This Steampunk arm guard comes with a working Bluetooth keyboard

While there are keyboards that pair with your smartphones or tablets via Bluetooth, they’re probably not as interesting compared to this Steampunk arm guard that features an actual working Bluetooth keyboard strapped onto it. While the Bluetooth keyboard itself might be your run of the mill keyboard, the fact that it has been done up Steampunk-style complete with leather and brass makes it stand out from the crowd, and probably adds on quite a bit to the price which its creator, Thomas Willeford of Brute Force Studios is asking $1,200 for. According to Willeford, these are some of the features that you can expect from the keyboard:

– 3-in-1 multimedia wireless keyboard (Keyboard, TouchPad, Laser Pointer)
– Control your media while sitting on the sofa, lounging in bed, up to 100 feet away
– Built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery with a short re-charge time
– Includes mini 2.4 GHz USB wireless receiver
– Wireless receiver stores inside keyboard when not in use
– Stand-by time: 500 – 700 hours

Also based on the photos, the keyboard arm guard will be available in either a square-key finish, or a round-key finish depending on your preference. It might not be the most practical thing but if you’ve got $1,200 to spare and wouldn’t mind walking around with it strapped to your arm, head on over to Willeford’s Etsy page to purchase one for yourself.

Online retailers vary pricing based on user location and average income

Location data has been used by companies to help generate relevant ads and direct you to websites that are suited for your region, but interestingly Staples seems to have taken it one step further and now uses your location to help determine what kind of prices you will see on their website. According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, they have found that depending on where you live, and how close you are to a Staples competitor, the price reflected on its website will vary for a product viewed by someone else living in a different state or different suburb. The report from the Wall Street Journal has also found that areas in which the average household income is higher have prices which are more discounted versus areas in which average household income is lower, whereby prices are actually higher.

Staples isn’t the only retailer who engages in these practice and the Wall Street Journal also lists retailers such as Discover Financial Services, Rosetta Stone and Home Depot as being some of them. When asked about it, Staples acknowledged that “in-store and online prices do vary by geography due to a variety of factors, including rent, labor, distribution and other costs of doing business,” but declined to mention whether average household income was taken into account. Pretty interesting but what do you guys think? Price discrimination is definitely not something new where some countries actually pay more for a similar product compared to another, but do you think it’s fair that an item can be priced differently for someone who stays in the next neighborhood?

Parrot Asteroid Mini Picks Up FCC Approval

Would you like to work at the FCC? After all, that seems to be the place to be when it comes to picking up the latest and greatest gizmos for you to play around with. Well, the Parrot Asteroid Mini multimedia system for vehicles which was unveiled to the masses in October might be well on its way to the general public soon. Of course, this being a system that offers GPS mapping functionality, we do tend to ask ourselves whether there is still a market among the public for a standalone automotive GPS device, considering how our smartphones and tablets have turned out to be pretty powerful devices in their own right that can also help you find your way around unfamiliar territory.

Back to the Parrot Asteroid Mini, this bad boy will come withGPS mapping functionality at its core, while letting you manage calls and music at the same time. It will play nice with both iOS- and Android-powered devices, hooking up to them via Bluetooth connectivity, where it is also accompanied by a single USB port for you to slip in a 3G dongle. A 3.2-inch TFT color display is there, although touching it isn’t going to yield any response since this is no touchscreen device. At least there is a wireless remote control for you to play with. The Parrot Asteroid Mini will ship sometime in February next year Stateside for $300 a pop.

Samsung GT-S6810P Spotted In GLBenchmark

Hmmm, this certainly did not take too long – the Samsung GT-N5100 was recently spotted over at GLBenchmark, and here we are with another Samsung device that has been spotted on the very same benchmark. I am referring to the Samsung GT-S6810P, and since it lacks the “N” designation, this would most probably not fall under the Note family or range. Unlike the Samsung GT-N5100, the Samsung GT-S6810P does seem to be more subdued device that will be extremely comfortable resting in the mid-range scheme of things, although it will still come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Don’t be too surprised to hear that the display has a resolution which will disappoint many who are used to high end specifications – we are talking about just 480 × 320 pixels here, where it will run on a 1GHz processor, which in all probability, is a dual-core processor. If you were to take a closer look at the specs list and make a comparison, this should not be too far different from the Galaxy Ace Plus, and who knows, it might very well be the fabled Samsung Galaxy Frame that we talked about earlier?

Neo Geo X Hacked

newogeoxhacked Neo Geo X HackedWe have seen plenty of the Neo Geo X in the past, as this is in no way a top secret device waiting in the wings to be launched, but rather, it is another portable handheld console that intends to make a name for itself in the dog-eat-dog world. Well, it did not take too long for the Neo Geo X to fall victim to hacking, which is not surprising at all considering how other more established portable gaming consoles such as the Nintendo range (DS, DSi, 3DS) and Sony PlayStation Vita were hacked after being released to the market so soon. Basically, the Neo Geo X has succumbed to those in the homebrew segment, and talented programmers realized that there is basically no copy protection of any kind to work around, apart from a lightly glued microSD card.

Without wasting too much time experimenting, the homebrew community realized that the Neo Geo X’s BIOS and game ROMs can be swapped successfully for new games or custom loaders. Substitute files will still need to retain the name of the file that they replace, while swapped games remain mislabeled in the Neo Geo X menu, although this trick has already seen some users install the popular AES Unibios.

Poke By Facebook Is Top Free App On Apple App Store

We do seem to live in a world that is very excited by rankings. There are record sales figures to check out each week, and whenever the weekend is over, movie buffs tend to see whether their favorite movie has made it to the top 10 list in terms of grossing much loved moolah. Well, the same can be said for apps on your smartphones and tablets as well, with Poke by Facebook having made its way to the No. 1 position under the free app category over at the Apple App Store.

Basically, Poke by Facebook will let you send a message which expires in 1, 3, 5 or 10 seconds after being opened, and it will require your finger to be on the screen all the time, meaning screenshots are nigh impossible to take unless you “cheat” by carrying a digital camera with the other hand. I guess Google must be miffed with Poke by Facebook, as the recently unveiled Google Maps for the Apple iPhone was knocked off its perch – and we do think this is rather undignified, especially when Google Maps is far more practical and useful for the masses compared to a Facebook app. Ah well, the world’s a strange place these days.

Xiaomi looking to expand beyond China by testing localized ROMs for Hong Kong and Taiwan

While China might have started off by copying Android smartphones and making low-priced knock offs, they certainly have come a long way with the introduction of high-end devices, such as the Xiaomi Phone 2. Unfortunately those devices are limited to the China market although the good news is that it looks like Xiaomi is interested in taking the party beyond China’s borders. According to Xiaomi’s newly created Facebook page, the company is looking to stop by several Asian regions first before its expansion into Europe, and these regions include Hong Kong and Taiwan. Basically if you know anyone living in either Hong Kong or Taiwan, or if you live in either places yourself, you might be interested to learn that users can enter a draw in which they can be chosen to help Xiaomi test a localized MIUI ROM ahead of its launch.

Word has it that Xiaomi could also be expanding to Singapore, although some believe due to the overwhelming demand of Qualcomm’s 28nm chipsets it is unlikely that the company will be able to meet their goal. Either way this is the first step in Xiaomi’s expansion plans beyond China, so we can only assume that it will be a matter of time before we start seeing Xiaomi’s handsets arrive stateside. After all Huawei and ZTE have done it, we don’t see why Xiaomi can’t, right? Anyone interested in getting their hands on a Xiaomi Phone 2?

The BTPS adds a tire pressure sensor to your bicycle

Cars nowadays come with TPMS sensors which basically let you know when you have a flat tire by monitoring your tire’s pressure. However the same cannot be said for bicycles, at least until now when a Kickstarter project has been launched called the BTPS – Bike Tire Pressure System, in which its creators are hoping to bring to bicycles what car drivers have been enjoying for the past few years. However since bicycles do not come with built-in dashboards or heads up displays, how the BTPS works is that it will relay the information to your smartphone via an app and will accurately read the pressure of your tires between 0 and 174psi. Granted it’s not as convenient as the car version, but for cyclists who cycle often we’re guessing that this is a bonus feature that many wouldn’t mind having, not to mention it helps to ensure that their bike’s tires are regularly inflated.

The BTPS itself weighs about 7 grams so it should add any unnecessary bulk or weight to your ride, and according to its Kickstarter page, the BTPS will be mounted on the rim tape when used with tubeless tires, or stuck directly onto the tube when used with tubed tires. A pledge of $140 will guarantee you the device upon successful funding, so if you’d like to learn more or pledge a donation, head on over to its Kickstarter page for the details.

Sony Xperia TL caught on video showing off Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean features

As we’re sure Xperia owners are aware by now, the official Android Jelly Bean updates for your devices are scheduled for a February 2013 release, which given that it’s almost the end of the year, isn’t that long of a wait. Now the good news is that if you were wondering what sort of goodies you might be able to expect once you get the update, a video by SonyViet has been uploaded online in which the features of Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean can be seen running on the Xperia TL handset, giving us a glimpse of what we might be able to expect in the new year. Some of these new features include a new home screen launcher, new wallpapers, new Album and Movie apps, and a ClearAudio+ feature which apparently will help with boosting audio quality, which also happens to be a feature in the upcoming Xperia V. The video itself is in Vietnamese so unless you speak and understand the language, hopefully the images in the video itself will be enough to give you an idea.

Google serves up reindeer games with Santa Tracker, lets St Nick message your besties

Sure, Google’s not in the Santa Tracking NORAD cabal anymore, but that’s not stopping it from rolling out St. Nicholas-related goodies. It just launched a series of new games, including a chimney / gift dropping challenge, a rocket-powered elf race and a Santa chat that lets you send a droll holiday greeting to your “hoodlum besties.” You can even play Rudolph for a lark and drag Santa around in his sleigh — badly, in our case — so check the source (hint: click the red box at the bottom left) for some holiday cheer, Mountain View-style.
