Robert Barnett, David Petraeus Lawyer, Known For Working With Political Elite

By Jessica Dye

Nov 18 (Reuters) – Former CIA Director General David Petraeus has hired a top Washington lawyer to help him navigate the fallout from a career-ending affair, Reuters has confirmed.

The lawyer, Robert Barnett of Williams & Connolly, is known for negotiating book deals for the political elite, from President Barack Obama to one-time vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

Barnett will help Petraeus as he exits government, Reuters confirmed. The news was first reported by Politico, which said that no book is planned.

The Central Intelligence Agency, the Justice Department and Congress are investigating Petraeus’ conduct over the extra-marital affair with his biographer, Paula Broadwell.

The former four-star general has said his resignation was solely because of the affair and that he did not give classified information to Broadwell.

Barnett has been a partner at Williams & Connolly in Washington for 34 years, according to a biography of him posted on the firm’s website. In that time, he has built an unconventional practice representing best-selling authors, political leaders, television news correspondents and other high-profile clients.

In addition to Obama and Palin, other authors he has represented include novelist Mary Higgins Clark and entertainer Barbra Streisand.

He has also helped former government officials from across the political spectrum navigate their return to private life, including former U.S. presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, former secretary of state Madeleine Albright, and former members of Congress.

He joined Williams & Connolly in 1975 and became a partner in 1978.

Cordova, Alabama Blames FEMA For Slow Tornado Response

CORDOVA, Ala. — Main Street in this old mill town looks about the same as it did the day after tornadoes killed about 250 people across Alabama a year and a half ago: Battered red bricks and broken glass litter the pavement, and the buildings still standing are rickety and roofless.

The entire one-block downtown, still deemed unsafe, remains sealed off by a chain-link fence. City officials blame the Federal Emergency Management Agency, saying the money to demolish skeletons of the old buildings is mired in miles of red tape.

Halo Fan Made Kat Armor is out of This Reach

The cool and detailed armor of characters from the Halo universe means it’s quite hard to emulate them in cosplay. Unless you happen to be a pale, short-haired 6’7″ 287 lb. male, in which case you can just come as yourself and say you’re John-117. A cosplayer going by the handle LilTyrant decided to dress up as Kat, and that’s exactly what she did.

For reference, IGN’s Halo Wiki has a screenshot of Kat, who as many of you know is from Halo: Reach. Note that LilTyrant’s costume doesn’t have Kat’s helmet cam and tactical case, but she did say she’ll those later on. We’ll cut her some slack because she wanted to finish this by Halloween, she said she’s still “new to armor making” and because the costume is freakin’ awesome.

Unlike most cosplayers I’ve seen, LilTyrant was kind – and obsessed – enough to document practically every step she took to make her armor. She doesn’t just dress as Kat, she’s as smart as Kat. Head to the 405th Infantry Division to see her guide. Microsoft should hire her to make cosplay versions of the Halo 4 armor.

Formula 1’s on-board cameras may switch to HD next season

Formula 1's onboard cameras may switch to HD next season

As we enjoy our first F1 action in the US since 2007 we’re glad that it’s in HD this time, however it still falling short in one area — in-car camera shots. Although the racing series belatedly made the jump to high definition broadcasts last year, protests from the teams over weight and space issues caused it to stick with standard-definition cameras for the on-board shots. Now that a couple of years have passed and presumably the technology has improved, that may be addressed next year, at the same time US broadcasts of the series move from Speed/Fox to NBC Sports. Formula One Supporters Association caught up to F1 journalist Christian Sylt who got a peek at future plans that include the possibility of HD in-car cameras, multi-channel formats offering different views of the track and an interactive 3D replay feature. We’ll have to wait and see how much — if any — of that is actually implemented any time soon, but if you’d like to check out the technology in use today, Speed TV has a live stream from several of the cars currently racing around the Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas.

‘The Californians’ On SNL: Jeremy Renner Guest Stars As Lawyer In Thanksgiving Episode (VIDEO)

Call us crazy, but after four installments of “The Californians,” SNL’s parody of the Los Angeles lifestyle, we’re starting to feel invested in the one-dimensional characters and the tissue-thin plot line.

In this week’s very special Thanksgiving episode, tensions erupt when Stuart finds Devon the handyman in a liplock with Rosa the maid. At first, Stuart makes it seem as if he’s just looking out for Rosa’s best interests — after all, Devon has broken hearts in Rancho Cucamonga, San Bernardino and Redondo Beach. But when Stuart inadvertently reveals that he knows the location of Rosa’s home in Angelino Heights, it becomes all too clear that his anger is rooted in jealousy.

SNL host Jeremy Renner guest stars in the sketch as Stuart’s lawyer, and he pulls off a mouthful of a “Californian” monologue:

Jeffrey Lawrence: It’s Mutual Aid, Stupid

Within the first week of setting up camp in Zucotti Park, people in Occupy started talking about the importance of systems of “mutual aid” rather than systems of “charity.” Charity means: “I’m fine, so I’ll give you something.” Mutual aid means: “We’re all in this together, so let’s help each other out.”
