Windows 8 isn’t getting much praise from supply chain manufacturers over in Asia, and expectations have ended up plummeting.

Topeka Capital analyst Brian White traveled to Asia recently to meet with various supply chain manufacturers, but he quickly discovered that they’re not too happy with Microsoft’s latest creation. White says that the response has been “overwhelmingly negative” and expectations after the launch of Windows 8 are surprisingly low.

White also mentioned that one supplier he talked to said that they don’t expect Windows 8 to make an impact until the second-half of 2013, despite that October and the holiday season are usually when computer sales spike. This leads White to believe that “the PC industry is headed for a muted December quarter.”

Microsoft is expected to spend anywhere from $1.5 billion to $1.8 billion on their Windows 8 marketing campaign, which is the most that any company has ever spent on marketing one of their products. Overall, hype for the new OS seems pretty high in general, but I suppose the real test will come a few months after the official launch when Windows 8 releases to the public.

Adam Scott To Produce Three More TV Intro Mockumentary Specials For Adult Swim

Adam Scott will be recreating several more classic TV show introductions for Adult Swim. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that after the viral success of the weirdly hilarious 15-minute “Greatest Event In Television History” special in which Scott, Jon Hamm and Paul Rudd duplicated the intro sequence of “Simon & Simon” shot-for-shot, the evening Cartoon Network syndicate has commissioned at least three more.

Scott also told THR about the humble beginnings of the “Simon & Simon” remake idea. He and Hamm were emailing each other classic TV intros: “We e-mailed each other ‘Simon & Simon’ at the exact same time, and I said, ‘We should do a shot-for-shot remake of this,’ and he was like, ‘Yeah, totally.’”

Hamm put the special in perspective in an interview with Vulture. “Over four days, we did this insanely ambitious, ultimately pointless thing that I think is really funny and weird.”
