Samsung’s relationship with Apple reduced to merely manufacturer according to report

It is no secret that Apple and Samsung are fierce rivals – in fact with both of them suing each other, it wouldn’t be a stretch of the imagination to think that they both don’t really like each other that much. However Apple has relied on Samsung in the past to manufacture components for their products, like the processor used in the iPads and iPhones, but it seems that Apple is indeed looking to remove Samsung from the equation as much as possible. In a report from KoreaTimes, it was reported that according to a senior Samsung official, Apple has not involved Samsung in the process to develop the A6 chip used in the iPhone 5, instead relegating Samsung to merely manufacturing them.

According to the Samsung source, “There are three types of chip clients […] Some want us to handle everything from chip design, architecture and manufacturing. Some want us to just design and manufacture. Some wants us to just make the chips. Apple is now the third type.” Apple has relied on Samsung in the past when designing their earlier processors, but the A6 chip marks the first time that Apple has designed their own ARMv7 core. In fact this report seems to corroborate a report from last week that suggested that Apple will be turning to TSMC for the manufacturing of its quad-core A7 chip that could be used to power 2013’s iOS devices.

Nintendo Wii sees price slash to $129.99

We know that the Nintendo Wii U is expected to be launched soon, but at the same time despite it being relatively affordable, there are still those out there who cannot afford or who are unwilling to fork out that money. Well if you don’t think that it’s necessary to get the latest Nintendo console, you might be interested to learn that the Wii has its price slashed from a very affordable $149.99 to an even more affordable $129.99. Even better the $129.99 version is a bundle that will come bundled with Wii Sports Resort in addition to Wii Sports. It also includes a black Wii console, a black WiiMote Plus, a black Nunchuk and is expected to be up for sale come 28th of October. So if you think that the Wii still has a ton of gaming life left in it and you don’t really see the need for a Wii U, $129.99 for the bundle does seem like a pretty good deal. Any takers?

Backpack Vacuum makes at least one house chore easier on the back

While a vacuum cleaner is meant to make our lives easier, as it sucks up all of those nasty settlements of dust bunnies around the home, sometimes, all the bending down and squatting while getting up in a repetitive manner to target those hard to reach places can do a number to your back. Which is why instead of bending down or leaning forward, picking up the vacuum cleaner itself from one room to another, the $199.95 Backpack Vacuum, as it is called, will remain nicely on your back to make you into a dust bustin’ Ninja Turtle lookalike.

You basically wear the Backpack Vacuum like a regular backpack, where it is lightweight in nature (tipping the scales at around 7.5 pounds) so that your back will not be strained, where it will remain flushed against your body so that it delivers optimal mobility as you slip into tight corners and access all the different areas and spaces which require cleaning. The inclusion of soft padding ensures that extra cushioning is delivered to the back, while adjustable shoulder straps pave the way for a comfortable fit. Colonies of dust bunnies will be no match for its powerful 800-watt motor, where a HEPA filter removes allergens to boot. Each purchase comes with a handy half dozen cleaning tools, two extension wands, mesh storage bag for accessories, and disposable paper and reusable fabric bags.

Wonderbra Decoder App Lets You Peek Through the Garments of Lingerie Models

It seems like catalogs that work with X-ray type apps are starting to become a thing. Moosejaw started it all a couple of months ago with their winter catalog. IKEA followed suit with an X-ray app of their own, and now Wonderbra is getting on the bandwagon with an app of their own.

wonderbra decoder

The app is called the ‘Wonderbra Decoder,’ and like the others, users simply have to hover it over the designated area on the image or in the video (and over the model) to start undressing her. In this case, the model happens to be 21-year-old Slovakian fashion model Adriana Cernanova, who sports Wonderbra’s newest lingerie offerings this season.

The app is available for free for and Android smartphones and for iOS (but not in the U.S. App Store). I have a feeling women won’t be the only ones who will be using this app…

Hands-on with the first SmartGlass app, Dance Central 3’s Party Time DJ

Smartglass functionality arrives on Xbox 360 with Dance Central 3 tomorrow, we go handson

Since getting outed just head of Microsoft’s big reveal, Xbox 360’s SmartGlass has been under wraps. When Xbox Live VP Marc Whitten officially introduced SmartGlass soon after at E3 2012, we learned a teensy bit more — tablets and smartphones (Android, Windows Phone 8, and iOS, even) would get second-screen functionality via an upcoming free application — and got some hands-on time with it. That application has yet to launch, but Dance Central 3‘s SmartGlass functionality is already here. Well, almost here — the game becomes publicly available tomorrow, and the app won’t launch for a few weeks still — but we got our hands on Dance Central 3‘s SmartGlass companion app a bit early at a New York City review event last week.

Being the first SmartGlass application to launch has its advantages, such as setting the bar. By no means is Dance Central 3‘s SmartGlass application a thorough, necessary accompaniment (for a game that already requires Kinect, that’s probably a good choice), but it does add some neat side fun for friends waiting in the wings to get their respective grooves on. “Party Time DJ” allows friends — employing their iOS, Droid, or WP8 tablet/smartphone, via the Xbox SmartGlass app — to queue up the next song in the game’s neverending “Party Time” mode, or create a playlist. They can also queue downloadable tracks to the Xbox 360 (which thankfully requires approval on the 360 prior to purchase), or swap difficulty settings. Sadly, though the opportunity for real-time griefing presents itself rather clearly here, developer Harmonix chose not to allow song-swapping or difficulty changes mid-song. “Because it would kill them,” Harmonix rep Nick Chester told us.

Nintendo To Drop Price Of Wii To $129 For Holiday Season

NINTENDO_LOGO

Nintendo has dropped the price of the Wii console to $129.99. Of course, this is to keep pace with holiday demand and maintain an edge in a market that’s turned more difficult for the gaming company.

The value package includes a black console with Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort on a single disc, along with a black Wii remote and Nunchuk controller. This replaces the current $149 version that includes New Super Mario Bros.

The lower-cost Wii will be available widely starting October 28, at all the same places you’d normally buy a Wii, like Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart, Gamestop, etc.

As opposed to more hard core consoles, the Wii reaches out to consumers as more of a family toy. With that in mind, it makes sense for Nintendo to go after the holiday shopping crowd.

In related news, the Wii U will hit shelves on November 18 for a much pricier $299.99.

Nintendo has struggled of late to be the powerhouse it once was. The company’s finances are on a steady trip downhill, with operating losses of $462 million as of April.

Eye movements could act as passwords in the future

When it comes to passwords most of us use computer systems that require alphanumerical strings to gain access to e-mail and websites. In some instances, other forms of identification and authentication are used rather than typing a password such as fingerprints or even retina scanning. We may be using eye movements rather than typing in strings of text to gain access to secure websites and services in the future.

According to researchers, when looking at a picture everyone’s eyes move in a different sequence. The researchers claim that even if two people trace the same paths through an image the exact way their eyes move is different. A computer scientist from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas believes that this phenomenon can be harnessed to be used as passwords in future computer systems and to supplement existing systems.

The computer scientist believes that a system can be created that identifies people, by the way, they move their eyes while looking at a computer screen. The computer scientist is Oleg Komogortsev, and he says that there are enough differences that eye movements can be “talked about” as a biometric. The researcher says that his work is in the earliest stages and needs years of work before it can be rolled out for commercial use.

He believes that eye movements could possibly be used as next-generation iris scans. Researchers have proven in the past that some iris scanners can be fooled by simply holding up a high-quality print out of the correct person’s eye in front of the scanner. Komogortsev hopes that adding an eye movement sensor could prevent scanners from being fooled with such simple means.
