Winter Weddings: Simple Tips from a Celebrity Planner

By Kelly Rouba | This article originally appeared on GalTime.com

Even though it was more than 20 years ago, Rachel Brown Jamison still gets starry-eyed when she recalls the details of her friend’s winter wedding.

“She had her wedding in a chapel at night,” says Jamison. “The chapel windows all had small arrangements with taper candles, and they kept the lights lower in the chapel so that it glowed. The bridesmaids wore dark green velvet, and it was very romantic.”

Richard Castaldo, Columbine Shooting Survivor, Fighting Foreclosure With Occupy LA’s Help

Richard Castaldo fought for his life 13 years ago, after he was shot eight times during the Columbine High School massacre. Now he’s fighting to save his home.

The survivor, who will spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair as a result of the shooting, moved to Los Angeles five years ago to pursue a career in music, only to fall behind on mortgage payments for his condo, NBC Los Angeles reports. He may have again found help in the form of Occupy Los Angeles.

“I feel like they’re really the only group that doesn’t have an ulterior motive,” said Castaldo, who admits he “should have known better” than to believe the value of his condominium would go up. Roughly 36,000 California housing units received a foreclosure filing in October, according to RealtyTrac.

BlackBerry Patagonia 9620 leaks, says hola Nextel

BlackBerry Patagonia 9620 specs leak, says hola Nextel in December

BlackBerry 10 may be just around the bend, but it seems that’s not going to stop RIM from launching a new handset. A leaked document posted by Crackberry has revealed the specs of the QWERTY-toting BlackBerry Patagonia 9620 — there’s BB OS 7.1 running the show with a 1.2GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 processor under the hood, mated with 768MB RAM. Par for the course, the display is a 2.44-inch, 480 x 360 affair, and you can also find 2GB of storage augmentable via microSD, a 5-megapixel rear snapper, GPS, WiFi and PTT support along for the ride — if the source is to be believed. Info on pricing and the exact release date of the apparently budget smartphone is MIA as yet, but Nextel Mexico has it pegged for a December outing. You can sign up for a release notification if you’re covered and can’t curb your buying itch before BB10’s entry-level offerings land.

Clayton Fiscus, Montana GOP Lawmaker, Wants Bill Requiring Teaching Of Intelligent Design

Montana state Rep. Clayton Fiscus (R) hasn’t even been sworn into office yet, but he’s already made clear that he’d like to work on a bill that would require the teaching of intelligent design alongside evolution when he officially goes to work at the state Capitol.

The National Center for Science Education reported this week that Fiscus had submitted a request for a draft of the legislation as one of his first orders of business.

The measure, which broadly plans to “require public schools to teach intelligent design along with evolution,” will now be drafted and considered by the legislature when it goes into session next year.

Giving Tuesday Offers Worthy Ways To Give

Just in time for the holidays, Giving Tuesday — Black Friday and Cyber Monday’s more generous relative — is in town not just for a visit, but to stay.

The Giving Tuesday initiative was launched by New York’s 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation to urge charities, businesses, schools and religious and community groups to give back around the holidays.

For the initiative’s first year, organizers dedicated the Tuesday after Thanksgiving as the day to spread the word and have galvanized more than 2,000 groups to each commit to a project that will benefit at least one registered 501c3 nonprofit.

Eagle-Eyed Argus II: An Artificial Retina That Reads For the Blind

The advent of cochlear implants in the 1970s and ocular implants in the early 2000s revolutionized hearing and vision loss treatment by circumventing damaged organs with digital prostheses that directly stimulated neural pathways. But these devices have been poor substitutes for the real thing. That is, until now. More »

Andru Dark Edition Lets You Declare Your Android Love

There is nothing quite like showing off to the rest of the world just how much you love your Android device, and this can be done through the kind of case you use, or perhaps if you want to, you can always settle for the Andru Dark Edition. Wait a minute, you ask. The what? Andru creators Gen have come up with a far darker (literally) version of Andru, which is a physical representation of the Android, er, droid, that will definitely go down well with the rest of your raven black desktop and accessories.

The Andru Dark Edition will retail for $25 a pop, inclusive of shipping, where it shares a similar pair of poseable arms and antennae, stand and cable which is found in the original, albeit it will come in a matte black finish. Not only that, another element of “evil” is present in its red lit eyes when charging, where they will turn to amber on standby. What do you think of this accessory – nifty or not?
