NASA and IHMC build X1 exoskeleton to give us a lift, keep us fit in space and on Earth

It’s hard to deny the appeal of a space-bound robot like NASA’s Robonaut 2, fears of subversion notwithstanding. The space agency and Florida’s Institute for Human and Machine Cognition know it, and they want to put that technology into an exoskeleton with a nobler purpose than performing chores on space stations. The in-development X1 (not yet pictured) adapts the Robonaut’s skills to a body-hugging frame with 10 points of movement that might give humans an assist when they need it the most. In space, the X1 could automate and add challenge to exercise for astronauts in low gravity, or provide the extra muscle for that fabled day we return to manned surface exploration. NASA envisions its exoskeleton having more grounded uses as well, such as rehabilitation for leg injuries or walking for those who never had the chance. Although we’re not expecting a rapid turnaround knowing NASA’s lengthy schedules, we might see the X1 in use sooner than most such products in the wake of a purposefully quick development cycle — and, no doubt, a few interested customers here on Earth.

Biden-Ryan Debate: All About Joe (VIDEO)

DANVILLE, Ky. –- Joe Biden did everything President Barack Obama did not last week, and a good bit more.

The vice president dominated the spotlight in the only debate between himself and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), charging at Republican Mitt Romney’s running mate from the get-go and bombarding him with a flurry of eye rolls, interjections and accusations.

Brad Sherman, Howard Berman Fight: California Congressional Race Turns Physical (VIDEO)

LOS ANGELES — An increasingly bitter California congressional race between two House Democrats turned physical Thursday when one aggressively seized the shoulder of his opponent during a debate, yanked him toward his chest and shouted, “You want to get into this?”

The confrontation between Democratic Reps. Brad Sherman and Howard Berman came amid a nasty campaign for a Los Angeles-area seat that has become one of the most expensive House contests in the nation.

‘Two And A Half Men’: Walden, Alan And Lyndsey Makes The Most Awkward Threesome Ever (VIDEO)

Two and a Half Men” almost went into uncharted territory after Alan proposed the idea of spicing up their love life. After quickly rejecting some ideas inspired by Fifty Shades of Grey, Lyndsey pushed Alan to present some of his own personal fantasies, and then she jumped on the idea of a threesome.

The only problem for Alan is that she suggested that before they go with his idea of a threesome, he needed to participate in her threesome … with Walden. Knowing he was outclassed in almost every way physically by Walden, Alan was reluctant, but he approached Walden. To Alan’s surprise, Walden was game.

Or at least he thought he was. Once they were in the moment, it became pretty clear that Lyndsey only had eyes for Walden, leaving Alan to awkwardly pet and then lick her back. But Walden only had eyes for Zoey, and broke down. He simply wasn’t ready.

Acer Iconia W510 finally arrives at the FCC

We did take a gander at the Acer Iconia W510 just a few days ago which was tipped to arrive in the US this coming November 9th with a $500 price tag attached to it, running on Microsoft’s new Windows 8 operating system to boot. Now, we do know that Windows 8 will roll out officially at the end of this month (hopefully to much fanfare!), so having the Acer Iconia W510 arrive in early November would make it a wee bit late. What’s more important, however, is the fact that it has already gone through inspection at the FCC, and have passed all tests with flying colors, meaning it is being prepared for a general release in time.

What is most interesting about the Acer Iconia W510 would be the rather generous 7300mAh battery that it packs – which hopefully, it will be able to deliver the 9-hour battery life as promised. Just to jog your memories, the Acer Iconia W510 will come with an Intel Atom Clover Trail-based processor, accompanied by 2GB RAM, a 10.1” display, and carry a 32GB SSD for your memory needs..

Canopy Sensus iPhone case introduces touch controls

The PS Vita has one novelty that other handheld consoles cannot claim to carry – touch controls located at the back of it, although you can say that Nintendo did innovate far more on the portable console landscape than Sony did with the introduction of dual displays, and a touchscreen at that! Well, Canopy’s most recent Sensus iPhone case is one that introduces touch controls at the back of the phone, in addition to the sides to boot. What you see above is just a transparent prototype, so things could very well change in the future.

According to Ian Spinelli, marketing coordinator at Canopy, “The sensors can handle up to ten independent responses.” When you add these inputs with the screen’s six, you have a far better idea on how much more complex games can get on the smartphone. I guess we can have one of those crazy beat-based games at the arcades with so many more touch sensitive options being made available.

Softbank might just purchase a stake in Sprint

The mobile carrier landscape in the US is definitely changing, what with the most recent merger concerning both T-Mobile and MetroPCS, where the latter’s smartphones will soon be able to take advantage of T-Mobile’s network coverage. Well, Japanese carrier Softbank could play a role in reshaping the US wireless landscape too, with talk that the Japanese giant could very well drop a cool $19 billion thereabouts (according to The Nikkei newspaper) for a major stake in Sprint – we’re talking about as much as 75% here. It does help for Softbank to have such a huge war chest, considering how they are currently the only carrier in Japan that offers the iPhone as an exclusive device.

One thing is for sure though – if the deal between Softbank and Sprint goes through, it will be able to disrupt the wireless industry that is slowly shifting towards a Verizon and AT&T duopoly. Do you think Sprint will end up being a Japanese business concern eventually, or is this just a flash in the pan rumor that was cooked up?
