Teen Arrested After Bragging Crime On YouTube

19-year old Hannah Sabata of Stromsburg, Nebraska was arrested by authorities on Wednesday last week after proudly confessing on YouTube that she stole a car and robbed a bank just recently. York County Sheriff Dale Radcliff says that Sabata is now in custody for charges of robbing the Waco bank and stealing a Pontiac Grand Am in York. In the video, Sabata admits that she stole a car, while proudly showing the car keys. She writes, “The shiny new car is a Pontiac Gram Am. Of course I already took the license off and threw them out.”

Sabata also admits that she robbed a bank with a gun, a pillow case, and a note, while flashing the $6,256 that she allegedly took. She even confesses that she told her mom that she just had the best of day of her life. “She just thinks I met a new boy,” she added. Explaining the reason for her actions, Sabata claims that she is a victim of the government, saying that the whole system is just a game, and that the government stole her baby. In spite of everything, Sabata says that she can still find purpose – in jail that is. At least, she will have enough time to re-think her life and to make amends for good.

Vectrex Regeneration for iOS recreates the vector-based console we never got to play

Vectrex Regeneration for iOS recreates the vectorbased console we never got to play

Among those of us old enough to have played first-generation game consoles, few will have tried a Vectrex; we typically clung to the familiar Atari 2600 or rebelled with the still very mainstream Intellivision. Thanks to Rantmedia Games’ new Vectrex Regeneration for iOS, though, we can generate some what-if nostalgia. The app emulates the tall, vector-based system down to its idiosyncratic noises and color overlays, and those with the foresight to own an iCade controller get an extra dose of authenticity. Anyone with at least an iPad 2 or an iPhone 4 can try the freemium title with a free copy of Minestorm to experiment; if they’re fully inclined to drive down memory lane, a $7 Mega Pack will unlock 17-plus original games as well as newer indie releases. Vectrex Regeneration won’t make our parents have second thoughts about their holiday gift choices circa 1982, but it’s cheap enough to provide a valuable (and potentially fun) history lesson.

PengPod and PengStick available for pre-order, will begin shipping in early 2013

The PengPod and PengStick have been floating around for a few weeks, with an Indiegogo crowdfunding expenditure seeking $49,000 in funding. The company has exceeded that number, garnering in excess of $79,000. Now that the goal was hit, the devices are available for pre-order, with shipping starting in January 2013.

A total of three devices are available for pre-order: the PengPod 700 (7-inch tablet), PengPod 1000 (10-inch tablet), and PengStick (mini PC). All three devices run Linux – or Android 4.0, depending on buyer preference – and run Allwinner system-on-a-chip A10s. Also available are a few accessories, including 8GB/16GB/32GB microSD cards with a bootable Linux image, a keyboard/case combo, and a “Linux on flash upgrade” for $5 if you don’t want Android.

The 7-inch PengPod 700 tablet has an 800 x 480 resolution and an HDMI video-out port. There’s a 1.3-megapixel front camera, speakers, and wifi connectivity. It has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage space. You can pre-order one for $110. The PengPod 1000, meanwhile, has a resolution of 1024 x 600, as well as an HDMI port. The front camera is listed as only 0.3-megapixel versus the 700′s 1.3-megapixel. Likewise, it offers 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage space. You can grab it for $175.

The PengStick is a mini PC that measures in at less than 3.5-inches in length, allowing you to slip it into your pocket or bag and easily transport it with you. Video connection works via a mini HDMI-to-HDMI, and the device features a single USB port and 1 USB OTG adapter, 1GB of RAM, and 4GB of internal storage space. You can pre-order it for $75. All three devices can be dual-booted with an SD card. The devices are “expected to start shipping in January.”

Nokia Siemens Networks sells off its optical business, swings focus to LTE

Nokia Siemens Networks logo

Nokia Siemens Networks has long been eager to shed as much weight as it can (unfortunately, including some staff) in a bid to turn around a business full of legacy hardware. The next on the chopping block, however, is a big one: the optical networking division. NSN has struck a deal to sell the fiber-focused group to Marlin Equity Partners and spin it out as a separate company. While the price of the deal isn’t public, we’re glad to hear that the 1,900 workers affected by the shift should keep their jobs if the agreement closes as promised, in early 2013. NSN chief Rajeev Suri makes no bones about the handover’s goal — it’s to let his company concentrate on LTE and other thriving businesses while giving the optical group a second chance through Marlin’s investment, if all goes well. We’re left with an NSN that’s considerably smaller than what we knew from its glory days, but it could be worth the hurt pride if the company stays standing.
