Fiat announces new 500L and 500L Trekking for North America

If you’re a fan of the Fiat 500, Fiat has announced the two new cars that are headed to North America. The new vehicles include the all-new 500L and the new 500L Trekking. The standard 500L is a longer version of the iconic Fiat 500 adding two more doors allowing for comfortable accommodations for five passengers.

The 500L offers passengers 26 inches more length and 6 inches more height and width than normal 500 cars. Fiat says that the extra space allows the vehicle to deliver an EPA Large Car size interior promising best in class headroom, front legroom, and 42% more interior space than the standard 500. The vehicle will be powered by 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine producing 160 hp.

The 500L models will be available with two 6 speed transmission offerings. The 500L Trekking is described as a more adventurous version of the normal 500L. The Trekking version gets a two-tone interior, unique front and rear fascias, flared wheel arches, and larger 17-inch wheels.

Fiat says the larger wheels are intended to offer a hint at the urban utility vehicles handling capabilities. The interior will be a black/brown combination, this version of the car will have an all-new Uconnect 5.0 system with a five-inch touchscreen interface, and Bluetooth hands-free calling and streaming audio capability. Pricing and availability on both vehicles is unknown.

D3O iPhone 5 Impact Band

So you have gotten yourself a spanking new iPhone 5, and would want to care for it in the best way possible. Well, the next logical accessory that you can purchase would be the £19.99 D3O iPhone 5 Impact Band, don’t you think so? Coming in clear and smokey designs, you can be sure that the D3O iPhone 5 Impact Band will be able to do its darndest best to ensure your precious smartphone from Cupertino with its 4” Retina Display will remain in pristine condition for as long as possible.

The D3O iPhone 5 Impact Band is very different from a regular case, where it sports a particular protective band that will fit around the edge of your iPhone 5, and in the process, it delivers incredible impact protection. Specially developed in futuristic science labs and underground bunkers (just sayin’, we think it is more of a factory lab somewhere), the iPhone 5 Impact Band relies on D3O technology, which means it is soft and pliable under normal conditions, but will remain rigid and extremely strong in the event of an impact.

Google Play store now accepting pre-orders for books, bibliophiles rejoice

Books preorders now live on Google Play

Google’s been kicking around the idea of pre-orders in its Play Store for a while, and now we know exactly how that’ll pan out. You can now indulge in some pre-launch book ordering on the website as well as on Android devices — the goodies are listed under the “New and Coming Soon” section. Take the plunge, and the dough will disappear from your account the moment the title’s out, landing instantly in your online library and apps. Weirdly, however, if there’s a change to the pricing or the release date, the order is cancelled, forcing you to virtually flash the plastic once more. Mountain View’s been right on top of the game when it comes to releasing updates, enhancements and bug fixes around its ecosystem, mostly anyway — and the latest addition might just tickle book shoppers more than some other ways we know of.

Nintendo 3DS XL Mario Kart 7 bundle races in for the holidays

Nintendo‘s holiday gush continues, with the gaming company pushing out a new bundle this time preloading Mario Kart 7 onto the eye-friendly 3DS XL. The new, limited-edition system pairs the blue/black version of the larger glasses-free 3D handheld with a copy of Mario Kart 7  for $199.99, rather than the $240 you’d be shelling out if you paid RRP for each separately.

In fact, you’re getting the duo for the same RRP as the regular 3DS XL, which basically makes the game a freebie. It’s also saved to the handheld itself, meaning no need to carry around a separate cartridge; still, that does mean you can’t trade it in or swap it with a friend when you get bored of playing it.

Earlier this month, Nintendo revealed a flame red bundle centering on the original 3DS, and including a preloaded copy of Super Mario 3D Land. There’s also a bright yellow 3DS XL headed to Europe, while Japan gets a Charizard limited edition.

Meanwhile, Canada has a cut-price version of Nintendo’s Wii, the freshly-announced Wii Mini, priced at CA$99.99 but sacrificing internet connectivity and backward compatibility with GameCube titles in order to hit that price. Of course, most eyes are on the new Wii U, the next-gen console Nintendo is hoping will turn around its fortunes.

Google Now Allows Book Pre-orders On Google Play

Following the recent Google+ integration on Google Play, it seems that the Mountain View-based technology giant is now allowing customers to pre-order books on the Google Play Store. To try out the new feature, simply visit Google Play and click on the Books category. There you will find the “New And Coming Soon” section that basically lists all the books that can be pre-ordered. Then you can complete the order process by tapping the pre-order button.

Customers will be charged upon availability of the book and they can also cancel their pre-orders anytime. This is good news for Android users. First, it’s a sign that Google is starting to experiment with pre-orders on Google Play. Had it been made available during the Nexus 4 debut, people wouldn’t have to go through the tedious ordering process while working their way into the first-come-first-serve business model. You can test the functionality by visiting Google Play. Cheers!

Dragonscale Bag of Holding

Do you love all things that have to do with RPGs? Well, if you have answered in the affirmative then you might be interested to know that there is this $79.99 Dragonscale Bag of Holding which will certainly come in handy to tote around your earthly possessions – at least some of it. You could say that it contains far more style compared to all of the other man bags out there, and since it is made out of “dragonhide” PVC leather, your brain will tell you that it is far more cavernous than originally thought.

Capable of holding laptops of up to 17″ in size, tablets, books, folders, old tomes that carry spells of yore, dice, scrolls, and potions are definitely no match for it – not to mention it will more than welcome modern day items such as pens, cables and smartphones. For those who feel that their social life is down in the dumps, you could say that the Dragonscale Bag of Holding is capable of delivering +5 to your Charisma, now how about that? By the way, no dragons were harmed in the making of this bag.

TMG Sports 650 hones Lexus luxobarge into Japanese monster

A Lexus sedan might not be the first donor car you think of for a beefy road-destroying super cruiser, but TMG’s Sports 650 take on the LS 460 could well shatter the superiority of meaty Mercedes and BMWs. The independent performance brand is better known for crafting Toyota’s F1 cars, but Toyota Motorsport Gmbh turned its hand to road-going cars with the Sports 650, a 5-liter V8 monster with a sub-4s 0-60mph sprint.

In fact, the TMG Sports 650 is expected to do the 0-60mph dash in 3.9s, and go all the way to 200mph if you have sufficient road. To do that, it pushes 650PS (641HP) through an 8-speed gearbox (with manual override) courtesy of twin turbos, sufficient to get what’s a 2,050kg, 5.1m long “heavily modified” barge to the limits.

Brembo carbon ceramic brakes help rein things in when you run out of tarmac, clamping down on special lightweight 20-inch wheels, and there’s multi-link suspension with coil springs and Sachs dampers. TMG isn’t talking pricing yet, but tells Motor Authority that production of the TS-650 could get the green light if there’s sufficient interest.

If that does happen, it would mark TMG’s transition into a performance tuning industry dominated by German marques. BMW’s M division and Mercedes’ AMG team are well known for turning the luxury car company’s more expensive models into autobahn beasts, though Lexus has dabbled with F-branded sports variants, and Jaguar is expected to reveal a super-cat of its own at the LA Auto Show this week.

iPad And Android Tablet Market Share Margin Narrows Much Faster Than Originally Predicted

Image (2) apple-samsung-620x253.jpg for post 206796

Apple continued to win out in terms of tablet market share this past quarter, according to the latest figures from ABI Research, with a 55 percent share of all shipments during the period. That’s a lead it has had since 2010 when the iPad was introduced, but it’s also the slimmest lead it’s ever had, and represents a dip of 14 percent versus the previous quarter. At this rate, Android could overtake the iPad for tablet share sometime next year, something which seemed unlikely or even impossible in 2010 and 2011.

Shortly after the iPad’s introduction in 2010, there were predictions that Android would eventually overtake Apple’s market share in the tablet market the same way that Android smartphones had done with the iPhone. But early predictions tended to favor 2015 or 2016 as the crossover point at which Android tablets (from a variety of OEMs) would actually overtake iPad sales in terms of broad market share. Others still saw Apple dominating even longer – a 2011 Gartner study suggested Apple would keep 47 percent of the market in 2015, with Android coming up with just 38 percent.

Apple still hasn’t dipped that low, but Android now has 44 percent of the market, owing in part to the utter failure of any other tablet-based mobile platform. HP’s webOS was a brief-lived affair, and RIM’s PlayBook, despite remaining on sale, has failed to become a major competitor to either iOS or Android-based slates. That lack of competitive alternatives has helped Android gain share much faster than most originally predicted, meaning a tipping point might not be that far off.

In fact, a recent projection, analyst Sameer Singh from Finvista Advisors suggests Android may take the crown as early as mid-2013, just next year. The narrowing of the gap is testament to significant improvements in the quality and variety of Android tablet devices available, including strong, inexpensive entrants from Amazon (which are reportedly selling well this holiday season, though there aren’t any numbers attached to those claims), and Google’s Nexus 7 (which we heard some early numbers around from OEM partner Asus). Samsung also saw strong tablet performance, according to ABI.

ABI suggests that the iPad mini has done little to help Apple’s overall tablet sales, but I think it’s too early yet to tell what kind of impact that new form factor will ultimately have on the company’s market share and its own tablet breakdown. And even if Apple loses its majority share of the tablet market in 2013, that likely won’t have a negative impact on its financial performance; losing the smartphone market share crown, for instance, hasn’t stopped iPhone sales from seeing continued positive growth.
