Woven Wearable Gaming Platform

When the Nintendo Wii was first released to the world, it was met with skepticism – at least until the world realized that motion based gaming ain’t half bad after all. Heck, it could actually be fun, when you think about it. Well, students Christiaan Ribbens and Patrick Kersten from Utrecht School of the Arts, has come up with this unique design that they have dubbed “Woven”, being a near-future exploration on how wearables could be turned into a viable gaming platform.

The Woven wearable gaming platform will rely on Bluetooth connectivity to a smartphone which in turn, will run an app that enables it to control not only the sensors but display as well. What are some of the hardware goodies incorporated into Woven? Well, we are looking at speakers, haptics (motors) and the 144 RGB LED display that function as the primary feedback mechanism for the gaming garment. Apart from that, bend sensors and a heart rate sensor has also been thrown into the mix, and it all seemed to work pretty well when demonstrated on the self-developed “Spooky” ghost hunting and busting game.

Ford to correct Fusion and Escape overheating issue with software updates

Ford has been in the news quite a bit lately, with reports of recalls, malfunctions, and questionable gas mileage estimates, among other things. On December 1, we reported that Ford had initiated a voluntary recall of select 2013 Escape and Fusion vehicles due to issues with engine overheating, which could result in fire. Now, a little over a week later, the company has announced that the problem has been identified and will be corrected with software updates.

The overheating problem is caused by an issue with the cooling system, which was not capable of recognizing and adjusting to loss of pressure. To correct this issue, Ford will issue a series of software updates specifically for the cooling system, which it says will fix the issue. The problem, according to the press release, was identified by a “cross-discipline engineering team.”

The Ford Group’s Vice President of Global Product Development Raj Nair offered this statement. “We remain absolutely committed to continuously improving and providing the highest-quality vehicles to our customers. When a potential issue is identified, we act promptly on behalf of our customers, as we did this time.”

The recall only affects Fusion and Escape 2013 SE and SEL 1.6-liter models sold in the United States and Canada. While waiting for the updates to be released, owners are encouraged to take their vehicles to their local Ford dealership to get alternative transportation (for free) until the problem can be corrected. Continuing to drive one of the recalled models could result in an engine fire.

Kia Car Cheers For Vancouver Whitecaps

When it comes to sporting events, having the right kind of support for your team is important to maintain a strong mental outlook. Case in point where the sport of soccer (or football as the world knows it) is concerned, the supporters are more often than not dubbed as the “12th man” on the pitch. Well, part of a celebration of the 2012 MLS Season has seen South Korean car company Kia and the Vancouver Whitecaps working together, resulting in a rather unique interactive campaign which will trigger a “car cheer” via Twitter.

In a nutshell, each time a fan sent a tweet that has been tagged with #kiacheerwfc, it will triggers a chain reaction. A matter of moments will see the tweet flashed across a couple of 80-inch displays, while a 2013 Kia Rio that is located right between both monster large displays will trigger an amusing cheer, using its entire repertoire of engine, headlights, and control panel to light and rev up to the classic Whitecaps cheer, ”Let’s go Whitecaps!” This is definitely a first, and chances are it won’t be the last, either.

This Sexy Underwear Won’t Get Ruined If You Pee on Them

Like the decidedly unsexy Depends underwear, Dear Kate underwear can hold lady liquid without getting ruined. The secret sauce is the thin wicking material that it’s made of that can withstand three teaspoons. But unlike Depends, you won’t be embarrassed when you strip to your skivvies. More »

Nokia DT910 Charging Plate Teardown

If you are a true blue Nokia fan, are you familiar with the Nokia DT910 charging plate? Well, it is not the most famous of all, simply because the DT900 instead will accompany your Lumia 920 as a free accessory with the purchase of that smartphone. Well, the Nokia DT910 charging plate comes with NFC integrated right into the base, and here is a careful teardown of the DT910 for you to peruse through.

The Nokia DT910 charging plate will come with a trio of coils instead of just one which is within the stand itself. No idea on whether this particular set up will affect charging times in any way or not, but so far, initial impressions do seem to point towards no known noticeable differences between the two. The stand itself has been designed in a far more practical and usable manner, although the plate does seem to be easier to use beyond the confines of your desk or tabletop.

Lego M&M Sorter

When it comes to multi-colored candy like M&Ms and Skittles, some folks just love to eat a particular color. Sorting them out manually is definitely a pin when you think about it, so why not enlist the help of modern day technology to get the job done? This is where the Lego M&M Sorter comes in handy, where it is built using a Lego Mindstorms set, relying on its fair share of color sensors in order get the right color of M&Ms for you to enjoy. We have seen a Skittles sorting machine in the past, just in case you were wondering.

I am quite sure that the kids will definitely be able to appreciate a machine of such capability, where it will be able to leave harried parents some time to take a breather, instead of manually picking out the color of their choice. Definitely one of the more creative uses of a Lego Mindstorms set. So far, in your experience with Lego Mindstorms, just what kind of concoctions have you managed to come up with that are able to at least rival this unique creation?

HTC One XL, ONE X+, EVO 4G LTE Receives PlayStation Certification

It has taken a couple of months to arrive at this situation, but better late than never, don’t you think so? Basically, the PlayStation Mobile store has already received support for a few new HTC devices, and these would include the HTC One XL, the EVO 4G LTE and the One X+. They will be accompanied by the HTC One X, One S and One V bringing the number of PlayStation Mobile-certified HTC devices to six. Sony requires all HTC smartphones except for the One V to run on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system before one is able to enjoy the game store.

As for the HTC One V, Sony says that they are working on rolling out more information concerning the entry-level smartphone at a later date, and so far recent leaks have claimed that the device might not be on the receiving end of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Well, casual gaming on a smartphone is fine and dandy, but if you want to obtain a better gaming experience on the go, relying on a dedicated portable console might be a better idea. Aurora Movie Theater Shooting: Suspect’s Lawyers To Subpoena Fox News Reporter Jana Winter

CENTENNIAL, Colo. — Attorneys for the Colorado movie theater shooting suspect plan to subpoena a Fox News journalist who was the first to report that James Holmes sent his psychiatrist a notebook full of violent descriptions.

The attorneys made the statement toward the end of a court hearing Monday after nine different law enforcement officials denied being the ones to tell reporter Jana Winter about the notebook. The defense argues the disclosure was a violation of a gag order in the case and is seeking sanctions against the leaker.
