What If Famous Photos Were Ruined By Annoying Watermarks? [Photography]

Watermarks are the annoying result of people stealing pictures—they’re ugly, distracting and cheapen the art of photography. But it’s a necessary evil! Or is it? Kip Praslowicz poked fun at the ugly watermarks ruining pictures these days by plastering them over famous photos. It’s not a good look. More »

“Bounce” Along To Apple’s Latest iPod TV Ad

Screen Shot 2012-10-10 at 10.11.53 PM

If iPods could dance, it would look a lot like this new commercial Apple has just posted to its website. The ad shows a plethora of colorful iPod touch, iPod nano, and iPod shuffles bouncing around.

In fact, the ad itself is called “Bounce.”

There’s plenty to be proud about with Apple’s latest generation iPods, especially the 5th gen touch with a 4-inch Retina display, Siri, and a more powerful A5 chipset. But in this ad, Apple’s chosen to play the color card, as the entirely new family of iPods now comes in a variety of color flavors.

Perhaps the next ads will focus on theiPod Nano‘s resurrected display or Siri’s presence on the all-new iPod touch.

For now, get down to Willy Moon’s “Yeah Yeah” and don’t forget to put a little bounce in your step.

Deb Butler Uses Transvaginal Probe To Attack Thom Goolsby In North Carolina State Senate Race

North Carolina state Senate candidate Deb Butler (D) released a new ad attacking incumbent Republican state Sen. Thom Goolsby, featuring Butler wielding a transvaginal probe against Goolsby’s record on women’s health issues.

“He wouldn’t dare show you this, but this is Thom Goolsby’s contribution to women’s health,” Butler says, while holding the probe. “A medically unnecessary, invasive procedure that is now required by state law.”

“He promised us his first priority would be jobs,” she continues. “But instead he’s following you into the doctor’s office.”

Alan Schroeder: Massachusetts Senate Debates, Round Three: Warren Over Brown

Elizabeth Warren seems to have figured out an effective antidote to the potency of Scott Brown’s charms. Unable to match her opponent on charisma, she comes at him with intellect. She gets under his skin, but he doesn’t get under hers.

Jeff Flake Promises Not To Sign Tax Pledge He Already Signed

Jeff Flake, an Arizona Republican congressman running for U.S. Senate, said Wednesday he had not and would not sign the no-tax pledge from Grover Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform, even though the group says he already signed.

“The only pledge I’d sign is a pledge to sign no more pledges,” Flake said at a debate with Democrat Richard Carmona and Libertarian Marc Victor. “We’ve got to ensure that we go back and represent our constituents in a way — I believe in limited government, economic freedom, individual responsibility. I don’t want higher taxes. But no more pledges.”

Flake is listed as one of the 279 signers of the pledge against new taxes on the website of Americans for Tax Reform. The pledge is a promise to voters to “ONE, oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rate for individuals and business; and TWO, oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates.”

Verizon Nokia Lumia 822 appears in leaked photos

Photos have emerged of the Nokia Lumia 822, which is the yet-to-be-released Verizon version of the Nokia Lumia 820. The Nokia Lumia 822 is a Windows Phone 8 smartphone, and is joined in the Lumia family by the 920 and 810 models. Little is known about this phone, but the pictures show that it is a sleek handset with an interesting matte-type finish on the back.

The Nokia 822 will, presumably, have the same specifications as the Nokia Lumia 820, considering the only difference between the two is the 822′s exclusivity to Verizon and slight differences in the way the device is shaped. The mobile gadget is mid-range all around, with a 4.3 inch WVGA display, and a front camera and 8MP rear camera. The Lumia 820 is an LTE device, so it’s safe to assume that the Lumia 822 will support Verizon’s 4G LTE.

Nokia’s push of the Lumia models across multiple US carriers puts it in a precarious – and potentially lucrative – position. With the right marketing, the Lumia models could give the company a large sales jump. Due to the newness of Windows Phone 8, however, and Nokia’s “meh” status at the moment, without the right marketing hook, consumers may hesitate to take the jump, causing the entire endeavor to flounder.

There’s no word yet on when the Nokia Lumia 822 will be available from Verizon, or what its price will be. Because the phone is mid-range, with moderate specs, its probably safe to assume that the price will be lowish. Rumor says this handset will be released sometime around the HTC 8X‘s launch.

OnLive was reportedly sold for roughly $5 million to venture capital firm

Even though weeks have passed since that well-documented OnLive kerfuffle took place, where unfortunate layoffs and the formation of a “new company” were at the forefront of it all, previously unknown details are still coming out of the woodwork. According to Mercury News, the once-promising cloud gaming outfit was purchased by a venture capital group for a mere $4.8 million, which appears to be a relatively small amount of cash for an outfit once valued upwards of $1.8 billion — not to mention when compared to, say, rival Gaikai’s $380 million sale to Sony. Still, this is said to have been due to the bad shape OnLive was in at the time, with the Palo Alto-based company reportedly owing more than $18 million in debt, leaving it with no choice but to take “the best that it could get.”
