Black Ops 2 Earns $500 Million In A Day

Video games have already started to outearn movies for some time already, and just in case you need more proof, here we are with word that Black Ops 2 has earned more dough compared to Black Ops 1 and Modern Warfare 3 – in fact, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 managed to pull in over $500 million in revenue, and this magical figure was achieved during the first 24 hours after it has gone on sale. This also meant that the total Call of Duty sales have also surpassed previously untouchable box office takings of the whole Harry Potter and Star Wars movie franchises.

Activision Blizzard CEO, Bobby Kotick, said, “With first day sales of over half a billion dollars worldwide, we believe Call of Duty is the biggest entertainment launch of the year for the fourth year in a row.” Modern Warfare 3 did not fare too shabbily itself, where it was tipped to have moved 6.5 million units while raking in $400 million worth of revenue, all within the first 24 days of going on sale. We still have no idea on how many actual Black Ops 2 units were sold, so hopefully Activision will release the official figure in due time. Were you one of those who contributed to Activision’s coffers?

Wii U TVii App Gets US December Launch

The Nintendo Wii U is said to arrive at retail stores throughout the US on Sunday, and it will not only come packaged with 29 games throughout the launch period alongside a bunch of other digital titles, but gamers will also be able to take advantage of Video on Demand services. This is made possible thanks to its TVii application which will arrive later in the year. Nintendo said that weeks after the Wii U is released, gamers of the platform will be able to take advantage of services such as Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, and Hulu Plus.

Apart from that, you are able to view YouTube videos as well as channels thanks to a dedicated YouTube application, and this will include other functions such as being able to sign in to your account, as well as engage with other Wii U users via TV shows, movies and sports. This certainly delivers a far more social aspect compared to regular video games, don’t you think so? Nintendo said, “Nintendo TVii makes watching TV simple and fun by bringing together a program guide, remote control and social interaction into one, seamless second-screen experience on the GamePad.”

Seagate Wireless Plus Drive Hits The FCC

The FCC has another gizmo that they can play with – the Seagate Wireless Plus Drive, where it has suddenly made an appearance at the US agency without any prior announcement. Just what can we tell about the Seagate Wireless Plus Drive? For starters, it will carry 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connectivity as well as a considerably slicker aesthetics which will surely be pleasing to the eye.

Other than that, there are not that many more details that we can work on, although there was the quick start guide which clearly stated that the Wireless Plus will remain centered on Android and iOS device owners who have this urge to stream media beyond what’s on their internal memory. The clearance from the FCC did not reveal any additional clues as to the amount of storage space it has, and neither do we know when a ship date is on the horizon, but one thing we do know is this – whenever a device hits the FCC, it does not take too long before it arrives on the market. Stay tuned!

GM promises two new smartphone apps to help keep your EV charged

GM promises two new smartphone apps to help you charge your EV

GM has already released an OnStar app that extends smartphone control to a range of vehicles, but it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that it has bigger mobile plans than that. It’s now announced two new apps designed for EV owners — one that will let you help find EV chargers on your route, and another that will let you pay for the charge with your phone. The first of those is an update to OnStar’s existing RemoteLink app (presumably for both iOS and Android), which will be getting a new Spark EV Waypoint tab that’ll let you enter a destination and then have a route configured that ensures you won’t be stuck miles from the nearest charging station. GM says it will be available in time for the launch of the 2014 Spark EV. The second app, dubbed Park-Tap-Charge at the moment, is apparently still in the prototype stage, but GM promises that it will let you use your NFC-equipped smartphone to pay directly at the charging station, and also check information like the hourly rate of charging or the estimated time for a full charge before you pay. No word yet on when it will be available, though.

AT&T Announces iPad mini Availability

Yes, we did mention that Sprint will be offering the iPad mini, and it seems to us that AT&T themselves do not want to miss out on the action as well by announcing that they too, will be offering the spanking new iPad mini as well as fourth generation iPad. These new iPads will be accompanied by what AT&T hopes are a host of attractive data plans, so that potential customers will be able to hook up to the US’s largest 4G network to their hearts’ content.

Which camp are you on – AT&T or Sprint, and just which model of the iPad would you pick up? Do you want to go for something smaller in size, although it will have a far lower resolution compared to the Retina Display on the larger sized iPad? Or perhaps you figured out that the iPad mini’s display is far too small for your liking, and you would be able to do better in terms of work as well as entertainment with the fourth generation iPad. Go ahead and take your pick, I am quite sure if you are an Apple fan, it does not really matter too much just which iPad model you select. [Press Release]

Meizu MX2 Spotted?

Meizu does seem all set to make an announcement of the Meizu MX successor later this month, but some enterprising folks have managed to get a hold of hands-on images, leaking them to the Internet, of course, and creating quite the buzz along the way. It does seem as though the Meizu MX2 will do away with the overall design that tends to resemble that of the iPhone, in order to gain a character that it can call its own. You will no longer find any more physical controls located below the display, where these have been replaced by the now standard on-screen Android navigation controls.

Not only that, the display aspect ratio is no doubt very different at first glance. Meizu has decided to stick to the 3:2 display which is similar to what the iPhone has, although the resolution count seemed to have bumped up to 1280 x 768 from 960 x 640 pixels – which is always a good thing. Expect the Meizu MX2 to be powered by a quad-core processor, in addition to running Meizu’s Flyme skin on top of Android, which we hope it will be Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The Meizu MX2 will be announced in China officially this coming November 27th.

Korea is Flush with Happiness with Their New Toilet-Themed Park

Cartoon characters and movies are common subjects for theme parks. Household objects are a stretch. But toilets? Now this is definitely a first. A new theme park was recently erected in Suwon, South Korea and it celebrates toilets. I think that much is clear from the image of the park that you see here.

Toilet ParkIt’s called the Restroom Cultural Park and serves as Suwon’s tribute to its loo-loving former mayor, Sim Jae-duck. Apparently, Sim’s love for toilets began when he was a wee child, having been born in a toilet himself.

Throughout his term, Sim promoted public facilities while he was in office. He eventually went on to found the World Toilet Association.

Sim might have gone on to the other side (he passed away in 2009), but his legacy and love for toilets will forever be remembered and celebrated with this theme park.

Samsung 1080p Super AMOLED Display Rumor

At this time of the year, we can only start salivating at the different kinds of gizmos that are being prepared for CES as well as smartphones coming your way at MWC next year, as both events are set to happen within the first two months of 2013. Well, there are whispers that Samsung might just release a new 1080p Super AMOLED display sometime next year, where it will come with 5” of viewing real estate, in addition to a stunning 441ppi pixel density that will surely be able to rival the HTC Droid DNA.

Needless to say, this particular 1080p Super AMOLED display looks set to make an appearance on the potential next flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S4. No idea on whether this is a PenTile or an RGB matrix display, but rumors have it that it will enter production in Q1 of 2013, which means it ought to roll out in time for a Q2 launch. After all, the entire Galaxy S flagship smartphones from Samsung have always made their mark in the second quarter of the particular launch year. What do you think of having such a high pixel density display on your smartphone?
