Apple corrects potentially deadly Australian map error

Over the weekend, Australian authorities issued a warning to Apple users that Apple Maps had an error that could be “life threatening,” sending users off into a scorching desert-like national park. The problem resulted from the platform confusing a barren state park with Mildura, a city about 44 miles away. In response, Apple has pushed out an update, correcting the issue.

As you can see from the screenshot above, Mildura and the Murray Sunset National Park are a fair distance away from each other. Apple Maps didn’t see it that way, however, and had the city placed in the middle of the national park. Drivers were directed to turn into the state park instead of up to Mildura, something that could be deadly.

As a result of the error, one user ended up lost in the park for 24 hours, with temperatures reaching nearly 115-degrees Fahrenheit during the hottest part of the day. Three other motorist have all been lost in the park as a result of Apple Maps as well, requiring rescue. In response, Australian authorities issued this statement: “We’ve had at least four documented cases. The map puts [Mildura] at least 70 kilometres from where it should be. We have had people bogged down in Sunset country.”

In response to the warning, Apple pushed out an update to Maps earlier today that has Mildura in its correct location. Presently, it is being reported by the Guardian that Apple Maps still lists another Mildura as being located near the park, but that the false city isn’t displayed in searches. The problem originated in September.

Solar Powered Floating Room

If you happen to live in a hurricane-prone areas, then living on a piece of waterfront property is not a good idea at all. For folks who are fortunate enough to live in areas outside of the reach of hurricanes, then a waterfront property would be prime real estate to start a family. A couple of siblings in Sweden have decided to build an innovative, budget-conscious waterfront property by constructing a solar-powered, floating room. They have enlisted the help of Swedish pre-fabrication design house Kenjo, coming up with a unique one-room structure that is made up almost entirely of wood, energy efficient windows, and a rooftop solar photovoltaic system that will help it capture energy so that the room’s electronic devices will not be in want of juice.

The entire room is fully mobile, where it can be moved to different locations via a similar outboard motor which would normally be used to power a small fishing boat. This does sound like a dream house, or should we say, a dream room. Perhaps it is a “room only” version of Noah’s Ark?

The Last of Us Gets May 7th 2013 Release

If you have been wondering just when will Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us be released, well, we have good news for you. Excellent news, in fact. The Last of Us is tipped to be released on May 7th next year, so that would mean a wee bit less than half a year of waiting left to go. I guess you can take the time this Christmas to amass plenty of other games to play through the winter and spring, and just as summer is about to rear its head, you can then pace yourself through those games to finish them just as The Last of Us is released.

A new trailer has been released, where it intends to remove all possible spoilers and yet drop some hints at the tense, emotional narrative which the development team has painstakingly crafted for The Last of Us. Not only that, folks who place a pre-order for The Last of Us will also be on the receiving end of bonus content, where among them include the game’s official soundtrack, a PS3 dynamic theme featuring the cover art, and a couple of avatars for your PSN profile, namely Winter Joel and Winter Ellie. How is that for value? Are you stoked yet?

Google Nexus 4 Plays Nice With AT&T 4G LTE In Select Parts Of US

Google did advertise their Nexus 4 device as an Android smartphone that will feature support for HSPA+ data speeds, but folks who tinkered with their Nexus 4 realized that a 4G LTE chip lies within, and if you happen to reside in the Great White North, you are able to use it to hook up to the Rogers or Telus networks, now how about that for some hardware sleuthing? Majority of the AT&T customers in the US remain on the relatively slower HSPA+ capability, and it seems that select parts of the US has AT&T making use of a wireless band that supported by the Nexus 4. In a nutshell, if you happen to live in one of those bright spots, then you can use the Nexus 4 as a 4G LTE device – right in the US, of course.

Bear in mind that the Nexus 4 is able to hook up to LTE band 4, although not to the majority of the other LTE bands. When in the US, AT&T will use band 17 primarily, but it so happened that they used Band 4 in select markets, hence explaining this phenomenon. Are you one of the lucky ones, or have you decided to uproot yourself and the entire family to Canada instead?

LG Optimus G2 To Feature 5.5-inch 1080p display?

It was not too long ago when the world found out that LG has in its wings, a spanking new Android-powered flagship device that is tipped for a 2013 release, and it will be known as the LG Optimus G2. Of course, judging by the name of the device alone, you can more or less figure out that it will succeed the current Optimus G that you see above, and in all probability, it ought to go up against the likes of the rumored Samsung Galaxy S4 and other different flagship models that will be making their way to the market in 2013.

South Korean publication Asiae says that the LG Optimus G2 would not feature a 5-inch display, but rather, it will make the leap to the phablet category with a 5.5-inch display, sporting 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) resolution to boot. Assuming this is true, then it would be a direct competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 instead of the unreleased Galaxy S4. It ought to come with Android Key Lime Pie (version 5.0, perhaps?), LTE connectivity, a 2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Prime processor and an advanced camera located behind.
