iPhone 5S leaked pics show slight difference to iPhone 5 [Rumor]

We reported a rumor last month that revealed Apple might begin trial production of the next iPhone, for now called the iPhone 5S, by the end of this year. Seeing as its early December, this is as close to “end of the year” as it gets, and because of that, we now have a possible leak of the next iPhone 5S.

According to French website Nowhereelse.fr, photos of what could potentially be the iPhone 5S were leaked onto a forum called iPhone5parts.net. The photos show the exterior of the iPhone 5S looking nearly identical to the iPhone 5, while its innards have a few screws shifted around and what looks like a different speaker towards the bottom of the iPhone 5S.

As of now, the leak should be taken with a grain of salt, especially seeing how the photo could also be of a Chinese iPhone 5 knockoff, which Nowhereelse.fr points out in their report. Although, if you consider the previous rumor puts the new iPhone 5S’ release to take place in Q1 2013, then you have quite the interesting combination that may make this leak true.

Amazon publishes vague numbers surrounding Appstore performance, but they’re sure looking good

Amazon publishes vague numbers surrounding Appstore performance, but they're sure looking good

At this point, expecting Amazon to actually divulge genuine numbers surrounding its Kindle business would be akin to expecting that so-called “fiscal cliff” to just vanish overnight. That said, the company’s playing a little less coy than usual in a new press release that announces A/B testing capabilities for app developers. The useful nuggets are here: app downloads in the Appstore have grown more than 500 percent over the previous year, and the number of GameCircle enabled games available on Kindle Fire has more than doubled since the launch of Kindle Fire HD.

We’re also told that total downloads of the SDKs for In-App Purchasing and GameCircle have more than doubled since the Kindle Fire HD launch and availability of the Kindle Fire HD development resources, while the number of devs with In-App Purchasing incorporated in their apps more than doubled in the third quarter of the year. Of course, it’s hard to draw any serious conclusions without knowing a serious baseline, but much like another company in Washington, it seems that blasting out hard figures is something reserved for those “want-to” moments.

Archos GamePad Now Available

The Archos GamePad, touted to be the first (and true, whatever that meant in the press release) Android-powered games console that is portable, will merge powerful tablet hardware alongside revolutionary gaming software. The big question is this – will it be able to go up against the likes of the Nintendo 3DS when it comes to the portable gaming market, let alone make a dent in the number of Sony PS Vitas sold? Only time will tell, but let us dive into its hardware specifications.

For starters, the Archos GamePad will run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and comes with full access to Google Play as well as Google Mobile Services. You can pick it up for €149.99 in Europe, but folks who are living in the US and Canada will only be able to get their hands on the Archos GamePad sometime in the first quarter of next year. It will pack 14 physical buttons, dual analog thumb-sticks, a special Archos game mapping tool, a 5” capacitive 1024 x 600 resolution, all crammed into a chassis that measures 10mm thin and tips the scales at 330 grams.

The 1.6GHz dual-core CPU and quad-core Mali 400 MP GPU ought to be more than enough for your gaming attempts, and its 8GB internal memory with a microSD memory card slot rounds off the list of features.

Archos GamePad now shipping for 130 Android 41, 16GHz CPU and a bona fide Dpad

You’ve waited long enough, haven’t you? The low-cost PMP leader has kept the mantra alive with its GamePad, which is now shipping to those interested for £129.99. Put simply, it’s a widescreen gaming handheld that runs Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), replete with a 1.6GHz dual-core processor and Mali 400mp quad-core GPU. There’s a 1,024 x 600 resolution touchpanel, physical control buttons and analog sticks, and the whole thing checks in at just 0.3-inches thick. Unfortunately, there’s no word on battery life, but even the optimist in us can’t predict a number that’d be worthy of boasting about. Hit up the source link to make plans for purchase, or click past the break for the full presser.

Update: Anandtech reports the device will come within range of US gaming thumbs early next year, though there’s no dollar price to go with that information.

Albert Hughes Directs “The 7 Wonders of Crysis 3″ Cinematic Series

I think the video game I am most looking forward to in the foreseeable future it is Crysis 3. Not long ago I played through the original Crysis again and the graphics still look good to this day, despite that game coming out years ago.

crysis 7wonder

Crytek has announced that it has teamed up with filmmaker Albert Hughes for a new cinematic video series called “The 7 Wonders of Crysis 3.” If you’re unfamiliar with Albert Hughes, you may recognize some of the films he’s been involved with. Along with his brother, Allen, he co-directed Menace II Society, Dead Presidents, From Hell, and Book of Eli, among other films.

The cinematic video series focusing on Crysis 3 will be used to introduce players to its stunning visuals, dynamic environments, and adaptive warfare to be expected in the game when it launches early next year. The videos will offer glimpses at all seven different environments that the game will put players in. Watch the teaser video for yourself and see what you think.

The shorts will start running on the Crysis website on 12/12/12, and the official launch date for Crysis 3 is set for February 19, 2013.

Facebook may buy Microsoft’s Atlas ad platform

It’s no secret that Facebook wants to expand its advertising prowess, but according to anonymous sources, Facebook is currently in talks with Microsoft to purchase their Atlas advertisement platform. If true, and if they do end up making a deal, it would put Facebook one step closer to launching an ad network that could rival Google’s AdSense.

According to AllThingsD, sources are saying that Facebook is interested in purchasing Microsoft’s Atlas Solutions advertising platform, and are wanting to launch advertisements of their own, which could be used as a competitor to Google‘s DoubleClick and AdSense. Essentially, Facebook could use Atlas to display its own ads on third-party websites, giving the social network yet another revenue stream.

Not too long ago, we told you about how Facebook is planning to share your Facebook activities and habits with other websites in order to serve you targeted adds on these website. Facebook’s acquisition of Atlas may have something to do with these plans, although it seemed like Facebook wanted to build their own in-house network, but it’s possible that they decided that buying an ad network would be the easiest option.

However, even if it turns out to be true that the two companies are in talks, there’s obviously no guarantee that an agreement will be met, and the whole deal could simply just fizzle. However, if the deal does end up going through, changes at Facebook will be imminent, and it could completely change the way advertising is done online forever.

NASA Reveals Amazing ‘Black Marble’ Night Images Of Planet Earth

Nasa-black-marble-earth-07Watching our wonderful planet Earth from afar never looked this good. Behold! You are looking at an unprecedented new look at our planet at night. The scientists at NASA recently published these beautiful cloud-free night images of Earth taken from the new NASA and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) satellite. The images, which forms a composite image, reveals the glow of natural and human-built phenomena across our planet in deeper detail. NASA’s NOAA satellite utilizes a new sensor that can observe the Earth’s surface and atmosphere during nighttime, something that was not possible before.

Most satellites are designed to observe Earth during the day – a time when they can observe our planet fully illuminated by the sun. NASA says that its new sensor, a Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite or (VIIRS), is sensitive enough to detect the nocturnal glow produced by Earth’s atmosphere and the light from a single ship in the sea. Judging from the images in the gallery, you will observe that they were taken gradually over the course of the year. You’ll even see a night image of a gas drilling activity in North Dakota as well as the illuminating waters of the great Nile river. Click on the images in the gallery to enjoy these one-of-a-kind photos of our beloved planet Earth. Cheers!
