Twitter brings content preview cards to Android and iPhone, lets us email tweets from the web

Twitter has been on a mission to bring more of its expanded tweet content to the mobile world, and most recently lavished attention on the iPad. It’s carrying that campaign to a much wider mix of screens: an update to the Android and iPhone apps gives them article summary and photo preview cards whenever they either search for tweets or browse through the Discover tab, all without having to tap the post first. Photos in the reworked search have likewise moved to the top by default to help track down that elusive concert photo. Web users aren’t being left out of Twitter’s latest update frenzy, either. The social network is tucking an option into the “more” section of each tweet that lets us email a pristine-looking copy to anyone who isn’t part of Twitter’s flock. All of the features are available to try immediately in the relevant official clients, which should make life grand for those of us who want more than just a wall of text in our search results.

Agenda 21: Georgia GOP State Senators Attend Briefing On U.N. Sustainability Program

Republican state senators in Georgia attended a four-hour closed door briefing last month in which they were told that President Barack Obama and the United Nations are using “mind-control” practices to force through a land use agenda.

The briefing, organized by state Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock), consisted of a presentation by birther activist Field Searcy regarding Agenda 21, a sustainability plan adopted by the United Nations in 1992. During the briefing, part of which was recorded by Better Georgia, an Atlanta-based watchdog group, Searcy accused the U.N. of using socialist practices to force a relocation of Americans from suburbs into cities, and seeking to implement mandatory contraception to curb population growth, Mother Jones reported. Rogers, who has pushed anti-Agenda 21 legislation in the past, did not seek reelection as majority leader during a GOP caucus meeting on Thursday.

Searcy, who had a falling out with a Tea Party group earlier this year, told state senators that the U.N. and Obama are using mind-control techniques to push the plan, which does not have the force of law in the United States.

Laser-Cut Wood Guns Don’t Even Fire Wooden Bullets at Vampires

There’s always been a lot of debate about whether letting kids play with toy guns was a good thing or not. Everyone has their own opinion on the subject, and I say we keep it that way. But regardless of what you think about guns, these wooden guns are unlikely to do any harm.

In fact, Cary Chleborad’s wooden weapons are likely to stimulate the minds of those who assemble them, as each one is a fairly complex puzzle you need to build yourself. Each gun is made from dozens of laser-cut parts, and can take several hours to fully assemble. Keep in mind while they’re called “puzzles,” you’ll be gluing them together, so don’t expect to disassemble your wooden weapon when it’s finished.

They’re available in Uzi, Beretta and revolver models, and sell for $19.95(USD) over on Laserist’s Etsy shop, where you can also buy a laser-cut Humvee to go along with your guns.

San Francisco Eco-District Plan Could Transform South Of Market Forever (PHOTOS)

Last month, the San Francisco Planning Department released a framework for the city’s first eco-district, taking an oft-ignored area of a city and reorienting it toward community-driven sustainability with a focus on innovative uses of pubic space.

The report looks at the possibilities for the Central Corridor Eco-District, a region inside San Francisco’s rapidly developing South of Market neighborhood. SocketSite notes this will be the first district of its kind in San Francisco.

The Planning Department defined the neighborhood as a “patchwork quilt” that is “characterized by its mix of land uses and is comprised of undeveloped, under-developed and developed land owned by different property owners implementing development projects under different timeframes.”

Train Crashes Into Wounded Veterans Parade In Midland Texas

DALLAS — A freight train slammed into a parade float carrying wounded veterans on Thursday, killing four people and injuring 17 others as the float tried to get through a West Texas railroad crossing on its way to an honorary banquet, authorities said.

The eastbound train was sounding its horn before it hit the trailer float around 4:40 p.m. in Midland, Union Pacific spokesman Tom Lange said. A preliminary investigation indicates the crossing gate and lights were working, Lange said, though he didn’t know if the train crew saw the float approaching.

‘American Horror Story: Asylum’: Zachary Quinto On Being Bloody Face And What’s To Come
