Garnet Red PS3 God of War bundle confirmed for North America

If you’ve yet to jump into the God of War series, then boy does Sony have the bundle for you. Today the company announced that it will be bringing its recently revealed Garnet Red PS3 to North America as part of a new God of War bundle. This bundle will feature the latest game in the series, God of War: Ascension, along with every other game in the franchise.

GodofwarPS3

If you think that sounds like a lot of games, you’re right – you’ll be the owner of six God of War games if you choose to pick up this bundle, thanks to the inclusion of the God of War Saga. The God of War Saga takes the first two God of War games for PS2 and gives them a coat of HD paint, tossing the PSP titles Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta in for good measure. It also features God of War III, which was the only game in the series made for the PS3 prior to the announcement of Ascension.

The Garnet Red PS3 in this pack will come equipped with a beefy 500GB hard drive and a matching controller. Aside from the entire God of War series and the PS3, purchasers will also get 30 days of PlayStation Plus, which is just enough time to tempt you into paying for a full year. Sony has given the bundle a price of $349, which doesn’t seem to bad considering the sheer amount of stuff you’re getting.

Of course, God of War: Ascension isn’t out yet, so this bundle won’t be available immediately. It launches on March 12, 2013, the same day as God of War: Ascension. Are you planning to pick up this bundle, or are you already set as far as PS3 is concerned?

Netflix and Hulu AdZone access on Xbox Live is free this weekend

Microsoft is unlocking two of the most popular video-streaming services on Xbox Live this weekend. Xbox Live Silver members will be able to access Netflix without having to pay for a Xbox Live Gold membership. As for Hulu AdZone, you’ll still need a Gold membership on Xbox Live, but you won’t need a Hulu Plus subscription like usual.

Netflix’s new original series House of Cards is debuting this weekend, and it seems Netflix wants as many users as it can get to watch the new show, even if it means unlocking access on Xbox Live. Plus, all episodes of the new show will be available for streaming, so clear all your weekend plans and make sure to tune in if you’re interested.

Furthermore, Hulu’s AdZone on Xbox Live will be completely free this weekend using the Internet Explorer app, as long as you have a Xbox Live Gold membership (you’ll need it to access IE). Since it’s Super Bowl weekend specifically, Hulu is letting users access the Hulu AdZone in order to watch all the commercials from this year’s Super Bowl, as well as commercials from as far back as 2008 that aired during the big game.

Again, both Netflix and Hulu’s AdZone (not Hulu Plus) will be available for free. You’ll still need a separate Netflix subscription in order to access the service, but Hulu AdZone will be completely free (even if you don’t have a Hulu Plus subscription) for Xbox Live Gold members. Happy watching!

Samsung Teases Upcoming Superbowl Ad For Its Galaxy Devices

The Superbowl is just days away and many sports and non-sports fans will come together to enjoy a championship football game, chips with an insane amount of dip selections and, of course, commercials.

For years now, companies have chosen the Superbowl as their moment to reveal a new commercial for whatever product they’d like to promote. We’ve seen classic commercials from Budweiser, Doritos and Snickers over the years, and this year, Samsung is planning on to run an ad during the Superbowl which we expect is to further promote its Samsung Galaxy devices.

Nikon Coolpix AW110 and S31 ruggedized cams see some action at CP+ (hands-on video)

Nikon Coolpix AW110 and S31 ruggedized cams see some action at CP, we go handson video

You might figure that a climate-controlled exhibition center would offer a safe haven for even the most delicate of electronics, but with thousands of consumers getting handsy with these gadgets, many devices take quite a beating during a week-long trade show. No drop to the floor, counter crush or attendee sneeze is too much for these ruggedized Nikons, however. The Coolpix AW110 and S31 were both designed with wild lifestyles in mind, with waterproof and shockproof housings offering protection on land and under the sea. Our test location this week was limited to a display counter positioned front and center at Nikon’s CP+ booth in Yokohama, so we can’t speak to durability, but both offerings look convincing enough.

With a sticker price of $350, the AW110 is certainly the higher-end of the two. We were particularly taken with the 3-inch OLED display, which looked fantastic — it’s perhaps the sharpest screen we’ve seen on any ruggedized model. The 5x internal zoom lens wasn’t speedier than we expected, but it’ll get the job done. The S31, however, looks very much like a child’s plaything. And, considering the $120 MSRP (for a ruggedized camera, no less), it seems to be priced as such. We’ll let you make that call for yourself, however — take a closer look at both point-and-shoots after the break.

CalypsoKey Brings Missing NFC Technology to the iPhone, Sorta.

One of the things that a lot of people have long lamented as missing from the iPhone is near field communications technology. NFC technology allows smartphones to do all sorts of interesting things such as share content or make purchases by simply holding the phone close to a compatible device. A new product called CalypsoKey has surfaced that adds NFC to the iPhone.

calypsokey

The system includes a case for the iPhone adding NFC technology which allows users to store their entire selection of NFC identification cards inside the Calypso case. Using the device you can unlock doors, check in at your office, or even open your garage. Calypso decided to keep things simple, avoiding the use of an app or the iPhone itself, instead providing batteryless NFC data storage in the case itself, so it never needs recharging.

The case has a 13.56 MHz RFID antenna inside with 1k memory capacity. It also has a second 125 kHz RFID antenna built-in. The two antennas make the case compatible with most RFID-based NFC access points for locking systems. The company doesn’t show exactly how you transfer NFC data to the Key, but does mention it’s compatible with Kaba RFID locks among others.

The NFC-enabled CalypsoLoop case sells for $119(USD) with the CalypsoRing costing $129. The CalypsoKey versions of the case are only available for the iPhone 5.

Motorola ‘X Phone’ Referenced In LinkedIn Job Listing

Motorola X Phone Referenced In LinkedIn Job Listing

Ever since the Wall Street Journal revealed Google’s intent to work with Motorola to create their “X Phone,” which they plan to have it compete with iPhone and Galaxy devices, we’ve been keeping a close eye on any news regarding the device. So far, we heard rumors the X Phone is an unbreakable Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie device expected for a July release.

We’re not hearing anything as exciting as those previous rumors today, but instead, it seems Motorola may have confirmed such a device exists through a LinkedIn job posting. The job posting at Motorola is seeking a Senior Director of Product Management for something called “X-Phone.”

Since it was stumbled onto this morning, the LinkedIn listing has since been yanked, although a similar job posting can be seen within Motorola’s jobs database, except without any mention of the “X-Phone.”

Unfortunately for us and the X Phone-curious world, the job listing doesn’t detail anything in regards to the device. For the most part, it’s a typical looking job posting you would see anywhere on LinkedIn. Although, we know whoever becomes the ideal candidate for Motorola’s listing will have quite the task ahead of them. Is Peter Moore doing anything these days?

TVCatchup reaches Windows Phone 8 in the UK

TVCatchup reaches Windows Phone 8 in the UK

British Windows Phone owners won’t have to let their TV viewing habits slip while they’re on the move. TVCatchup has just posted the promised Windows Phone 8 version of its streaming app, giving locals access to live programming from the BBC, ITV and others. OS-specific optimizations aren’t extensive, but they exist — it’s possible to pin a favorite network to the Start screen, and to use voice commands to jump directly to a channel or guide. Viewers just need to hit the Windows Phone Store to stay on top of the latest shows with their Lumias.

Google Glasses make an appearance at the FCC

We already know that the Explorer Edition of Google Glasses is about to make its public debut shortly, but not before it makes a trip through the FCC first in order to get approval for public sale. An application for Google Glasses was spotted at the FCC, and we’re now getting a closer look at the details of the HUD-equipped glasses before they get handed out to developers.

google-glasses-fcc copy

In the FCC paperwork, the model number is referred to as “XEB,” and this was the first model that was tested back in November. The application mentions that the glasses will have 2.4GHz 802.11 b/g WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0, but it won’t support both at the same time, meaning communication can only be active through one or the other at a time.

Other than that, we’re not seeing anything else too special, but we’re positive that we’ll hear more about them in no time. Of course, we were promised a January 2013 release date for the glasses back during Google I/O, and now it looks like it won’t be for a couple more months, but a trip through the FCC is proof that these glasses are actually real, and that we’ll see them real soon.

We saw glimpses of Google’s Glass project earlier last year, and at Google I/O over the summer, the company went all-out to demonstrate the new technology. Developers will be able to get their hands on a pair soon, at a price of $1,500, while regular consumers are said to be able buy a pair sometime within a year from now.
