Instagram launches badges that webmasters can embed into their websites

You know those little badges you see on some websites that link you to the website’s Facebook page or Google+ page? Well it looks like Instagram will be getting a badge of their own. This will allow website owners to link their Instagram profiles on their website, which we guess is the follow up to the company launching web profiles not too long ago. Apparently many users have been requesting for them and with the launch of their new web profiles, it could be thought of as Instagram being something like Flickr in which users can show off their collection of photographs. According to Instagram’s Amy Cole (via TechCrunch):

We’re excited to launch Instagram badges today to make it even easier for people to find the Instagram profiles that they care about. Brands, businesses, and public figures have been asking us for badges for a long time. Now that Instagram web profiles are available to everyone, it made sense for us to launch badges and give people a way to easily access the profiles from other sites across the web.

Also as TechCrunch has noted, this move will help Instagram get out of the pigeon hole in which many have assumed that it is only a mobile app, when in reality it looks like it will be making its mark on the desktop as well.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City 10th Anniversary Edition coming to iOS and Android December 6

For gamers who have enjoyed the mobile Grand Theft Auto (GTA) experience on their mobile devices with GTA 3, Rockstar has announced that GTA: Vice City 10th Anniversary Edition will be launching on both iOS and Android devices come 6th of December and it will be priced at a modest $4.99 for either platform. The 10th Anniversary Edition of Vice City will introduce native high-resolution graphics with several enhancements designed for iOS and Android in mind. This includes updated character models and lighting effects and given that this is a ten year old game after all, we guess these enhancements would be something to look forward to. A new trailer is expected to be launched in the weeks ahead but for now, you can mark the 6th of December down on your calendars. As far as compatibility is concerned, according to Rockstar’s blog: (more…)

Google brings indoor maps to desktop web browsers

Google brings indoor maps to desktop web browsers

It may not be quite as practical as the mobile version if you find yourself lost in the mall this holiday season, but those looking to plan their shopping route ahead of time can now finally take advantage of Google’s indoor maps in their desktop web browser. That new addition, just rolled out today, does come with a bit of a catch, though: the desktop version of indoor maps is only offering the main floor of buildings for the time being, with no word yet on when the ability to view additional levels will be added (something that can currently be done in the Android app). Of course, the availability of indoor maps is still quite a bit more limited than some of Google’s other map offerings, but it does now include over 10,000 floor plans in a number of different countries.

Fourth Doctor My Little Pony Plush: Friendship is Jelly Babies

Hasbro really needs to start licensing more characters in its My Little Pony series. Just imagine how awesome a Doctor Who collection would be, as evidenced by this fourth Doctor My Little Pony plush made by Lilmoon on DeviantArt.
doctor who little pony

This pony is perfect, featuring the Doctor’s signature scarf, hat and even an hourglass cutie mark. This was a special commission for some lucky person in Australia. Lilmoon says that the pony was easy to make, but the accessories took more time to come up with. The scarf and hat are both removable, which is nice if he regenerates and has to change his wardrobe.

I’m no Brony myself, but I would love to have this guy in my Doctor Who collection.

Sony rumored to have three full frame camera prototypes in the works

We reported not too long ago that Sony was rumored to be working on a mysterious new camera and that the company was expected to debut new Alpha cameras at CES 2013. The folks at Sony Alpha Rumors are back with another tip and this time they claim that according to their sources, Sony has three new full frame camera prototypes in the works. Instead of each prototype being deviations of each other, their sources have informed them that each prototype is completely different and are not three versions of the same concept. We’re not sure if all three prototypes will make it to a possible announcement at CES 2013, but it seems that some lucky photographers have already begun testing it in the field already, with one of the cameras tentatively being named the A1x. In any case this is merely a rumor at this point with not much to go on, so do take it with a grain of salt but with CES 2013 only a couple of months away, we guess we won’t have long to wait to see if it pans out.

Nokia Lumia 920 goes up against a car, a bat and a lamp post in durability test

Nokia’s phones have been used in internet culture to resemble just how tough the Finnish company’s phones are, most notably the 3310 back in the day. Now with the Lumia 920, does it actually live up to the 3310’s fabled durability? We’ve see the Lumia 920 being put through the ringer by the folks at PhoneBuff and it looks like they’re back with the third and final installment of the Lumia 920 durability test. Now there’s nothing scientific about their testing but it’s still pretty entertaining nonetheless. Basically in this new video they decided to run the Lumia 920 over with a car, smack it with a piece of wood like they would with a baseball, and throw it away the concrete base of a lamp post which finally managed to crack the screen. We’re not sure if anyone will ever need to put their Lumia 920 through those situations, but it’s still comforting to Lumia 920 owners to know that by the looks of things, their phone will be able to survive some light abuse and come away relatively unscathed.

Nokia gifts irate Best Buy customer with an early Christmas present

As some of you guys are aware by now, the Nokia Lumia 920 is selling pretty well, with the phone topping Amazon’s Best Seller charts and such, and given that this is Nokia’s flagship device, we guess the Finnish company is trying to do everything they can to make it a success, so much so that they have responded to an irate customer by sending him some extra goodies to make up for the frustration. Basically what happened was a customer placed his pre-order for the Lumia 920 on Best Buy but the phone was shown as “Backordered” up until this weekend.

Attempts to reach out to Best Buy failed and he was given the run around, so he finally reached out to Nokia’s CEO, Stephen Elop, hoping that he would do something about it. Surprisingly Elop replied his email by saying his team would be looking into the issue. As it turns out, Best Buy cancelled both his first and second order although we’re not sure why. Nokia’s head of marketing Matt Rothschild then gave him a call informing him that they were sending him his phone along with a few goodies – we’re not sure what exactly is in the package but according to his UPS tracking information, the package being sent over weighs about 9lbs, and as heavy as the Lumia 920 is, we’re pretty sure it’s not 9lbs!
