BBC Marks 90th Anniversary Under Cloud Of Scandal

LONDON (AP) — Mired in doubt about its future, the British Broadcasting Corporation is marking the 90th anniversary of its first transmission.

The world-renowned broadcaster aired its first radio news bulletins on Nov. 14, 1922, reporting on a train robbery and London’s fog.

Wednesday’s anniversary come as multiple investigations probe the BBC’s failure to report on widespread child sex abuse allegations against one of its biggest stars, the late Jimmy Savile, and on its belated retraction of mistaken allegations by its marquee news program that a politician sexually abused children.

Griffin Twenty is now available

If you have not heard of Griffin Technology before, perhaps it is time for a heads up – this is touted to be one of the world’s foremost creators of innovations for everyday life, and the company has recently announced the availability of Twenty, which was originally introduced earlier this year at January’s showcase CES 2012 event in Las Vegas, Nevada. Just to recap, Twenty will function as an audio amplifier which will incorporate the user’s Airport Express so that it can capture the AirPlay stream, followed by decoding it, and then playing lossless amplified sound via the attached speakers. In fact, Twenty has been recognized for its design and innovation, having picked up the gong for the Popular Mechanics Editor’s Choice Award along the way.

Ethan Opelt, Line Manager of Griffin’s Audio category, said, “Griffin’s Twenty is the easiest, best-sounding solution for untethered digital playback from iTunes or any AirPlay-enabled iOS device. We designed Twenty to be an elegant solution to cable clutter while maintaining high-fidelity sound for the audiophile.”

Just what else does Twenty offer? For starters, it comes with a zero-configuration audio set-up, where you will plug the AirPort Express into a built-in power connection and mounting platform on Twenty’s top panel. Following that, Twenty will then capture the AirPlay stream from iTunes as well as other AirPlay-enabled apps including (but not limited to) Pandora, Spotify, and last.fm, while sending great Apple Lossless audio to your speakers via its low-profile digital amplifier.

Twenty was also specially designed to deliver docking with the original Airport Express, although it is also capable of being compatible with any digital audio source including the new Airport Express. The audio amplifier will boast of a 2.1 channel sound system alongside 20 watts output per channel, while supporting a powered subwoofer using an automatic active crossover at 80 Hz.

You can pick up Twenty for $99.99 a pop if you are interested.

Bankers Different Than Other Rich People In One Big Way

In 2008, long before stress tests and Dodd-Frank, then-Senator Barack Obama excelled in the rich enclaves where much of New York’s financial class lives. Obama made staggering gains among one-percenters in the wealthiest areas of western Connecticut, where as many as one-quarter of adult males work in the financial sector. In New Canaan, where Brian Williams owns a home and the median income exceeds $175,000, Obama lost by just 6 points after Kerry lost by 22 points four years earlier. Nearby Greenwich, where you can find Mel Gibson, Regis, and Madoff’s kids, voted for Obama by 8 points.

Acid Reflux Natural Remedies

Between 25 and 40 percent of Americans will suffer from gastroesophageal reflux disease, known as GERD, a chronic condition that is characterized by regular bouts of acid reflux. The reflux can be caused by a number of things, including overeating, though the primary cause is a faulty valve between the stomach and the esophagus. It’s unknown what, in turn, can cause that valve — known as the lower esophageal sphincter — to spasm improperly, though obesity, smoking, inactivity, large meals and dining close to bedtime are all risk factors. Additionally, some medications can also increase the risk of the condition, including antihistamines, nitrates and calcium channel blockers.

Because many of the causes are lifestyle-related, the condition can be controlled through changes to diet and other behavior. Aside from discomfort, there are important reasons to prevent the condition, including an association with an increased risk of esophageal cancer. Unfortunately, though, rates of GERD are on the rise: One recent Norwegian study found that there are now 1.5 times as many acid reflux sufferers as there were in 2001.

While there are medications to treat acid reflux — and symptom managing medicine, like antacids, as well — many people who suffer from acid reflux can treat their conditions exclusively with non-medical therapies. Here are some with a proven track-record:

AT&T Pantech Magnus (P9090) reappears after fall vacation

AT&T Pantech Magnus P9090 reappears after summer break

A blast from the recent past, Pantech’s Magnus has leaked again — this time with the screen switched on. We’ve already gleaned that a 8-megapixel, quad-band LTE, MSM8960 dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor and NFC are all part of the AT&T-bound package, while those onscreen buttons suggest Android 4.0 — at the least. While the Twitter-based evleaks decided to obscure the calendar widget (and the probable launch date), we doubt it’ll much longer before AT&T offers a full explanation.
