Wii Mini official: $99.99 Canada exclusive sheds internet

Nintendo’s new Wii Mini has been made official, a compact refresh to the original Wii with a few drawbacks – such as no internet connectivity – to keep the price down. The new console, prematurely leaked in the past weeks, is Canada-only – at least initially – where it will be sold at CA$99.99 from December 7. Nintendo has trimmed out all online functionality among other things.

In addition to no online playback – or, indeed, streaming media services like Netflix – there’ll be no GameCube backward compatibility in the new Wii Mini. Your hundred (Canadian) bucks gets you the new black and red Wii Mini console and a matching red Wii Remote Plus and nunchuck, together with a sensor bar, power adapter, and composite cable.

If you want the HDTV component cable you’ll need to shell out separately; Nintendo claims there’s compatibility with “most” of the existing Wii accessories. “It’s a great value for first-time Wii owners who just want to jump in and experience all the great Wii games that helped usher in a revolution in motion-controlled gaming” the company suggests.

Nintendo says the Wii Mini will work with over 1,400 disc-based Wii games, and that no further information about broader availability outside of Canada is available. Still, if the smaller, cheaper console is a hit, we can see Nintendo being eager to expand sales and help shore up its middling bottom line.

Apple: iMac arrives November 30

Apple’s new iMac will go on sale on Friday, November 30, the company has confirmed, with the 21.5-inch all-in-one computer available in-store the same day, while the 27-inch iMac will follow on in December. Announced back in October, the new desktop will be priced from $1,299 for the smaller model and from $1,799 for the larger version, with a choice of Core i5 or Core i7 processors.

There will be two basic specs of each size. The 21.5-inch iMac will come with a 2.7GHz quadcore Core i5 processor (up to 3.2GHz Turbo Boost) and NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M graphics; a $1.499 version will have a 2.9GHz quadcore Core i5 (up to 3.6GHz Turbo Boost) and GeForce GT 650M graphics. Both will have 8GB of 1600MHz memory and a 1TB hard-drive.

As for the 27-inch iMac, that will kick off with a 2.9 GHz quadcore Core i5 (up to 3.6GHz Turbo Boost) processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M graphics. For $1,999 there’s a 3.2 GHz quadcore Core i5 model with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX graphics.

Options will include Core i7 chips and Fusion Drive storage, the latter pairing 128GB of flash memory with traditional hard-drives for a mixture of speed and high capacity. More details in our hands-on.

Nokia Holding A Mysterious Event On The 28th Of November?

Nokia seems to be preparing for a mysterious party or event on Wednesday, the 28th of November. The event is reportedly happening in London and popular DJ and producer deadmau5 is expected to rock the house with his signature style and groove. Judging from the advert above, it says that “something exciting is on the way.” Interestingly, there’s also a “This Is Nokia Lumia #Switch 28.11.12″ caption under it which sort of gives a clue that Nokia will be launching a new product during the even, another Lumia perhaps.

Even more interesting is the “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” sentence near the end of video. Could it be the grey Lumia 920? We’ll leave you hanging for now, rest assured that we’ll update you as soon as we hear any updates to the mysterious event. It looks like we’ll be having two exciting events tomorrow. It was only yesterday when we said that Microsoft could officially launch Windows Phone 7.8 tomorrow, Wednesday.

Redesigned Apple iMacs available from November 30th, 27-inch model shipping next month

Apple’s announced that its updated 21.5-inch iMac range will be in stores and online on November 30th. The bigger 27-inch version will arrive later and start shipping next month. This year’s refresh manages to cram a 1TB Fusion Drive, quad-core Core i5 processor and NVIDIA graphics into that oh-so-slim redesigned chassis. The 21.5-inch version is available with a 2.7GHz processor and NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M, priced at $1,299. However, bump the processor up to the 2.9GHz variant and NVIDIA’s GeForce GT 650M and you can expect to pay $1,499. If you’re willing to wait for the 27-incher, build options start with a 2.9GHz processor and a GeForce GTX 660M at $1,799, moving up to $1,999 for the top-of-the-range 3.2GHz Core i5 model with GeForce GTX 675MX graphics. A shame it missed those Black Friday sales, though.

Apple’s Redesigned 21-inch iMac Available November 30, 27-inch Following In December

design

Apple today clarified when it will make the new iMacs available finally, after keeping customers waiting about specific shipping timelines since their unveiling. The 21.5-inch iMac will ship on November 30, Apple said in a press release, with the 27-inch model coming in the more general time frame of “December,” with no more specific date attached.

When Apple announced the new iMacs in October at a special press event, the company said the 21-inch model would be available in November, with the 27-inch model following on in December. The new information puts a specific date for availability on the smaller version, which Apple says will be available to purchase in stores, through retail partners and through its official online store beginning November 30, which is this upcoming Friday.

The new iMacs feature refreshed internals, including Core i5 processors, s well as NVIDIA discrete graphics. They also feature a $1299 price-of-entry, as well as a significant case redesign that sheds a lot of weight and bulk from previous versions.

Lara Stone Pregnant: Model Shows Off Baby Bump In Sexy Red Dress (PHOTOS)

Spotting a model’s baby bump can sometimes be likened to noticing that a normal person ate a big lunch. But now that these super humans are opting more and more for body con styles during their nine-month stretch, they’ve taken out the guessing portion of the game.

The latest fashion it-girl to show off her growing belly, Lara Stone, stepped out last night for the 22nd Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards — and she looked surprisingly different. Despite her usual sexy styling, we hardly recognized the Dutch model with her new glow. Pregnancy definitely suits Lara!

The 28-year-old and her husband, British funny man David Walliams, announced the news that they were expecting their first child just two weeks ago, but Lara is already hitting the red carpet in full baby bump glory. The face of Calvin Klein showed off her figure in a slinky red gown — definitely giving fellow model Camila Alves (aka Queen Of The Pregnant Bandage Dress and Mrs. Matthew McConaughey) a run for her money in this getup. All right, Gisele, the torch has officially been passed on to you.

Astronomers Discover Pac-Man on two of Saturn’s moons

Any child of the 80s will have fond memories of standing in the arcade playing Pac-Man or gobbling up little power pellets on their Atari at home. Astronomers have now discovered infrared Pac-Man on two of Saturn’s moons. I particularly like the infrared Pac-Man discovered on Mimas.

As you can see in the image, the IR Pac-Man appears to be getting ready to gobble up a giant crater power pellet. These infrared images were captured using NASA’s Cassini infrared spectrometer. The second moon showing a Pac-Man-like infrared signature is Tethys.

Jet Propulsion Laboratory workers first saw the Pac-Man image on the moon Mimas in 2010, but only recently discovered a similar infrared image on Tethys. The scientists believe the phenomenon that creates the Pac-Man images on the surface of the moon has to do with high-energy electrons that strike the moons at low latitudes on the side of the moon facing forward as it orbits around Saturn. The scientists believe that this phenomenon creates compacted ice that resists heat more effectively than on other areas of the moon’s surface.

The scientists also report that discovery of a Pac-Man image on Tethys has proven that the processes that create the images are more widespread than they previously believed. The scientists believe that more Pac-Man infrared images can be discovered on moons orbiting Saturn and possibly on the moons orbiting other planets in the solar system.

Lead author of the study Carly Howett states, “Finding a second Pac-Man in the Saturn system tells us that the processes creating these Pac-Men are more widespread than previously thought. The Saturn system – and even the Jupiter system – could turn out to be a veritable arcade of these characters.”

Nintendo makes Wii Mini official: currently exclusive to Canada, launches December 7th for $100

Nintendo makes Wii Mini official exclusive to Canada, launches December 7th for $100

That was quick. Scarcely two hours after Best Buy spoiled the party, Nintendo is launching the Wii Mini. The crimson console is billed as a Canada-exclusive for now — we’re reaching out to confirm if and when it might go elsewhere — and is clearly meant to catch those families that find the Wii U (or even a regular Wii) too pricey. To get there, though, they’ll have to make some big sacrifices. The Wii Mini cuts out both GameCube compatibility (seen in some regular Wii variants) and, more importantly, internet access; unfortunately, this won’t be your budget Netflix box. Still, when gamers in the Great White North can pick one up on December 7th for $100, it might be the ideal fit for that TV in the basement or the occasional party.

Tourists Arrive In Myanmar’s Wild, Violent West

MRAUK-U, Myanmar — It was dusk in a corner of Myanmar recently shaken by some of the bloodiest sectarian violence in a generation, and a dozen Canadian tourists climbed to the top of a grassy hill, cameras ready to capture the sweeping view.

Moss-covered pagodas rose from foggy hilltops all along the horizon, their bell-shaped silhouettes dark against the blue sky. Birds flitted through lush treetops. A small throng of children played on a dirt road nearby.
