Smoking somewhere other than your couch can be such a drag. Cramming a pipe, lighter, poker, burnables, and grinder is too much for one’s pockets. But with the smoCAN, everything you need is consolidated in a single, secure case. More »
It Wouldn’t Be Black Friday Without Shoppers Fighting Over Cheap Electronics
Posted in: Today's ChiliIt’s ironic that Thanksgiving, a day for thinking about everything you have and being thankful for it, is sidled up right next to Black Friday, a day when people will trample each other to save a few bucks on electronics. Every year you hope it’s going to be different, and every year YouTube is flooded with videos of people at their worst.
Remember the Book Scarves? Well, now you can do more than just wear your favorite story around your neck.
If this campaign on Kickstarter gets, well, kick-started, you might soon be able to wear your favorite work of literature on your shirt. I’m talking about Litographs.
Printing the entire text of a literary masterpiece on an article of clothing isn’t exactly a new concept, but Litographs managed to take something that has already been done to a different level. Instead of just printing the text on the shirt, they’ve set it so that the cracks and spaces in between reveal an image that’s appropriate for the story.
Check out the gallery below for the first Litographs shirts that are going into production.
The project is currently up for funding on Kickstarter, where a minimum pledge of $30(USD) will get you one Litographs shirt of your choice. Contributing $25 more will get you one of Litographs’ prints to hang on your wall.
It’s the biggest shopping day of the year, and whether you started late last night, at the crack of dawn this morning, or waited until you awoke from your post-Thanksgiving stupor, we want to hear about the best bargain you found today. More »
[REVIEW] Synology DS413
Posted in: Today's ChiliIntroduction
A couple of weeks ago we got our hands on Synology’s latest product in the home user/SOHO segment: the DS413. This particular unit shares a lot of its design and internal structure with its more networking-potent big brother the DS412+. We have had the chance a couple of months ago to review the DS412+ so we can give you a heads up on how the 2 visually identical units perform. Yet here we are going to keep the main focus on “the little brother”.
Synology’s key …
While Black Friday might be the only day where brick-and-mortar stores see the rush of shoppers, online establishments have been feeling the rush all week long, with many online retailers starting their Black Friday deals at the beginning of the week. However, Thanksgiving Day saw the most mobile traffic ever when it comes to shopping.
It turns out, shopping from smartphones and tablets is becoming pretty popular, especially when you need to buy something and you don’t have a computer around. According to IBM Smarter Commerce, the number of consumers making Thanksgiving purchases from their mobile devices rose 65.3% from last year, mostly thanks to the rise in the number of mobile devices now being used around the world compared to last year.
Tablet users were big spenders on Thanksgiving, with iPad users specifically making up 10.7% of mobile shopping activity during the day. In total, internet retailers recorded 17.4% more sales on Thanksgiving Day compared with last year’s Thanksgiving, and that’s mostly due to the rise in mobile shopping.
Of course, smartphones have always been a great tool for comparing prices on items while you’re in the store, and if you find a better deal online, you usually wait to get home in front of your computer before you pull out the plastic. However, some users may not have been able to get up from the Thanksgiving dinner table and were forced to make that pre-Black Friday purchase under the table.

The Wii U has been available in US (we use the term “available” loosely, of course) for a little under a week, but folks in Europe are still waiting for the console to arrive. The Wii U is set to launch in Europe on Friday, November 30, and if you happen to live in London, you might want to stop by the launch event Nintendo is holding at HMV’s Oxford Street store. That’s because if you get there early enough, you might be able to snag a couple free games.
Eurogamer reports that the doors will open at 11 PM on November 29, and the first 100 Wii U purchasers in line will get two free games. These include New Super Mario Bros U and another game of your choice from a pre-determined selection of titles. If you don’t manage to snag one of the first 100 spots in line, don’t despair, because there will be goodies for other launch event attendees too.
For example, if you’re one of the next 100 people in line, HMV and Nintendo will give you £5 off the purchase price of Wii U hardware or software. The freebie isn’t nearly as good as two free games, but it’s better than nothing. Finally, the first 500 people in line will be taking home goodie bag full of mysterious presents. If you’re planning to pick up your Wii U and HMV’s Oxford Street store, it seems your chances of leaving the store with some free extras are pretty good.
There will also be playable demos of New Super Mario Bros U, ZombiU, and Nintendo Land at the launch event, so if you’re on the fence about which games to buy, you’ll at least be able to check out a few while you wait for sales to start. Here’s hoping that you get to take a console home with you, because if the Wii U’s European launch is anything like its North American launch, the console will sell out quickly. Are you buying a Wii U at launch?

If you’re not a morning person, or are dealing with a nasty hangover, the clinking sound of a spoon stirring a mug of coffee could drive you insane. And the fact that you can’t buy this clever Pegtop ridged mug that automatically stirs its contents when spun on a plate might annoy you even more. More »
Chewbacca Mona Lisa: DaVinci Had His Arms Ripped out of Their Sockets for This
Posted in: Today's ChiliChewbacca always seemed a little high-strung to me, but if this image is to believed, he had enough patience to sit still for his portrait to be painted by the great Leonardo DaVinci.
This hilarious mashup of Chewie and Mona Lisa, entitled Chewconda after the painting’s Italian name La Gioconda, was created by Stefano Gentile, and would look great hanging up on your wall alongside your prized Carbonite-framed Han Solo.
You can grab an 8″ x 10″ ($14) or an 11″ x 16″ ($18) digital print of Chewconda over on Etsy for $14(USD), or really splurge and grab the framed original 18″ x 24″ acrylic painting of Chewie for $469.
Black Friday shopping got out of hand at the Woodland Mall in Grand Rapids, Mich.
At least two teens were arrested following an altercation early Friday morning, Fox 17 reports.
It was a “chaotic scene” with people running and pepper spray being used, according to WoodTV.
