Amazon offers Unity plug-ins to Kindle Fire devs, makes in-app payments possible

Amazon adds Unity plugins for Kindle Fire devs, makes inapp payments possible

Game devs looking to enhance “engagement” (read: monetization) for their mobile titles now have an ally in Amazon. The Bezos-backed company has just made plug-ins available free to Kindle Fire developers using the popular Unity game engine. Now those devs will have access to APIs for In-Game purchasing and GameCircle which, in the latter case, allows for the addition of Achievements, as well as the ability to Whispersync across devices. So, what does this mean for you, the end user? Well, aside from the ability to continue playing from where you last left off on any of the company’s tabs, it also brings mobile gaming that much closer to the console experience. But mostly that you can look forward to a future bill filled with micropayments.

Lakers Beat Nets 95-90, Win Mike D’Antoni’s Debut

LOS ANGELES — Although Mike D’Antoni still can’t jump, pivot or move on his surgically replaced knee with his usual enthusiasm, he felt plenty strong enough to start work with the Los Angeles Lakers.

D’Antoni also knows it’s usually quite comfortable to be Kobe Bryant’s coach.

Intellipaper USB Paper Drive

Talk about going green – USB flash drives that are not exactly the most environmentally friendly kind of devices to carry around, could potentially stumble upon a savior should the Indiegogo project of the Intellipaper take off successfully. Basically, Intellipaper intends to be a USB flash drive, where it carries a memory chip embedded within a sheet of paper. This not only further minimizes the overall dimensions, but is also foldable will be as thin as a sheet of card stock for that added touch of portability.

The Intellipaper will not come up short in terms of what a standard issue flash drive delivers, but you can also mail it as part of a postcard, now how about that? Since most of the drive itself (save for the memory chip) is made out of paper, our landfills need not have to worry about being filled up with toxic plastic once you are done with it. The Intellipaper Indiegogo project hopes to gather $300,000 in order to start production of the eponymous USB drive.

Nokia Lumia 920 Sold Out Virtually Everywhere

Nokia Lumia 920 Review

Facebook is nice, but slower when compared to the iPhone

Nokia might at long last have a hit on their hands – and in the hands of many people who have already picked up the Lumia 920, which we have already posted a review of it as well. It seems that should you want to purchase the Lumia 920 in a myriad of colors from Amazon’s mobile store, you would be faced with a delay that ranges anywhere from one all the way to a couple of weeks. Of course, the situation is no better on AT&T’s website as well, where the only Lumia 920 model which is not listed as ‘Out of Stock’ would be the white colored version.

This bodes well for Microsoft as well, as it shows that the market is open to Windows Phone 8 – assuming that the other factor of Nokia churning out enough units of the Lumia 920 to meet anticipated market demand is not a paltry sum. Well, the Lumia 920 does see stiff competition on paper from HTC’s 8X handset , but it seems that the Lumia 920 has enough firepower in its hardware to deliver strongly among the average consumer. Let us sit tight and see where this adventure ends up in.

Yemen Plane Crash: Military Aircraft Crashes Into Sanaa Market, Killing 10

SANAA, Yemen (AP) — A Yemeni military plane crashed early Wednesday during training over the capital, Sanaa, killing all 10 people on board, security officials said.

The Russian-made Antonov aircraft plunged from the sky and crashed into an empty market in al-Hassaba district at the heart of the Yemeni capital, destroying several shops, the officials said. The market has been abandoned since clashes between the country’s biggest tribal confederation and security forces in the area during last year’s uprising.

The officials said the pilot tried to make an emergency landing after one of the plane’s engines failed, but instead, the plane crashed and caught fire. The victims included the pilots and crew members, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media. Ambulances and fire engines rushed to the crash site.

Blood Pressure Monitor Loses Cuff

The Nihon University has come up with a spanking new kind of blood pressure meter which is capable of measuring one’s blood pressure simply by touching it with a finger. First displayed at Medica 2012 in Dusseldorf, Germany, this particular blood pressure monitor will measure your blood pressure sans the traditional cuff, meaning it is a whole lot easier to deliver readings of blood pressures of babies and elderly people. All it requires is for one to touch a button-shaped small area on the meter, where embedded LEDs and photo transistors in the area will get to work – the former emits light that is then reflected on a finger, where the photo transistors will take over from there and detect whatever reflected light.

There was no disclosure on the measurement method’s details, but it was mentioned that the blood pressure meter was developed based on a technology which is known as “Phase Shift Method”, thanks to the hard work of Sadao Omata, professor at the College of Engineering, Nihon University. The Phase Shift Method does not need any external power supply, and it drives a system by using sensed signals.

‘New Girl’: Jamie Lee Curtis And Rob Reiner Are Jess’ Divorced Parents, Who Still Have Great Chemistry (VIDEO)

So how did Jess become the way she is on “New Girl“? The show introduced her divorced parents for its Thanksgiving episode to offer up some insight. Rob Reiner and Jamie Lee Curtis showed great chemistry in the rolls, enjoying a little bit of frisky time on more than one occasion.

Jess tried to sort of “Parent Trap” them — which in this case meant tricking them into showing up at the same time and then trying to orchestrate a rekindling of their feelings for one another. After Jess and Nick accidentally sprayed turkey juice all over her father, her mother stepped in to clean it up.

But once in the bathroom, one thing proved true. They may not have the same feelings for one another, but they clearly have the same passions. Jess mistakenly thought this meant her “Trap” worked, so they had to clear the air. At least they seemed able to get along, which is an improvement over how they used to be.

Tablet maker Pandigital no longer offering warranty replacements, reminds us it’s now out of business

Tablet maker Pandigital no longer offering warranty replacements, reminds us it's now out of business

To be completely fair, Pandigital officially called it quits back in July of this year, when it handed the remaining of its assets to a liquidator in order to comply with the don’t-call-it-a-bankruptcy process. Now, however, the creator of that 7-inch Novel slate has been contacting former customers — that are experiencing tablet woes — to let them know it will no longer be able to offer such customer service, noting that “due to this liquidation process any further requests for warranty replacements cannot be honored.” Given its earlier filing with the Credit Management Association, the notice doesn’t exactly strike us a surprise, but it does tell us not to expect the Supernova maker to splash a comeback any time soon. You’ll find the original email sent to troubled customers right after the break.

Due to this liquidation process any further requests for warranty replacements cannot be honored.

Please be advised that Pandigital, Inc (the ‘Company’), executed a General Assignment for the benefit of its creditors in favor of Credit Management Association on July 13, 2012 (the ‘General Assignment’). A general assignment is a common law means of concluding the affairs of an insolvent debtor as an alternative to the Chapter 7 bankruptcy process. Pandigital is currently in the process of liquidation by the Assignee.

You are receiving this email as you have recently been shipped a warranty replacement for a Pandigital product.

Asus Confirms Android 4.2 Update For Tablets

Asus logoAsus has a pretty good track record when it comes to rolling out the latest Android operating system updates for their range of devices so far, and it seems that the company does not want to tarnish such a record by confirming that they are currently working on Android 4.2 updates to be released for their tablets in due time. So far, this bit of news hails from a couple of Dutch-based websites, but any more specific information remains off limits to us.

Needless to say, it does not come as a surprise to us to hear that Asus Transformer Prime TF201 would be first in line to pick up the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update, and Asus did say that this particular tablet will be on the receiving end of the tablet “soon”. There was no mention of other specific tablets by Asus other than the Transformer Prime TF201, but fret not – Asus did give their word that they are working on a similar update for the rest of its stable of tablets.
