Apple ordered by U.K. court to revise acknowledgement saying that Samsung did not copy the iPad

It was just last week when Apple posted an acknowledgement letter on its official page saying that the U.K court did not find Samsung guilty of copying the iPad. The letter sounded disinterested, and it seems as if Apple was apologizing without really meaning it. Somehow the U.K. court felt it and is now reprimanding Apple for the choice of words on its website.

Apple has been ordered to revise its statement within 48 hours after the U.K. court considered its statement last week to be “non-compliant.” The Guardian reports that Judges Lord Justice Longmore, Lord Justice Kitchin and Sir Robin Jacob were not pleased with Apple’s failure to put a simpler statement on the site. Apple reportedly contested that it would take at least 14 days to revise the statement – a claim that one judge cannot believe.

“Apple must now within 48 hours publish a correction on their homepage with a link to the corrected statement in not less than 11-point font,” said Darren Smyth of EIP Partners. A few months ago, at the height of the Apple versus Samsung trial, the U.K. court ordered Apple to issue a notice on its website and in several British newspapers that Samsung didn’t infringe any of the iPad’s patents.

Ali Harzi, Tunisia Man, ‘Strongly Suspected’ Of Role In U.S. Consulate Attack In Libya

TUNIS, Tunisia — A jailed Tunisian man is “strongly suspected” of being involved in the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that killed four Americans, a top Tunisian official has confirmed.

Interior Minister Ali Larayedh said were “major assumptions” that Ali Harzi, who was arrested and repatriated from Turkey, had a link to the attack in the Libyan city that killed U.S. ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans on Sept. 11 this year. It was unusual for Larayedh to speak so publicly about the sensitive investigation in the television interview late Wednesday.

West Nile Outbreak Cases Still Growing, But At Slower Pace: CDC

By Marice Richter

DALLAS, Oct 31 (Reuters) – The number of people infected with the mosquito-borne West Nile virus in the United States continues to grow, but the pace of this year’s outbreak is slowing, federal health officials said on Wednesday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said 4,891 people have contracted the disease, up from 4,725 a week ago. The virus killed four more people in the past week, bringing this year’s death toll to 223.

The outbreak appears to be slowing, with 166 new cases reported during the last week, down from 199 the week before, according to CDC data. The week’s death toll dropped to four, down from 36 during the previous week.

Just over half the cases reported to the CDC this year have been of the severe nueroinvasive form of the disease, which can cause meningitis and encephalitis. West Nile Fever, the less severe form, causes flu-like symptoms and is rarely lethal.

More than 70 percent of cases have been concentrated in 10 states: Texas, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, Illinois, South Dakota, Michigan, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Colorado.

Texas has been the hardest hit, accounting for more than a third of all cases, with Dallas-Fort Worth at the center of the outbreak.

According to the latest tally from the Texas Department of State Health Services, 1,718 people in the state have contracted the virus this year, and 78 people have died.

“We’re still seeing new cases, but we’re seeing the pace slow down quite a bit,” said Chris Van Deusen, a spokesman for the Texas Department of State Health Services.

CDC officials said warm weather is a factor in a West Nile outbreak and colder weather suppresses mosquito activity. The worst year for West Nile-related deaths was 2002, when 284 people died as a result of the virus, the CDC said. (Editing by Cynthia Johnston and Stacey Joyce)

MSI launches the 27inch Wind Top AE2712 allinone toting Windows 8, military specs

The Windows 8 all-in-one arena is already pretty crowded, but if MSI’s new model had to fight it out with the rest battle-bot style, then it might just come out on top. That’s because the Wind Top AE2712 comes with MSI’s usual military class components, alongside a brutish 27-inch 1080p display with ten-finger touch, Core i3 or i5 processors and optional NVIDIA GeForce GT630M graphics (on the ‘G’ model). Also included is the company’s Smart Media cloud that lets you share data with DNLA-enabled TVs and mobile devices. The PC’s already popped up on Amazon UK with a £830 sticker and November 9th ship date, so if you need an AIO tough enough to withstand, say, an all-out rugrat assault, check out the source link.

Wisconsin Spa Shooting: Cops Criticized, Accused Of Blaming Victim

MILWAUKEE — Wisconsin legislators sent a letter to a suburban Milwaukee police chief accusing his department of allowing a man who fatally shot his wife and two others at a spa to elude accountability in his past run-ins with the agency.

The letter asks for an independent and transparent investigation of the Brown Deer Police Department’s interactions with Radcliffe Haughton and the department’s domestic violence policies and practices. Haughton opened fire on Oct. 21 at the Brookfield spa where his wife, Zina Haughton, worked before killing himself.

Big Sugar’s Sweet Little Lies

A growing body of research suggests that sugar and its nearly chemically identical cousin, HFCS, may very well cause diseases that kill hundreds of thousands of Americans every year, and that these chronic conditions would be far less prevalent if we significantly dialed back our consumption of added sugars.

The JBL Soundfly Is A Little Wireless Speaker That Hangs From An Electrical Outlet

jbl_soundfly

This is clever. Instead of joining the fray with just another small, wireless speaker, JBL made the Soundfly, which is a small, wireless speaker that supports itself from an electrical plug. Talk about plug and play, amirite.

Using a standard electrical jack, the Soundfly plugs into an outlet, where it can live out its days hanging from the wall, playing Dashboard Confessional streamed from a wireless device. There’s a Bluetooth and Airplay versions, for $179 and $199, respectively.

The Soundfly joins the rest of the small speakers currently flooding the market. But it’s different. It’s not portable and is semi-permanent. But by hanging from an outlet, JBL ingeniously resolved two of the inherent downfalls with portable speakers: where do you put it and how does it stay charged. Sure, this little speaker might not be the best solution for everyone, but it’s a fine alternative to a Jambox or Jabra Solemate (my personal fav) if the speaker is just going to be used a single location anyway.

Marijuana Legalization Could Cut Cartels’ Earnings By As Much As 30 Percent, According To Mexico-Based Study

MEXICO CITY — A study released Wednesday by a respected Mexican think tank asserts that proposals to legalize the recreational use of marijuana in Colorado, Oregon and Washington could cut Mexican drug cartels’ earnings from traffic to the U.S. by as much as 30 percent.

Opponents questioned some of the study’s assumptions, saying the proposals could also offer new opportunities for cartels to operate inside the U.S. and replace any profit lost to a drop in international smuggling.
