Rhapsody intros SongMatch for Android, helps you discover tunes with a simple tap

There’s certainly no doubt that Rhapsody usually delivers the latest and greatest to the Android crowd first, before eventually taking its on-demand goods elsewhere. Now, not long since completely redesigning its official application on Mountain View’s mobile OS, the music service announced its newest app creation dubbed SongMatch (powered by Gracenote). As the name would adequately tell us, Rhapsody’s app will make it relatively simple to learn more about previously-unknown tunes, with SongMatch offering a one-click feature which can quickly identify music info such as the artist, song and, naturally, the name of the album — you know, similar to what you might see on apps like Shazam and SoundHound. SongMatch is available as a gratis download on the Play and Amazon stores, and Rhapsody’s quick to point out that the app will be great for current subscribers as well as newcomers who may not have an account — that said, the company is hoping to lure some people in, adding that SongMatch is indeed “a great way to introduce new music fans to Rhapsody.”

Windows 8 Sales: Five Questions That Still Need Answers

Windows 8, Microsoft reported yesterday, has sold 40 million Windows 8 licenses in its first month of retail. That’s an indisputably huge number, outpacing even Windows 7 sales at launch. But it’s also a number that raises more questions than answers. More »

Asus Taichi Shipments Delayed

It looks like the Taichi hybrid laptop from Asus is too elusive to handle. First unveiled at Computex 2012 in Taiwan, the Taichi sports a dual IPS display that easily converts the device into a tablet or a notebook, depending on your mood. When the Asus Taichi visited the FCC last month, we were already assuming that it will arrive just in time for the holiday season. But it’s not. According to PC World, Asus is delaying the shipments of the hybrid in the U.S.

An Asus spokesperson reportedly told the publication via email that the shipments could start next month, but it could also be delayed up to next year. In short, Asus’s roadmap is still uncertain. Asus allegedly denied to specify the reason for the delay nor did it gave any information about the availability of the hybrid worldwide. In case you didn’t know, the Asus Taichi comes in two models – one running Intel Core i5 and another running Intel Core i7.

Oculus Rift dev kits to ship in March 2013, orders fulfilled by mid-April

Oculus Rift dev kits to ship in March 2013, orders fulfilled by midApril

Were you one of the many folks to donate your hard-earned cash to the crazy folks developing the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset? Sadly, we’ve got some bad news for ya — you won’t be playing Doom 3: BFG Edition with your new headset any time this year, as the device isn’t shipping to its Kickstarter backers until some time next March. Citing a variety of factors, the folks at Oculus say it’s simply impossible to get the dev kits manufactured and shipped to all 7,500 backers within the previous time frame of “before 2012 ends.” The company hopes to have all dev kit orders fulfilled by mid-April 2013.

Moreover, a handful of tech specs have changed on the OR since we last saw it, including a display change from 5.6-inch LCD to 1280 x 800 7-inch — that’s a lot of screen connected to your face! As such, the whole device is a bit heavier than before (by 30g). Additionally, previously off the shelf motion sensors were replaced with a custom one “that excels in VR-critical areas.” Should you wish to get into all the (extremely) nitty gritty details, Oculus has a detailed Kickstarter update right here.

Vimeo for iPhone updated with easier video creation

Vimeo has released a new app for iPhone, allowing users to film their own videos and upload them while on the move, as well as browse through the video library. The free app, v3.0, introduces a new tab-based UI for easier navigation between the new Feed view, video searches, and the Watch Later queue; it’s also possible to shoot videos within the app, and then upload them in the background.

Alternatively, there’s support for uploading videos shot with other apps, whether that be the official iOS camera app, or another video tool from the App Store. Clips can then be shared, either via Facebook, Twitter, email, or iMessage, or by simply copying the URL to the app of your choice.

However, existing users may find one of the previous features they were used to has disappeared in this new version. The iPhone editor has been deleted, though it’s possible to download and save active projects to the Camera Roll and edit them with third-party apps.

You can find Vimeo for iPhone in the App Store [iTunes link] where it’s a free download. Vimeo also has a (slightly creepy) launch video, which you can see below:

Teach Yourself Like the Pros Do

Challenges always exist when improving the golf game. Take a lesson from a pro and they will tell you something different than the previous guy did. Invest in a new driver, said to give you more distance, only to realize your lack of swing talent will prevent it. Heck, even tour pros have issues. Eyeline Golf creates training tools to help golfers of any ability. Their product lineup helps golfers focus on putting and swing with everything from aids to books and videos and has been featured in Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and the Golf Channel among others.  Here are a couple we think could help your game – or the game of someone on your shopping list.

Getting the right putting stroke down can make a massive difference. Those bogeys turn to pars…or even birdies when you and your putter are in sync. The Edge Putting Rail, $59.95,  provides a 70° lie angle – that of most putters – to help with muscle memory. Line up your ball and putter, follow the Edge on your backswing and follow through to maintain the same plane and squarely strike the ball. Check your measurements with the markings on the Edge too. Claimed as “…the most popular plane angle…” let the Edge help you perfect your putting setup, path and speed whether practicing indoors or out.

Another Eyeline device to check out is the 360° Mirror. Place the convex gadget in a number of different positions to provide yourself instant feedback. Put it in front of you at address and see the full stroke, from club head top of your backswing. Put beneath your hands to confirm stance. Or combine it with the Edge to really view your putting. Any golfer wanting to be in touch with their setup and movements should have a 360° Mirror, also $59.95.

So whether you are the golfer or you have one in your life, help the game without giving advice! Get Eyeline aids to bring scores down and they will thank you or you will thank yourself.

Skype for iOS updates with Microsoft account login, animated emoticons

After updating their Android app with Microsoft account login abilities, Skype is doing the same for its iOS app today. The company has issued an update for the app that follows along with their plans to merge Windows Live Messenger with Skype. Along with the Microsoft account login, the app adds animated emoticons and a few other welcomed additions that users will find useful.

Users are now able to login to the Skype app using either their Messenger, Hotmail, or Outlook.com credentials, and then merge their accounts once they’re in. Users can also chat with their friends who use any of these Microsoft services straight from Skype, thanks to the integrated Microsoft account support.

If you have an iOS device with a Retina display, you can now also enjoy animated emoticons. We’re not sure why Skype limited this new feature to only Retina displays, but if you’re using a last-gen iDevice, you’re stuck using the inanimate emoticons until you can upgrade, but it’s probably not a huge deal for most users.

The updated app also lets you set up a new Skype account from directly within the iOS app. It also allows you to edit instant messages you’ve sent to your friends by tapping and holding individual messages. And as usual, you’ll find that Skype also included a handful of bug fixes and general performance enhancements.

Skype for iOS is a free download, and the new update is available now in the iTunes App Store.
