Surface KB 2756872 Update Appears
Posted in: Today's ChiliIf you happen to own the Microsoft Surface, then you might have noticed that there is a spanking new update for your tablet device – the KB 2756872 update. Well, those who have a keen eye for detail will be pleased to know that the KB 2756872 is accompanied by a rather informative change log, where it has promised to deliver improvements to performance, battery life and of course, better driver compatibility. Not only that, you can expect improvements in the audio department, which will, keep your fingers crossed here, fix the stuttering issue that select Surface users did complain about in the past.
So far those who have given the update a go have no complaints at all, where KB 2756872 does what it promised, with some citing that the Xbox Music app has also become slightly more responsive – which is always a good thing, and a more fluid and faster scrolling experience would go down well with the masses as well. For those of you who have applied the update, how do you find it treating you so far?

Finnish retailer Verkkokauppa has pulled off a pretty clever marketing stunt, if you could call it that – by sending out (or should we say, up?) a Nokia Lumia 920 into space by attaching it to a balloon. Verkkokauppa was curious to see just how far the device is able to reach before the balloon burst, and the Lumia 920 would then have to conform to the law of gravity and fall back down to earth. It seemed that Nokia’s flagship model managed to touch 30km from sea level, where it spent over 27 minutes in sub-zero temperatures. Stashed within a special container, it made its way back to the ground and was recovered by the launch team. Here’s the kicker, there was not only one Lumia 920 sent up, but two, and Verkkokauppa is offering a 1,000 Euro reward for anyone locating the second Lumia 920.
A Facebook post detailed the handset’s last known co-ordinates as 61.324573 (latitude) and 27.734175 (longitude). This location seems to be in Finland (unless you use Apple’s iOS 6 Maps app, of course). Hopefully you won’t find a new lifeform in the container that starts to grow into some alien thing.

webOS Runs On Android Platform?
Posted in: Today's Chili
Ever since HP rolled out the source code for Open webOS, developers have gotten down to work with relish, and some of them have even ported the operating system to different platforms, and one of the more memorable moments was to see it run on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus as well as other devices such as the Asus Transformer Prime tablet. Well, who knows, sometime down the road, you might actually be able to run Open webOS on your Android smartphone or tablet without having to reboot. This can mean only one thing, right? Open webOS running in an Android environment without having to reboot would see it exist as apps.
The good people over at Phoenix Devices have been working hard on porting the operating system so that it can run as an Android app, and you can check out the latest demonstration video above to see their latest progress. The Samsung Nexus S was the smartphone of choice to launch an Open webOS app in the Android ecosystem, but the user interface remains extremely slow since there is a lack of support for hardware accelerated graphics. Many other details remain missing, but we are sure they will be in place in due time as work progresses in the right direction.

Mass Effect 3 Omega DLC Debuts
Posted in: Today's Chili
The most recent DLC for Mass Effect 3, simple known as Omega, will arrive on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms today at $14.99, and if you prefer to converse in Microsoft/BioWare Points, that would amount up to 1,200 of them. Omega is touted to be the second single player DLC for BioWare’s final chapter in the Mass Effect trilogy, where we continue adventuring with Shepard as well as the lovable albeit foul-mouthed Aria T’Loak, as she continues in her quest to reclaim what she deems as “rightfully” hers, which is the Omega station in the Mass Effect 2 storyline. Below is a summary of what the Omega DLC is all about.
Navigate Omega’s seedy underbelly as Aria joins your squad and you witness her legendary biotic powers and unrelenting ruthlessness first-hand. Help Nyreen Kandros, the valiant Turian leader of the Talon mercenary group, as she fights to free the enslaved people of Omega. Face down fearsome new enemies, including the Cerberus-manipulated Reaper, the Adjutant. Shape Omega’s future through four death-defying missions, and strike a devastating blow to the Illusive Man’s plans.
While Omega is the largest Mass Effect 3 DLC to date, it did not set out to be that way at first. Enjoy the launch trailer above!

Nowadays, anyone with a laptop, a dream and a vague grasp on tonality can lay down their own DIY demo. But for those with more serious musical aspirations, Korg’s MicroStation might be worth a look. The shrunken-down sequencer arrives as a $399 My First Synth of sorts, combining dual arpeggiators, 480 effects and 61 “natural touch” keys in a compact form factor that should play nice with novice musicians. The keyboard also features an SD slot for saving and transporting your future Top 40 (college radio) hits, a USB port for easy connection to your home or studio computer and comes packaged with editing software: MicroStation Editor and MicroStation Plug-in Editor. If any or all of that rings your bell, you can snag it now at the source below.

In the 1994 film, The Air Up There, Jimmy Dolan (played by, obviously, Kevin Bacon) travels to Africa to recruit a potential basketball phenom, Saleh. Nowadays, NBA scouts are increasingly traveling overseas in search of their next star (Ricky Rubio) or role player (Kevin Séraphin). In this installment, we take a brief break from the US-based focus of last week to take a closer look at the foreign-born men currently playing in the NBA.
Charter School Proponents To Announce Major Focus On Shutting Down Failing Schools
Posted in: Today's ChiliCharter schools are about to get a reality check.
As someone who has observed the breakneck pace of the growing charter school movement up close, Greg Richmond, who leads the National Association of Charter School Authorizers (NACSA), is taking a step back.
“We didn’t start this movement in order to create more failing schools, but that’s what we have,” Richmond told The Huffington Post. “Hundreds of them.”

They say all rappers want to play ball, and all ballers want to rap. Though it’s probably not 100 percent true, there has long been an overlap between the NBA and rap music, be it Master P trying out for the Hornets or Shaq dropping as many albums in the ’90s as Jay-Z.
Here, we’ve collected every current NBA player who has been mentioned in a rap song, from the omnipresent LeBron James to preeminent punching bag Darko Milicic.
