Powerball Numbers Find No Winner, Jackpot Reaches Record High

WASHINGTON, Nov 25 (Reuters) – The top prize in the Powerball lottery will reach a record $425 million after no one won Saturday’s drawing, a lottery official said on Sunday.

Iowa Lottery spokeswoman Mary Neubauer said the jackpot was $325 million for the drawing late on Saturday. Powerball has not had a winner for two months.

The $425 million record jackpot could be raised before Wednesday’s drawing since big payouts tend to spur sales, Neubauer said.

“We’ll watch sales to see if an adjustment upwards needs to be made,” she said. The cash payout will be a record $278.3 million.

The previous top Powerball prize was $365 million, won in 2006 by ConAgra slaughterhouse workers in Nebraska. The Powerball lottery is held in 42 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

In March, three winning tickets shared the largest U.S. lottery jackpot, the $656 million Mega Millions drawing

The winning Powerball numbers for Saturday were 22-32-37-44-50, and the Powerball was 34.

Razer DeathAdder mouse gets an update

Just how do you improve on something that is deemed to be already perfect? Well, I guess the answer is pretty simple – technology and time would have progressed to turn where what was perfect as obsolete, and here we are with an update of the Razer DeathAdder mouse which is touted to deliver additional power, superior performance as well as more control than ever before. The house of trusted and proven gaming peripherals, Razer, has just announced that they have delivered an update to the hugely popular Razer DeathAdder mouse, and it is being set for launch.

The first release of the Razer DeathAdder happened half a dozen years ago – which is a really, really long time in the world of technology. Well, until now, it has remained as the best-selling gaming mouse in the world, and has seen use by countless pro gamers throughout the years in the circuit as their preferred weapon of annihilation – or defense, depending on the situation, of course.

Well, the spanking new Razer DeathAdder’s optical sensor has been given a nice kick in the butt, where it has been upgraded from 3.5G all the way to a cutting-edge 4G infrared sensor. Needless to say, this upgrade would mean improved performance and precision, where it is touted to be the world’s most powerful optical sensor, being able to achieve up to 6400 dpi resolution without having to sacrifice the natural tracking feel of an optical sensor, and neither does it yield the robotic sensation of a comparable laser option.

Coming in its iconic right-handed ergonomic shape, this is definitely a drawback for southpaws. After all, only right handers are able to use the new DeathAdder (and the old, of course), but the hardware now features a built-in textured rubber side grips to deliver better mouse control and grip. Synapse 2.0 support has also been thrown into the mix, and the new Razer DeathAdder will retail for $69.99 if you live Stateside, or if you are residing across the pond, it will cost you €69.99.

The 12 Companies Paying Americans The Least: 24/7 Wall St.

The gap between rich and poor is well illustrated by the large multi-billion dollar corporations employing thousands of low-wage workers. With the Great Recession over, not only are many of these companies now hitting record profits, but their executive pay remains spectacularly high. Meanwhile, according to a report released by the National Employment Law Project, the current federal minimum wage the workers are often paid, is worth 30% less than it was in 1968 in terms of purchasing power.

Melissa Harris-Perry Criticizes Obama On Clemency By Way Of Turkey Pardon (VIDEO)

Melissa Harris-Perry criticized Obama on her Saturday MSNBC show by discussing his pardon of Cobbler the turkey for Thanksgiving.

In her signature “Open Letter” segment, Harris-Perry penned her first note to a non-human—Cobbler. Speaking to the pardoned turkey, Harris-Perry said that Obama “has been reluctant to use his pardoning power for humans,” which is something that the bird might not understand.

Since Obama took office, he has pardoned 22 individuals and denied 1,019. Obama has been described as “stingy” and “unusually reluctant” on pardons. Harris-Perry compared his track record to presidents past, highlighting how “Obama has approved only 2 percent of all requests processed by the Department of Justice.”

Eric Garcetti: Black Friday Reminds Us How to Get L.A. ‘Into the Black’

Black Friday may have just passed, but I wish Los Angeles were seeing more green today. The solution to our city’s budget shortfall is not to tax or cut, but to grow our economy. That’s why I’m leading the charge to eliminate Los Angeles’ gross-receipts tax on businesses.

Harold Washington Anniversary: 2012 Marks 25 Years Since Chicago Mayor’s Death (PHOTOS)

Twenty-five years ago Sunday, Harold Washington, Chicago’s first — and to date, only — African-American mayor, abruptly died of a heart attack shortly after his reelection to a second term.

Washington, whose 90th birthday would have been earlier this year, was a political figure who was larger than life and beloved by many. In their tribute, the Chicago Tribune describes Washington as both “a good government reformer in the classic sense of the term” and a visionary:

By giving Chicagoans across the city a voice, Washington set the tone for a new, more optimistic city and — even more important — turned its honeycomb of neighborhood groups into a force for improving the quality of local life.

Lindsey Graham: ‘I Will Violate The Pledge’ To Not Increase Taxes

WASHINGTON — Several congressional Republicans said Sunday that they would be open to increasing the amount of money the government collects in taxes, with a senior Republican member of the U.S. Senate going so far as to say he is willing to break his earlier promise to not support tax hikes in any form.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said he opposes raising income tax rates, but that he is open to increasing tax revenue by reducing the availability of deductions for things like charitable giving and mortgage interest. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) also said Sunday that he would support limiting deductions.

Doing so would violate Grover Norquist’s “Taxpayer Protection Pledge,” which both men have signed (as have most Republicans in Congress). Under the pledge, “candidates and incumbents solemnly bind themselves to oppose any and all tax increases,” according to the Americans for Tax Reform site.
