Canon EOS 7D Mark II rumored for February 2013 announcement

If you’re looking forward to an updated version of the Canon EOS 7D, word on the street has it that Canon could be prepping an EOS 7D Mark II and according to the folks at Canon Rumors, a source has tipped them off that an announcement of the alleged device could be taking place sometime in February next year. Their source has also provided them with a spec list of the camera and for those interested in a successor to the 7D, we could be looking forward to a 24.2MP APS-C sensor, 10.2 fps shooting, Dual Digic V, dual card slot although there was no mention of which cards will be supported, a new ergonomic design, and a new battery. Since there isn’t any hard evidence to prove that these could be the specs of the alleged 7D Mark II, we suggest you take it with a grain of salt for now, but in the meantime what do you think? Is this what you might have expected, or are you hoping for something better?

Steve Ballmer-autographed Microsoft Surface tablet goes up for auction

A signed product by the CEO of the company or its designer isn’t for everyone – after all they are usually priced way higher than the original, but at the same time we guess its price point can be justified by collectors who are looking to get their hands on a one-of-a-kind item. That being said if you think that describes you or someone you know, you might be interested to learn that a 32GB Microsoft Surface tablet signed by none other than Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer has gone up for auction on eBay where at this time of posting, it is priced at a whopping €1,500.

For those who have the cash to spare, it should be noted that by purchasing this signed Surface tablet, the money will be going towards good use where it will be spent on a Christmas party at the cancer ward Charité, Campus Virchow-Klinikum, Berlin as part of the Children’s Cancer Association. The tablet will come with free shipping and all of its original accessories, so if you’d like to do a good deed or just learn more about the auction and the charity, head on over to its eBay listing for the details (note: it’s in German).

Google+ gets integrated into the Google Play store

We’re sure that many developers get frustrated at times thanks to the internet trolls who sometimes leave fake reviews, making negative claims about an app even though they are false. This is partly thanks to the fact that we get to hide behind our internet screen names, but it looks like reviews on Google Play could soon take a serious turn as Google has integrated Google+ into the Google Play store. Basically what this means is that if you wanted to leave a review on an app that you’ve been using, whether positive or negative, you will need to sign in with your Google+ profile and as you can see in the screenshot above, the reviews will now show that it has been reviewed by “A Google user”. We’re not sure if full integration has been implemented, but we expect that similar to YouTube, your real name (or whatever name you’ve listed on your Google+ account) will be revealed, which means that silly and troll-ish reviews will soon come with a real name attached to them, hopefully making reviews a more legit read.

NOOK apps for iOS and Android updated for UK debut

Barnes & Noble’s NOOK apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android have been updated, adding broader language support and arriving in the UK download stores for the first time. The new apps – v3.3 – add British English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish language features, along with iPhone 5 support and VoiceOver functionality with Apple’s accessibility tools; there’s also screen magnification on iOS devices.

Barnes & Noble launched its NOOK ereaders in the UK market over the past month or so, initially with the NOOK Simple Touch and its GlowLight illuminated sibling, and then with the NOOK HD and HD+ earlier this week. The retailer has said that the NOOK Video download and rental store will launch in the UK sometime in December.

Cross device synchronization means that any downloads made to a dedicated NOOK device can also be added to a smartphone or tablet running the NOOK app. NOOK Sync keeps your point in the book up to date, as well as pulling across bookmarks, highlights, and any notes that have been made.

There’s also NOOK Newsstand, for digital magazines and newspapers, with print-style layout. You can find NOOK for Android in the Play store, while NOOK for iOS is available in the App Store. Both are free downloads.

Catholic Priests Pushed To Become Better Preachers

ST. LOUIS (RNS) As Drew Burkemper got up to preach, the weight of his task was evident. His classmate at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary, Adam Maus, had just pretty much killed it.

Like Burkemper, Maus and other Catholic seminarians were told to prepare and deliver to his class a homily for an imaginary event.

Maus’ scenario had been a wedding between a 42-year-old bride with four children and her groom, who had recently returned to the Catholic Church. The nine other seminarians in the room loved his approach, showering him in glowing feedback.

Dale Schaefer, Racing Reverend Puts Faith Into 750-Horsepower Dragster

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (RNS) Until his recent retirement, the Rev. Dale Schaefer spent most Sunday mornings wearing vestments and leading worship services at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

But whenever he had the time on his off days, the soft-spoken preacher would slip a helmet over his gray hair, don an asbestos racing suit, and climb into the cockpit of a 750-horsepower dragster he built from the ground up.

“There is kind of a rush when you launch this thing off the starting line,” Schaefer said, giving his customized 1980 Plymouth Arrow a loving slap. “Your eyes go back in their sockets and they don’t pop back until you’re about at the hot dog stand. Then you can see again. It’s a rush.”

Gene Robinson, Gay Bishop, Sets Sights On D.C. As Retirement Looms

(RNS) When V. Gene Robinson became the first openly gay bishop in the Episcopal Church in 2003, his controversial election triggered shock waves and fears of schism across the worldwide Anglican Communion. Hundreds of parishes left the Episcopal Church in protest.

Now, as this lighting-rod figure prepares to retire on Jan. 5, he’s leaving New Hampshire for a city that knows polarization all too well: Washington, D.C.

But rather than throw fuel on the culture wars, Robinson foresees a new role as a bridge builder for a nation strained by divisive issues. First up: helping his new church home, St. Thomas’ Parish in Dupont Circle, found a Center for Non-Violent Communication.

Demand for Nokia’s Lumia 920 is higher than previous Nokia products according to Finnish retailer

Based on the various reports we’ve read so far, it certainly sounds like Nokia’s latest flagship phone, the Lumia 920, is doing pretty well for itself, and to be honest after seeing the handset officially unveiled a few months ago, it made me want to hop aboard the Windows Phone bandwagon myself and unsurprisingly those sentiments appear to be shared by many around the world. Even retailers have sung praises about the device, in particular one Finnish retailer who claims that the Lumia 920 has had the highest demand in their stores compared to other Nokia phones released in the past 10 years!

According to DNA Trading Ltd’s Managing Director Sami Aavikko, they are currently selling out devices as soon as they arrive in the store and had to create a booking list in order to keep up with the demand and manage orders. Now some of you guys might be thinking that maybe this might be attributed to a short supply, but according to Aavikko, this isn’t the case and it is because of true demand. With reports of both the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 having received 2.5 million orders to date, we guess this isn’t too surprising. If you’re wondering if you should make the switch to Windows Phone, in particular the Lumia 920, check out our comprehensive review of the device to help you make your decision.

Netflix Android app updated with tweaks to the player UI, 4.2 compatibility

Netflix Android app updated with tweaks to the player UI, 42 compatibility

Netflix just refreshed the front end of its Android app a few weeks ago, and is now tweaking the look and functions of the player itself again after previously making changes back in April. As seen above, version 2.1 brings a look that’s closer to the one we’ve seen on iOS since the spring, with large red buttons, a bigger volume slider, 10 second skip back and stills that change in the background as the user moves the scrub bar. The changelog also notes added support for Android 4.2 plus other unspecified playback and stability bug fixes, grab the newest edition at the source link to try it out for yourself.
