Samsung Galaxy Note II reportedly coming in black, triggers monolithic memories (update: fake!)

Samsung Galaxy Note II reportedly coming in black, still won't be stealthy

Samsung gave Galaxy S III buyers a small rainbow of color choices in the summer, and there’s signs that the Galaxy Note II might receive a similarly resplendent treatment. A supposed press image obtained by AndroidSlash shows the giant smartphone draped in a previously unavailable black that’s potentially very striking — and more than a little reminiscent of 2001‘s species-changing monoliths. There’s no official word from Samsung on its authenticity, although we wouldn’t be surprised knowing the company’s history and the Note II’s strong track record. When a theoretically niche device is selling like gangbusters, some added diversity could be in order. Just don’t expect any Starchildren as a result.

Update: Alas, this is indeed a fake. The source has updated to confirm that this was just a quick darkening job with an image editor — you can tell by the darkened LED flash, camera and logo. But still, we wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung does release its phablet in other colors to keep milking it.

Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid

outlander phev Mitsubishi Outlander Plug In HybridThe Mitsubishi Outlander is a plug-in hybrid that will go on sale in the Land of the Rising Sun from January 24th next year onwards. It will be powered by the Plug-in Hybrid EV System powertrain that is derived from Mitsubishi’s range of electric vehicles (EVs), making this the first plug-in hybrid SUV in the world. This groundbreaking new model is said to deliver superior environmental performance as well as quietness of an EV, not to mention having the stability and handling of a 4WD, as well as the practicality of an SUV.

It is said to boast of a cruising range of 60.2km (which is measured using Japan’s JC08 mode), which means it ought to do well as an EV in majority of everyday situations. Not only that, it also boasts of a total cruising range that places it on a par with internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles (897km at JC08 mode), which would place it alongside traditional SUV usage including long-distance travel and outdoor and leisure activities. We do hope to see this bad boy appear in the US soon, at an affordable price point, too.

Windows 8 ‘Complaints App Done Away With

windows8 complaints Windows 8 ‘Complaints App Done Away WithIt was not too long ago (a matter of weeks, in fact) that there was a new and free Windows 8 app which was given the nod of approval by the folks over at Microsoft to publish it on the Windows Store. This app was known as the Windows 8 Complaints app, where its main purpose of existence was to enable folks to write and share their concerns and problems that they have run into with Microsoft’s most recent operating system for the PC platform. Basically, it will allow you to post your complaints and read/listen to the complaints of others.

It seems that the Windows 8 Complaints app is no more, as it cannot be downloaded from the Windows Store. Not only that, the app’s page has also been removed, although there is still a cached page hanging around somewhere for you to view. Microsoft has yet to get back to the masses as to the reasons behind the removal of the Windows 8 Complaints app, what do you think?

Avengers Owls: Give a Hoot and Assemble Already!

We all have our favorite Avengers. Personally, I’ve always liked Iron Man and Thor the best, but after Mark Ruffalo’s take on the green guy this past summer, I’m beginning to like the Hulk again too. Well regardless of which Avenger is your favorite, we can all agree that owls are pretty awesome creatures. So what could be better than Avengers owls?

Artist Morgan Chambers makes cool stuffed owls based on pop culture figures, among them The Avengers. These 7-inch-tall plush superheroes are handmade using eco-felt, and ready to take on all villains who dare to come their way. Okay, so them may not have any actual superpowers, but they will kill them with cuteness – one of the most dastardly weapons known to villainkind.

Oh, and if you’re feeing villainous, you can always go for the Loki owl.

For $35(USD) you can get a single plush owl, or for $95, you can pick your favorite three , and Morgan will make them for you. Since they are handmade, you’ll have to wait about a week per plush for them to be made, but the end result will be worth it. Just tell those supervillains they have to wait.

Motorola RAZR M HD Rumors

razr m hd Motorola RAZR M HD RumorsThere is a new rumor making its rounds throughout the tech circles that the Motorola RAZR M is about to get a new successor, where it has been dubbed as the Motorola RAZR M HD for now. It is said that the Motorola RAZR M HD will come with a 720p resolution display that also gets a bump in the larger direction to a 4.5” display, although the processor as well as amount of RAM remains the same. There is the very real possibility of it coming with 16GB of internal flash memory though.

Of course, to accommodate this rumored newer generation smartphone, one of the bigger changes in the RAZR M HD would be a far larger 3,300mAh battery, which is a massive jump compared to the 2,000mAh battery that is found on the original RAZR M. We do hope to see more images and perhaps some sort of benchmark or certification of the Motorola RAZR M HD surface, otherwise it would remain the stuff of dreams at the moment.

Samsung Galaxy S IV rumored to arrive in April with S Pen functionality

We’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about Samsung‘s next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S IV, and we don’t expect it die down anytime soon. The latest rumor fresh out of South Korea is that Samsung is preparing the Galaxy S IV for an April 2013 launch, and it’s said that the new handset will come with S Pen functionality right out of the box.

samsung_galaxy_s_III_review_sg_7-580x431121

Multiple Korean sources are saying that the new phone will land in April, and the accompanying S Pen feature hints that Samsung is allegedly looking to bring some of the best features of their Note series to the flagship Galaxy S IV, which wouldn’t be too terribly surprising, even considering how different the two devices are just from the screen size alone.

The alleged April 2013 release windows is right on the money with a previous rumor that we heard at the beginning of the month, saying that Samsung was working on “Project J” that is set for an April 2013 announcement. However, an announcement and an actual release are completely different, so we’re not really sure what to believe at this point.

It’s rumored that the Galaxy S IV will come with a 5-inch 1080p AMOLED display, a quad-core Exynos 5440 chip, a 13-megapixel rear auto-focus camera, and will feature a slightly thicker 9.2mm body, a change that would make the S IV very Note-like this time around, and would explain the S Pen functionality.

US Nissan Leaf Battery Warranty Upgraded

nissan leaf upgrade US Nissan Leaf Battery Warranty UpgradedDon’t you just love upgrades? Owners of the Nissan Leaf in the US would be pleased to hear the words from Andy Palmer, Nissan’s executive vice president, when he wrote concerning a new enhancement to the “warranty coverage of the battery system that powers the Nissan Leaf.” If you were to put it in plain English, that means owners of the Nissan Leaf who has experienced a loss in battery capacity (which has been defined as dropping lower than nine bars in the first five years or 60,000 miles), Nissan will “repair or replace the battery under warranty with a new or remanufactured battery to restore capacity at or above a minimum of nine bars.”

After examining the rest of the electric vehicle manufacturers out there, this move by Nissan would make it the first and only manufacturer in the automotive industry to deliver limited warranty coverage for battery capacity loss for electric vehicles. This move will affect only US Nissan Leafs, ranging from model years 2011 to the upcoming 2013 models, although there is a worldwide plan ready to be implemented.
