Android 4.2 Flaw Deletes December… You’re a Mean One, Mister Grinch.

If you happen to have a birthday to remember during the month of December, Android has done you a favor and deleted the month for you. Apparently, there is a bug in Android 4.2 Jelly Bean that affects the People app preventing you from selecting the month of December. The People app is the default application that Android uses for storing information about contacts, and uses a date picker for storing birthdays.

In short, the flaw has completely deleted the month of December from its date picker, skipping from November directly to January. This could be The Grinch’s most fiendish plot ever. Both the Grinch and the Android mascot are green. Coincidence? I think not.

The flaw was first discovered by users who have the new Nexus 4 smartphone or the Nexus 10 tablet that went on sale last week. Google hasn’t offered official comment on the flaw just yet. If you have to keep track of birthdays during the month of December, you’ll want to enter them directly into the Calendar app until Google issues a fix.

These Star Wars Movies Are Your The-Way-Lucas-Wanted-Them Deal of the Day

Some people will never consider the recent Star Wars Blu-rays to be the “true” Star Wars. To them, the only real copy of a Star Wars movie is either a Super 8 cam of opening night in 1977 or a flawless rip of an only-in-Myanmar Laserdisc. But to young Padawans, and people who eschew 70s nostalgia, these Blu-rays could be your personal canon. It’s Star Warsin glorious high definition—plus tons of extra content and special features. And Amazon’s got the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy for only $30 each. Those are the lowest prices they’ve ever been at: back when they came out, we considered $45 a box set cheap. More »

Republic Wireless opens up its network to everyone

If you’re tried of paying an arm and a leg for mobile service, you might want to give Republic Wireless a try. We heard about the new wireless service late last year, and now Republic has opened up pre-orders for the Motorola DEFY XT. You can order up to four devices starting today, and they’ll begin shipping in mid-December.

Of course, one of the big draws of Republic is its mobile plan. Republic charges a flat rate of $19 per month for unlimited talk, text, and data, which gained a lot of attention back when the service first launched. Today, however, is the day that Republic service becomes available for everyone, so you’re free to sign up whenever you like.

The Motorola DEFY XT will set you back $249 if you’re going through Republic, so the initial payment isn’t exactly going to be cheap. There’s also an extra $10 service fee on top of that, which includes shipping and handling for your phone. Your first $19 monthly fee will be charged once your phone ships next month, so by the time you get your phone in the mail, you’ll be out $278 – and that’s if you only order one phone.

Still, that hefty initial payment might be worth it when you consider that you’ll only be paying $19 per month from there on out. For unlimited talk, text, and data, that’s a pretty significant discount over the major carriers (most of which aren’t offering actual unlimited plans anymore), so Republic might be worth checking out. Do you think you’ll give Republic Wireless a spin now that it’s open to everyone, or will you be sticking with your current carrier?

GOProud, Gay Republican Group, Offers Twinkies For Donations As Potential Snack Shortage Looms

GOProud, a conservative gay group, moved quickly to capitalize on the news that there may soon be a Twinkies shortage. Mere hours after news of Hostess Inc.’s impending liquidation, GOProud sent out a press release offering boxes of Twinkies to donors who contribute at least $50 to the organization between now and the end of November.

“You know that our staff at GOProud works every day to promote free-market principles and freedom for everyone,” the release, which was sent out on Friday, reads, according to BuzzFeed. “You may not know about our special emergency response squad. This morning when the news broke, they sprung into action and secured a supply of the coveted snack cakes. We now have a stash of Twinkies in the GOProud vault. You have a chance to take advantage of our quick response to this crisis.”

While shoppers flooded Twitter with stockpiling plans and hoarding tips, this may be the first political group to trade Twinkies for contributions.

PS Vita Firmware 2.0 Update

Sony will be rolling out the PS Vita firmware 2.0 update tomorrow (for folks living in Europe, you will have to hold out your patience for an extra day), where one of the biggest changes would be a drastically improved web browsing experience. To be more exact, it seems that the browser itself will come with a “small app”, allowing you to use it while you play games, without requiring you to quit your game at that point in time. Not only that, the entire browsing experience itself will also be a whole lot speedier. Last but not least, we do know that PlayStation Plus, too, will roll out alongside the update, and this translates to “free” games for you – with other features thrown into the mix, of course. By the way, if you are a PS Vita owner, are you still rocking on to your PS Vita, or is it lost somewhere in your home, gathering colonies of dust bunnies along the way?

Charlize Theron’s Shaved Head Makes An Appearance In South Africa (PHOTO)

It’s been five months, but Charlize Theron is still sporting that shaved head.

The actress, 37, was spotted eating lunch with her mom, Gerda, at Cafe Caprice on Nov. 16, in Cape Town, South Africa, flaunting the brown buzz cut she got for the upcoming film “Mad Max: Fury Road.” The cast and crew is filming the flick’s final scenes in Cape Town.

If there’s anyone who can rock a closely cropped ‘do, it’s Charlize! Bald and beautiful.

Tulsi Gabbard, First Hindu Elected To Congress, Will Swear In On Bhagavad Gita, Sacred Hindu Text

When Tulsi Gabbard, a Hawaii resident who made history this month at the first Hindu elected to Congress, attends her swearing in ceremony in January, she’s poised to mark another first in American politics: Gabbard will take her oath over the Bhagavad Gita, a sacred Hindu text.

While no religious ceremony is legally required for those elected to Congress and the Senate, many choose to take oaths of office over Christian and Jewish texts, and Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison, a Muslim, took his oath over a Quran. But Gabbard’s use of a non-Abrahamic text will be unique and is symbolic of the growing religious diversity of Congress.

“For the Hindu Americans it is a historic moment … It is a matter of pride that finally someone not only from our own faith, but someone who is a practicing Hindu, will be sworn in the Congress on one of our most sacred books,” said Anju Bhargava, founder of Hindu American Seva Charities and a former member of the White House’s Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.
