Samsung ATIV S Delayed Again?

It seems that the first Windows Phone 8-powered handset from South Korean conglomerate, Samsung, has hit yet another snag – it has been delayed, at least according to the good people over at SamMobile. The anonymous source tipped them off that Samsung will start to ship the ATIV S from week 52 onwards – which would mean that it is the last week of the year, and that translates to the ATIV S being delayed. Folks who have already placed an order for the ATIV S and were looking forward to using a spanking new handset this Christmas would definitely be disappointed, and for those of us living across the pond in Europe, you might even have to wait all the way until January next year.

Is there a reason for the delay? Well, some think that because the Samsung Galaxy S3 is such a hot seller at this point in time, and since the ATIV S shares a similar display as that of the Galaxy S3, Samsung might have pushed back the ATIV S’ release due to a production switch in build and materials.

Levine: BioShock Infinite won’t have a multiplayer mode

These days, it seems like publishers are all about multiplayer. They’re sticking multiplayer in where it doesn’t belong (we’re looking at you, Dead Space and God of War) simply because they think a game won’t sell as well without it. It’s been a major sticking point for a lot of gamers who don’t want to see single player modes become less important, but thankfully, not all publishers and developers have been bitten by the multiplayer bug.

One of these studios is apparently Irrational Games. BioShock Infinite promises to be one of the biggest games of 2013, but when it eventually arrives, it will be without any sort of multiplayer mode. When asked on Twitter if BioShock Infinite would include multiplayer, game lead Ken Levine replied with a simple “No multi,” confirming that the game will be a true-to-form single player experience.

We’ve heard of work-in-progress multiplayer modes for BioShock Infinite before, but it seems all of those modes have been canned. Good thing too, because historically, gamers haven’t been very nice about multiplayer modes that feel shoehorned in. BioShock 2 had one such multiplayer mode, though many thought it was unnecessary and didn’t add that much to the overall experience.

Being a single player-only title worked well for the original BioShock, so we don’t doubt it’ll work for BioShock Infinite too. BioShock Infinite will be launching for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on February 26, 2013. What do you think of Levine’s announcement that it won’t have any multiplayer mode?

Apple Sold 11 iPads Per Hour During Black Friday, Says Report

Steve Ballmer was right when he said that the current Surface tablet sales were modest. At least that was proven by Gene Munster and his team at Piper Jaffray, who conducted a survey during Black Friday. The team spent around eight hours on Friday last week and monitored the shopping activity of a particular Apple Store and Microsoft Store at the Mall of America in Minneapolis. They found out that the Microsoft Store had lesser shopping activity when compared to the Apple Store. According to their survey,  there was 47 percent less foot traffic at the Microsoft Store and that it was selling around 3.5 items per hour.

On the other hand, the Apple Store has shoppers buying around 17.2 items per hour and averaging 11 iPads per hour. “Despite heavy TV, print and billboard advertising for the new Microsoft Surface tablet, not one was sold sold during the two hours,” the firm said. However, Piper Jaffray added that iPad and Mac sales were lesser this year, saying that supply issues were the reason for the decline. “The positive take away was store traffic was up 31% y/y, likely driven by shoppers wanting to see the new iPad Mini. The negatives were that the most popular iPad Mini (16G) is in limited supply and Mac sales (~12% of revenue) continue to appear to be impacted by the iPad and a slowdown ahead of the new iMac,” Piper Jaffray explains.
