Joe Simpson has pleaded no contest in his drunken driving case and will serve three years of probation and attend an alcohol-education class. The father of Ashlee and Jessica Simpson entered the plea to one misdemeanor count through his attorney on Tuesday, according to court papers released Friday. A second count was dismissed.
If you’re not all about science, its time you turned right around – because the Nexus 4 being torn down by iFixit to see what LG has brought to the party is all about how much science they can pack in its innards. It begins with a note that the LG Nexus 4 (see our full review here) isn’t exactly made to be taken apart – not by the average citizen – but that if you do want to fix it up, you’ll probably be able to without too much trouble. It all begins with a couple T5 Torx screws and a prying of the back from the front.
The back of the device is a beastly amalgamation of components not often seen in a battery cover. Of course since it’s not technically just a battery cover, but half the device, not meant to be removed by just anyone, it makes a whole lot of sense. This half of the device has a set of pressure contacts that power the NFC antenna and connect to the induction coil needed for wireless charging to the motherboard.
The battery sits in the front half of the device and is held down with a large amount of adhesive – not meant to be removed, ever. The folks at iFixit do remove the battery, but warn that you’ll not want to be a first-timer if you plan on making it work for yourself. The speaker enclosure, on the other hand, is held in place with two screws and no cables, working with spring contacts that make replacing it perfectly simple.
The back-facing camera is labeled as AC2AD D5A261, the motherboard contains Toshiba THGBM5G6A2JBA1R 8GB Flash and Samsung K3PE0E00A 2GB RAM. Imagine that – a big mix! For those of you that do not check the innards of your devices up-close very often, this isn’t out of the ordinary at all. It’s a team effort!
Also inside you’ll find a lovely Qualcomm WTR1605L Seven-Band 4G LTE chip. This does not mean that the device here is capable of working with a 4G LTE mobile network – it only means that, as you’ve seen with the LG Optimus G (with much of the same gear inside), Qualcomm’s setup is capable of 4G LTE where specified. We’ll see if this means that Verizon or AT&T will be running up with their own LG Nexus 4 with 4G LTE in the future – it’d require just a few hardware tweaks, and as we know from the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, it’s not out of the question that a carrier-based “Nexus” device would exist.

People everywhere are having to cook a delicious meal for a bunch of greedy mouths this upcoming Thanksgiving, but don’t crack under the pressure. Don’t crack, friends, because you don’t need to hold all of that weight yourselves – I have a couple of tips to give! (Also, you’re not an egg, no matter what your body shape may tell you.) The first is to tell all of your relatives that they should arrive at a time that is two hours before the actual time. This way, they are obligated to help you cook! The second is to just buy some Boston Market and then deem it homemade.
These Thanksgiving Dinner Cupcakes are another perfect way to shirk your duties, if you’re lazy like I am, but they’re also a perfect addition to any hard-planned Thanksgiving meal. As most of us know, dessert is the most important part anyway. That’s why I just eat it first and second.
These cupcakes look delicious on several different levels – sweet potato cupcakes? AM I IN HEAVEN? There’s a wonderful tutorial available on Make.Bake.Celebrate, the home of food geniuses, but you don’t need to look at that. Just have someone else make them so that you can act as the professional “food tester.” You know, just to make sure they’re not poisoned. WHAT IF THEY POISONED THEM IN BETWEEN BITES? I guess I’ll just have to eat all of them to make sure.
These cupcakes are great, but there are definitely more to be found, since you can never have enough of this wonderful creation. Check out the Frankenweenie Cupcakes and the Fried Cupcake Nuggets, which make me drool all over myself.

Do us a favor this holiday season. Keep your head screwed on straight. And don’t buy electronics from strangers in gas station parking lots.

The Shot Flask
Posted in: Today's ChiliYou can shoot from the hip – without harming anyone in the process other than your liver, of course, and when you have drunk enough, it is time for you to shoot from the mouth as well. The £19.99 Shot Flask is nothing quite like a hip flask. It oozes with class, and sure as heck beats carrying a keg on your shoulder, where the latter is definitely far from being subtle, and it just makes your entire look so unrefined.
Of course, that is not all, the Shot Flask itself is a gorgeous, leather-wrapped, stainless-steel hip flask. It sports a collapsible 60ml metal shot glass which is carried within the flask itself, thanks to a recess that has been carved out on the the flask. At first glance, it does look as though it is an embossed badge, where the shot glass will pop out and extend telescopically so that you end up with a solid 60ml cup. This allows you to share a toast with the rest of your mates – ideal when your favorite sports team wins, or for you to drown your sorrows in them. All without having to worry about any mess whatsoever to clean up after that.

I’ve known for the last couple of years that my home scale is a bit off, so I wonder if an expensive digital scale will do better. The idea of a smartphone-connected scale isn’t something new, but Withings new scale looks pretty spiffy and it’s supported by plenty of apps to help you keep track of your weight.
The Withings WS-30 Wireless Scale is thinner and $30 cheaper than than the original model. It also adds Bluetooth 4.0 in addition to 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, in order to track your weight and Body Mass Index (BMS) via the free Withings app – or you can shuttle data to the other 60+ fitness apps that support it. Each time you use it, it automatically syncs and uploads your data. It also automatically calibrates itself when you’re away, and offers position detection for highly-accurate measurement.
The Withings WS-30 sells for $129.95(USD) and will allow you to keep to a fitness or weight-loss program easily.

Apple is notifying OS X Lion users that the platform’s preview of Messages will end on December 14th. Originally available as a free beta download for Lion 10.7, Messages went on to become an official feature of Mountain Lion 10.8. Obtained by Cult of Mac, the email from Apple advises that in order to continue using Messages, you’ll need to upgrade to Mountain Lion. While it’s saddening to have pay for an app that you’re accustomed to having for free, keep in mind that this was only a preview. Besides, the upgrade to Mountain Lion is $20 and if you can afford any of Apple’s products, we’re pretty sure that this expense won’t be too much of a stretch. Be sure to take a look at the email in question after the break, because it could be lurking somewhere in your junk mail folder.

Airport security used to be simple—pack your own bags, keep them in your possession, board your flight. Easy, right? However, since 9/11, Americans have been treated to a complicated and confusing rendition of public security absurdity. More »
World’s Largest Jigsaw Puzzle
Posted in: Today's ChiliThere are jigsaw puzzles, and then there are jigsaw puzzles. What you see here is touted to be the World’s Largest Jigsaw Puzzle, and it definitely does not come across as cheap, either, considering how you will need to fork out a rather hefty $299.95 for this puppy. To literally put things into perspective, the World’s Largest Jigsaw Puzzle measures more than 17 feet long and 6 feet wide, and has been recognized as so by the Guinness Book of World Records. Just how many pieces of manic puzzle solving do you need to go through before it is completed?
We are looking at 32,256 pieces, where the entire jigsaw puzzle will tip the scales at 42 lbs., and to make life a wee bit easier for you, it will be accompanied by its very own hand truck. Made by Ravensburger, the very same crafters of fine German puzzles since 1891, these jigsaw pieces are definitely hardy and of high quality, being made from 1/16″-thick cardboard with glare-free linen-structured paper and cut using hand-crafted tools. The result? Smooth, dust free pieces which fit together – perfectly. When completed, the puzzle shows a retrospective of world-renowned pop artist Keith Haring’s ebullient, graffiti-based art.
