Kyle Wood Assault ‘Unfounded,’ As Wisconsin Volunteer Recants Claim Of Hate Crime Attack

A former full-time volunteer for Wisconsin state senator and U.S. House candidate Chad Lee (R) recanted his claim Monday that he had suffered a beating and threats for his sexuality and political affiliation. Kyle Wood, 29, had originally reported to the Madison County, Wis., police that a man had broken into his apartment and proceeded to assault and threaten him on Oct. 24.

“I was getting ready for work and there was a knock at the door,” Wood said in an email to The Daily Caller. “I opened it, and a guy wrapped a ligature around my neck, slammed my head into the doorway, and smashed my face into a mirror, telling me ‘You should have kept your [f****t] mouth shut.'”

He also said that someone had vandalized his car earlier that week, spray-painting it with abusive comments like “house-trained republican f****t” and “traitor.”

In conjunction with the news, Disney also revealed that plans for a seventh “Star Wars” film, “Star Wars: Episode VII,” are in motion with eyes on theatrical release in 2015.

“It’s now time for me to pass ‘Star Wars’ on to a new generation of filmmakers. Google aiming for more Android tablet apps

Yesterday Google announced the Nexus 10 tablet, proving that the company is serious about moving further into the tablet market. They also announced an updated version to the Nexus 7 that now comes with 32GB of storage and 3G capabilities. With the company’s obvious dedication to tablets, it’s no surprise that Google wants more Android tablet apps in its Google Play store.

The Nexus 10 is incredibly light and comes with an amazing high-resolution screen with a 2560×1600 resolution. It’s got a powerful processor and obviously a strong army of Google apps and services. However, tablet-specific apps have been somewhat of a hit-or-miss with Android, but Google is looking to change that.

Robert Hamilton, product manager on Google’s mobile team, says that Google would “like developers to think more and more about great tablet experiences,” and that “there’s a lot of really good Android tablets out there now.” Hamilton mentioned the Nexus 10 specifically and said that if the Nexus 10 is going to be successful, it needs developers that can make great tablet apps for it.

Hamilton also says that he’s seeing “smart” Android developers go beyond just supporting a bigger screen when developing tablet apps, but also thinking about the user experience as a whole, such as usage habits like where tablets are used, how they’re being used, and what they’re being used for.

Atlantic City Hurricane Sandy: Remembering The City’s Iconic Boardwalk (PHOTOS)

As Hurricane turned Superstorm Sandy moves away from the coast and the damage is surveyed, we’re saddened to see the fate of Atlantic City‘s iconic boardwalk.

As early as Monday morning, Sandy was causing the seaside promenade to be broken into pieces that could be seen floating in the swelling waters. Even before the storm made landfall, a 50-foot section of the boardwalk was wiped out by strong waves, NBC reports.

Atlantic City’s boardwalk opened in 1870, making it the first boardwalk in the U.S. Its original purpose was merely to keep sand out of the city’s ritzy hotels and train cars, and no commerce was to be allowed within 30 feet of the walk, according to Atlantic City online. This ordinance was scrapped 10 years later and shops on the walk boomed.

Google Brings Its Free Siri Competitor to the iPhone

Google voice search is really handy: don’t just take my word for it, go to Google.com on your computer and try it out. Sure, on the computer, it feels silly, but on a mobile device it will fit right in. Google just updated its Google Search app for iOS to include smart voice searching and bring that functionality to the iPhone (it had already been available on Android for a while.) The voice search uses Google’s Knowledge Graph technology to parse commands given in natural speech accurately and efficiently. For instance, a question like “what does the Brooklyn Bridge look like” will point to an image search, kind of like the same query fed to Siri. In the past, Apple has removed apps from the App Store because they “duplicate existing functionality,” but I don’t think they can pull that one on Google.

It’s available for free from the Apple App Store.
