Make no mistake, finding an unknown package on your front doorstep is no laughing matter. Unless, of course, you paid money for it to be there. Then you may want to hold off calling the police, like this Hudson, OH man did.
We’ve seen a number of multitouch tables over the years, with the most notable being Microsoft’s PixelSense (formerly known as Surface). But most of these have very large screens and are designed for coffee tables or larger installations. Now, a Korean company called Moneual is set to release a touchscreen PC that’s built into a small cafe table.
While specs and pricing for the The Moneual Touch Table PC have yet to be revealed, it’s clear that the table is ideal for use in places like restaurants and cafes. It could be used to display menus and accept orders in place of printed ones, and also is capable of accepting payments right at the table as well, using what appears to be an NFC reader of some sort. It seems like a pretty cool idea, and certainly would reduce the number of errors that servers make with taking orders. I imagine the same system could be used to let you play games or even surf the internet while you wait for your food.
The Moneual Touch Table PC will be shown off at CES from January 8-11, 2013.
It was inevitable. Drones are in ever-wider use by the military, and some day they might deliver you food, but it looks like they’ll also be the private, flying-camera spies for private companies too. That’s what Japanese security company Secom is banking on with its new private security quadrotor. More »

Fond of your family name? Good — it’s about to get a bit more visible. Foursquare is planning to display full user names on profile pages, explaining in a recent community email that the old policy has become confusing. “If you search for a friend on Foursquare, we show their full name in the results, but when you click through to their profile page you don’t see their last name.” The team says these abbreviations made sense in Foursquare’s early days, but recently users have been asking for change. “We get emails every day saying that it’s now confusing.” The social network hopes that displaying users’ full surnames will help mitigate confusion between the John Smiths and John Smythes of the world.
The company’s tweaked privacy policy promises to share more data with businesses, too, giving store owners greater visibility of customers who have recently checked in. Users who want their quests for coffee to remain anonymous still can, of course — Foursquare was careful to remind users that they can change their “full name” whenever they want, and can opt out of sharing their location information with businesses. We wouldn’t want to step on any toes, would we? Head past the break to see the email for yourself, or check out the adjacent source link to read Foursquare’s “Privacy 101” summary.

U.S. Senate leaders have not yet been able to reach a deal to a avert a “fiscal cliff,” and with time running out, it is uncertain if they will get one, a senior Senate aide said on Sunday.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell have been aiming to reach an agreement by 3 p.m. EST (2000 GMT) so that they can present it to previously scheduled closed-door meetings of their respective Democratic and Republican colleagues in an attempt to beat a New Year’s Day deadline.
However, at this point, they still do not have an agreement, the aide said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
CHICAGO — Part of the Pink Line was shut down Saturday following a four-alarm fire at a Pilsen warehouse that created plumes of smoke that could be seen for miles.
Service resumed late Saturday night.
Firefighters requested the “L” to be shut down after flames and smoke from a fire at a three-story warehouse on the 2400 block of West 21st Street neared the tracks Saturday afternoon. The train is shut down from Polk and Central Park. Trains are operating only between 54th/Cermak and Central Park and 18th Street and the Loop. Shuttle buses are available for passengers traveling between 54th/Cermak and Polk, the CTA said.
WASHINGTON — A plurality of Americans favor President Barack Obama’s proposal for the expiring Bush tax cuts over several other options, an online HuffPost/YouGov poll conducted Dec. 27-28 found.
Twenty-nine percent of the poll’s respondents said they would prefer to end the Bush tax cuts for income about $250,000 — which was Obama’s plan — while a combined 23 percent supported ending the tax cuts at higher income thresholds — which is one possibility in a potential “fiscal cliff” compromise. A majority of Americans therefore favor ending the Bush tax cuts only for upper incomes. Another 23 percent said the tax cuts should be extended for everyone.
