Just days after finally pushing out its redesigned iTunes 11 software, Apple has thrown open the doors to its iTunes music store in 56 new countries today. The list of countries includes Russia, Turkey, India and South Africa where customers can download DRM-free tracks from both major labels and local acts. Additionally, movies from a number of distributors large and small are now available in Russia, Turkey, India and Indonesia, with “select additional countries” gaining access soon. That brings the iTunes store count to a total of 119 countries where it’s pushing media, while the App Store offers 700,000 apps in 155 countries around the world. There’s a few more details (although oddly not an official list of all the countries, but MacRumors appears to have worked them out if you’re interested) in the press release after the break, international listeners can just open up iTunes and see if that buy button is clickable.

NULYX Bluetooth Headset Offers A Different Kind Of High

California-based special effect research firms MediaScience and Team NULYX are working together to develop a new technology that will intensify emotional experiences across all entertainment media platforms. The product of their labor is a new multi-purpose headphone called the NULYX headphone, and it recently made its way into Indiegogo.

According to the makers, NULYX is a new technology that allows producers of media to “accurately engineer the audience experience for peak emotional highs and thrills.” The newly-reinvented headphone reportedly uses a new conductor chip design that silently amplifies waveforms, thus able to generate natural and low frequency pulsed magnetic waves. This, according to the researchers, will allow users to feel “charged, fired-up, amped, and exhilarated” due to the high-fidelity quality sound.

“We selected a special Bluetooth headphone design because the headphone travels widely, is portable, worn and seen on the user and – it’s an experience that can be passed around and shared with friends,” a NULYX researcher said. Do note that we haven’t tried it out yet, so we still don’t know how effective it is, and how the real user experience actually feels like. You can out the product via Indiegogo.

NASA’s Voyager 1 creeps towards interstellar space

The Voyager 1 has found its way into the far reaches of space, specifically to the edge beyond which scientists believe lies interstellar space. This area is within our solar bubble, and is referred to as a “magnetic highway for charged particles.” The findings were detailed earlier today at the American Geophysical Union, which took place in San Francisco.

The magnetic highway detailed in the announcement is explained thusly: the connection betwixt the sun’s magnetic field lines and interstellar magnetic field lines lets high energy particles from beyond our heliopsphere “zoom in,” while letting low-energy particles “zoom out.” When Voyager goes beyond these fields into interstellar space, it is believed the occasion will be marked by a change in the direction of the lines.

One of the project’s scientist Edward Stone offered this statement. “Although Voyager 1 still is inside the sun’s environment, we now can taste what it’s like on the outside because the particles are zipping in and out on this magnetic highway. We believe this is the last leg of our journey to interstellar space. Our best guess is it’s likely just a few months to a couple years away. The new region isn’t what we expected, but we’ve come to expect the unexpected from Voyager.”

Voyager has been traipsing around the outer layer of the heliosphere for years, 5.5 of which were spent with stable solar wind. Over time – and rather suddenly – the solar wind decreased, eventually to zero. Says scientists, if one were to look at the charged particle (solar wind) information, it would seem that the Voyager is already beyond the heliosphere. Other data doesn’t indicate this, however, and so for the time being, it’s still a matter of patience.
