Asus ME172V Images Leaked

asus me172v Asus ME172V Images LeakedAnother day, another tablet hits the news wires, and here we are with the Asus ME172V which has seen some images of it being published by a retailer over at Russia. No idea on whether what you see here is the real deal or not in this age of Photoshop, but it would be nice to know that it is, of course. Accompanying benchmarks of the Asus ME172V are also available, and the specifications of the Asus ME172V listed do seem to match up.

Priced at around $225 after conversion, the Asus ME172V tablet comes with 16GB of internal memory, a 7-inch 1024×600 display, 1GB RAM, and a 1GHz processor coupled with a Mali 400 GPU. Nothing earth shattering here, other than it screaming of mid-range functionality. Somehow, it would reassure us greatly if we could see the Asus ME172V announced officially at CES 2013 that is happening in less than two weeks’ time. What do you think of other tablets in a similar price range – would you settle for the Asus ME172V then?

Pokemon marathon aims to hit $100,000 for charity this weekend

Gaming marathons for charity’s sake isn’t anything new. There’s the Super Mario Marathon for the Child’s Play charity, as well as the Zelda marathon for GameToAid. This time around, ExtraLives.org is hosting a Pokethon, a Pokemon marathon that will take place all weekend long and into the new year.

The good folks at ExtraLives.org have raised almost $92,000 since opening their doors in 2009, and they’re hoping this Pokemon marathon will help put them over the $100,000 mark this coming weekend. Starting on Saturday, December 29, the team will be playing three different Pokemon sessions at the same time, each session involving three different Pokemon games.

They’ll start with the old Game Boy titles, and then make their way up into the DS era, campaigning the whole time to try and raise money for charity. In total, the team will try to complete 11 Pokemon games, and they even have some extra games on the list for stretch goals throughout the weekend, including Pokemon spin-offs like Hey You Pikachu.

The event will be live-streamed online, and each of the three streamed screens will be running a different version of Pokemon, and the infamous Pokemon bootlegs will also be making an appearance. All the money that’s raised will be going to Free the Children, so if you have time this weekend, and money to spare, be sure to check it out.

Sony Xperia X Is Odin?

sony xperia x2 Sony Xperia X Is Odin?Don’t you think that it is rather cute to name your smartphone after mythological deities? Well, the long talked about and much rumored Sony C650X smartphone has also been said to go around by its codename “Odin”, where it could very well arrive on store shelves with the designation of Sony Xperia X. Which would make it sound really cool, of course, considering how the Sony C660X “Yuga” has been touted to being called the Xperia Z. While these rumors have not been confirmed just yet, we do know that in this day and age, rumors tend to pan out to be true in the end when the official announcement is made. In fact, some are even saying that the Yuga and Odin are one and the same handset, although one of them has been tailored to cater to the US market, with the other arriving in other markets.

You can find a 5-inch 1080p display on the Xperia X, alongside a quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB RAM, and 32GB of internal memory, alongside Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in tow.

Samsung Reportedly Targeting 510M Phone Sales In 2013, Including 390M Smartphones

samsung galaxy note 2

Samsung is looking to move around 20 percent more mobile phones in 2013 than it did in 2012, according to a new report from The Korea Times. The Korean electronics firm wants to ship 510 million phones in the New Year, which exceeds the 420 million it projected for 2012. The 2013 increase adds anticipated holiday sales to its existing 288 million total devices sold through September. Around 76 percent, or 390 million, of that 510 million will be smartphones, according to a key Samsung supplier speaking to the Korea Times.

These figures are very optimistic compared to earlier projections from Gartner, which pegged Samsung at around 300 million smartphone sales next year at the upper limit. Samsung has since shown itself as a very strong competitor in the latter half of the year, thanks to devices like the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note 2, which have helped the smartphone maker become the top global cellphone brand in 2012, finally overtaking Nokia to win that honor, according to iHS iSuppli projections.

While Samsung execs see a possible slowdown overall for smartphone demand, the company will offer Windows 8 devices and smartphones shipping with TIZEN – a joint project with Intel — in addition to its existing stable of Android-based handsets. It also claims in the report to be considering “better pricing” in developing markets to drive growth, and provide LTE-capable handsets at lower costs in more established markets like North America.

Put in perspective, Apple’s iPhone sales for 2012 totaled just over 125 million, so Samsung’s plan would see it outselling its strongest smartphone market rival by a considerable amount and outpacing its other Android handset maker rivals by even more of a gap. Given how strong the Korean electronics maker has come on in both the Android OEM race and overall smartphone market, that’s not too surprising or unrealistic an expectation for 2013.

Support for stricter laws in the new poll is even higher than it was in another HuffPost/YouGov poll conducted immediately after the shooting took place, when 50 percent of respondents said that that gun control laws should be made stricter.
