FCC filing shows the ZTE Grand X heading to T-Mobile

We first started to see ZTE‘s Grand X smartphone this past summer, following it up with a hands-on review of the rather sleek-looking handset. Now the device has made a new appearance, this time over at the FCC with a nice T-Mobile brand on its back, indicating that we’ll be seeing the handset show up at the carrier sometime soon. Nothing official has been announced.

1

Lending further support to what we see in the images is the filing itself, which mentions T-Mobile’s WCDMA 1700 AWS network. It is safe to assume, then, that the Grand X will be hitting the market via the carrier, although when that could happen and what price range we’re looking at is anybody’s guess. Thus far, nary a peep has been uttered in the rumorsphere about either of them.

2

ZTE’s Grand X features a nicely-sized IPS display at 4.3-inches with a resolution of 960 x 540. Inside you’ll find a dual-core 1GHz processor, and, assuming the specs are the same as the one we got our hands on back in July, there will be 4GB of internal storage space and 512MB of RAM. Around back you’ll find a 5-megapixel camera, and a 1,650mAH battery to run it all.

We took a peek through the user manual up on the FCC’s website, and nothing stands out as particularly different or new. While the specs are decent, the handset will run Android Ice Cream Sandwich, meaning there is officially nothing exciting about the device. Still, given ZTE’s usually low price-point, this could end up being a decent budget phone for those wanting a large display.

‘Role Player’ Norman Yee Off To SF Board – SFGate

In San Francisco’s political world of big personalities and strict ideological alliances, Supervisor-elect Norman Yee stands apart.

The 63-year-old Board of Education president and San Francisco native has built a reputation over his eight years on the school board as a consensus builder who works hard but doesn’t crave the spotlight. Yee, who grew up in Chinatown and started working at his parents’ Noe Valley grocery store at the age of 8, said he will bring that same work ethic to the Board of Supervisors.

Ginnifer Goodwin Talks Ridiculous Reason Why She Took Breathalyzer On ‘Love You, Mean It’ (VIDEO)

ABC’s Snow White dropped by Whitney Cummings’ new talk show, “Love You, Mean It,” to talk about filming “Once Upon a Time” in Canada. There, Ginnifer Goodwin admitted that she’s already had a run-in with the law. They thought maybe she was intoxicated, but the story was much less exciting — and maybe even a little embarrassing.

She said they had her take a breathalyzer, and not because she’d been driving erratically. In fact, she wasn’t driving at all. According to Goodwin, it was because she’d “parked poorly at a meter.”

Cummings had a suggestion of what she should have told the officers. “If I were you I would just be like, ‘I’m Snow White, bitch!'”

Toshiba 20 Megapixel Image Sensor Targets Point-And-Shoot Cameras

toshiba 20mp Toshiba 20 Megapixel Image Sensor Targets Point And Shoot CamerasJust when you thought that the megapixel wars are over, here we are with word that Toshiba’s spanking new TCM5115CL 20-megapixel image sensor is being prepared to roll out to the masses, with it being the highest-resolution ever image sensor constructed that will target point-and-shoot cameras. Hmmm, perhaps it is the dawn of a new megapixel war, and who are we to argue with the industry movers and shakers? Just when you thought that there was no longer any more point to cramming in additional pixels onto small image sensors, here we are with Toshiba’s version, where this new 1/2.3-inch image sensor will pack in 25% more pixels than usual.

Could this be a visual breakthrough for image quality? Who knows, until we see the actual devices released itself. Still, a 1/2.3-inch sensor is surely in need for better performance considering the amount of pixels that it already has. Let us wait and see what happens next August when these sensors ship out with a new batch of cameras. [Press Release]

San Francisco Year In Review: The Twelve Biggest News Stories Of 2012 (PHOTOS)

We may not have had flesh-eating zombies or an apocalyptic storm, but San Francisco had a pretty interesting year nonetheless.

Our boys in orange and black made history for the second time in two years. Our sheriff fell from grace then miraculously resurrected. The war on weed raged on, we banned public nudity for good, and pink mustaches began appearing on cars all over town. We lured a major sports franchise across the bay. You still can’t afford to live here — but for real, this time.

Perhaps most importantly, HuffPost SF turned one. Happy birthday to us! (And to you, too, Golden Gate Bridge.)

Samsung releases teaser video for CES 2013 Smart TV unveiling

Earlier today, we reported that Samsung gave a nice peak at its updated Smart TV user interface, which it plans to show off at the upcoming 2013 CES tech event. A few hours later, the Korean company then dropped a teaser video on YouTube also hinting at the unveiling, featuring awestruck TVs traveling to behold a Smart TV draped in cloth. Check out the video after the jump.

The video itself doesn’t tell us much in terms of what to expect of the new user interface, except perhaps that our TVs will crawl out the window and take the bus to go see it. A post Samsung made earlier today, however, states: “Samsung Electronics introduces a whole new “Smart Hub” at 2013 International CES in Las Vegas from Jan 8th. The new Smart Hub is Samsung Smart TV’s dedicated contents platform where viewers can enjoy various contents such as real time broadcasting TV programs, on-demand movies, apps, and photos.”

According to Samsung, the updated platform will offer a different background image and a simplified user interface to make it easier for viewers to find what they’re looking for. As can be seen from the images, the content seems easy to both take in visually and flip through manually without much hassle either way.

While all the attention has been focused on the Smart TV user interface, there’s been no word thus far about the televisions in terms of hardware – what is planned, what is to be expected, etc. What we do know is that the user interface update will be provided across Samsung’s lineup, not just the Series 8 upon which it is demonstrated.

Temple Run Is One Hot Download This Christmas

temple run download Temple Run Is One Hot Download This ChristmasI guess you know that smartphones and tablets are one hot ticket item this Christmas, otherwise how else do you explain the massive download of the Temple Run game over the Christmas period? Keith Shepherd, founder of Imangi Studios, the very same studio behind the highly addictive Temple Run game, just announced on Wednesday that their game received more than its fair share of love over Christmas. In fact, this game was downloaded over a million times on iOS, and also more than one million times on the Android platform. The good news does not stop there though, as Amazon’s Appstore also registered more than 500,000 downloads throughout the 24-hour period. This is definitely an achievement worth trumpeting about in the span of just one day. To put things in perspective, Temple Run was the top free and top grossing app on Apple’s App Store earlier this year, garnering more than 40 million downloads and 7 million daily active users. Users these days sure are fast and efficient in updating their devices, no?
