Next Madden game coming August 27, name change imminent

The NFL football season is almost over, with the season-ending Super Bowl being held this Sunday. However, Electronic Arts is already planning out its next football game for the 2013-2014 season. The company has announced that the next Madden will be arriving August 27, 2013, but it looks like they’ll be taking a different approach this time around.

According to the EA Sports website, the developer has announced, “Madden 25 coming soon,” suggesting that the next Madden title won’t actually be called Madden NFL 14, but just Madden NFL 25. It wouldn’t be the first time that a Madden game didn’t use the traditional yearly naming scheme, but it’ll mark the first time since 1991 that they’re breaking away from it.

If you didn’t know, the next Madden game will mark the series’ 25th anniversary, and according to the graphic above, as well as the title of the blog post on the EA Sports website, it looks like the developer will be naming the game after its anniversary. The blog post on their website says to come back for more details, and since they usually officially announce the next Madden title during the Super Bowl, we may get more details come Sunday.

The Madden series started in 1988 when it was called John Madden Football. The first game came out for MS-DOS, as well as Commodore machines and the Apple II. It wasn’t until 1991 when the series started put the year after the game’s name, starting with John Madden Football ’92. Then, in 1993, the series was renamed to Madden NFL, and has remained as such ever since.

Sony confirms its My Xperia smartphone recovery service, starts limited trials

Sony confirms its My Xperia smartphone recovery service, starts limited trials

Sony piqued its fair share of interest when it trademarked the My Xperia name for an online service — what could it do in the cloud that it hadn’t already done? Tracking lost devices, it seems. The now-official My Xperia service trial gives Sony phone owners the equivalent to a recovery tool like Find My iPhone or the early form of HTCSense.com, letting them pinpoint a missing Xperia and ping it, lock it down or wipe at least some of its data. Be ready for a very gradual launch, however. The very first wave of tests involves just Xperia acro S users in Nordic countries, and the trial will expand only to 2012 smartphones in the region that are still running Android 4.0. Those of us further abroad will have to wait for the eventual worldwide expansion if we want to easily find that Xperia S buried between the couch seats.

Facebook Gift Card Announced

Facebook Gift Card AnnouncedFacebook, a modern day technological success story, has fallen back onto old school marketing techniques when it comes to announcing the availability of Gift Cards which can be purchased online for a friend or relative living elsewhere. Basically, Facebook users will soon be able to gift their mates items from Jamba Juice, Olive Garden, Sephora, and Target, thanks to the introduction of the reusable gift card from Facebook.

How does it work? The premise is rather simple, really, where you first pick a gift for your friend from the Gift Cards & Digital category. Following that, choose a value and complete your purchase. Your friend be informed immediately about your gift, and checking their mail, they should see a Facebook Card in the mailbox not too long after. They can then take a quick trip to a nearby retailer that you have selected, and spend whatever credit is in there. Best of all is, Facebook Gift Cards are reusable, and each card can hold multiple gift balances, with individual balances dedicated to the associated retailer. Expect the ability to send a Facebook Card gift being made available in stages to folks living Stateside.

If only Facebook Gift Cards were launched before Christmas last year…[Press Release]

Grand Theft Auto 5 Delayed Until September 2013

Grand Theft Auto 5 Delayed Until September 2013

One of the biggest games to be released in the first quarter of 2013 has just become one of the biggest games to be released in the third quarter as Rockstar Games is announcing today its Grand Theft Auto 5 is being delayed until September 2013.

Rockstar has been teasing gamers for the past couple of months with a combination of screenshots and trailers while its release date has been pushed back on a regular basis. We first heard rumors of a possible December 2012 release, then Rockstar revealed they’d be releasing the game this March, but today has crushed their fans hopes in having the game available in two months.

Before you head to Rockstar Games’ social media profiles to complain, there is good news in all this as the company did confirm an official release date. Grand Theft Auto 5 will be releasing on September 17, 2013 on Xbox 360 and PS3. That is – unless they decide to announce another delay, but something tells us that won’t happen again.

OK – now that all of the information is out there, feel free to do what you do best: head to Twitter and Facebook and complain to Rockstar about today’s news. We’re sure they’ll love to hear what you have to say.

Twitter Outage Being Worked On

Twitter Outage Being Worked OnFor a social networking tool such as Twitter to experience an outage can be said to be an outrage for users, but to have the outage happen twice in a single month has been deemed as unacceptable to many. Apparently, there was another outage for the popular micro blogging service earlier today, where plenty of users ran into issues when they tried to access Twitter.com as well as third party mobile applications for Twitter, but it must also be noted that the Twitter service had also been restored to many users since then. Apart from that, the new video sharing service from Twitter known as Vine also had service disruption issues.

Twitter posted on their status blog earlier this morning, “Some users may be experiencing issues accessing Twitter. Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue.” A similar message was posted on Inauguration Day as well, but on the whole, Twitter has managed to improve its service by a substantial margin over the years as they made efforts to increase their server capacity in order to cope with its growing user base. Is Twitter still down for you?

Evoland Game Evolves As You Progress

If you thought that you have seen it all when it comes to video games, then you will be mighty pleased to check out the Evoland trailer above. This title from Japan is a new game from Bordeaux-based Shiro Games is about to be fully baked, with its release being a matter of weeks now. What makes Evoland different from all the other titles that we’ve seen so far is not its genre, but rather, aspects of gaming that we tend to take for granted all this while, including its graphics, sound and gameplay mechanics.

A picture speaks a thousand words, and a video says volumes more. After reading what we have to say about Evoland, watching the YouTube video does it justice. Basically, Evoland will be an RPG title that will gradually change from graphics, sound and gameplay that you find in titles which hail from the early 1980s, before “evolving” to those of the 1990s before hitting the kind of polygonal gaming goodness that we are so familiar in modern day action RPGs.

There are elements of The Legend of Zelda, Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy thrown into the mix, letting gamers experience the different technological advancements of the genre first hand. Basically, you end up with a very different game from where you begun with.

Bing Apps For Office Hopes To Increase ProductivityWant to up the ante when it comes to enhancing your productivity? I don’t know about you, but ever since Google Docs (and its subsequent iteration, Google Drive) was introduced, I tend to do a whole lot more work on the cloud than ever before, and the peace of mind that my work files are stashed away there safely is always a comforting one. Well, Microsoft does not want to miss out on the cloud bandwagon and has offered five Bing Apps for Office for free which can be used within Office products including Microsoft Excel and Word.

The entire idea for such apps was to make Bing available in convenient and intuitive ways which will also take full advantage of knowledge that Bing has managed to garner when it comes to search. BlackBerry 10 gets major gaming boost from Gameloft library

This week with the introduction to the world of BlackBerry 10 comes a collection of apps that’ll be setting the BlackBerry world on fire, Gameloft style. With a set of 11 games that are here being optimized for BlackBerry 10 gameplay, the developer team at Gameloft gives the BlackBerry 10 OS a fighting chance at not just looking like a system worth using, but acting like it too. This list begins with UNO – the card game everyone really should know how to play.

gaminglovffaawe

The list of games created by Gameloft and here optimized and ready for play on BlackBerry 10 devices goes on with N.O.V.A. 3; Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance, the shooter you simply must play one way or another – it’s also out for iOS and Android. Most of these games have already been released for iOS, Android, or both systems at once and have proven themselves to be winners above and beyond one platform – so it’s time to keep the force strong with BlackBerry 10!

You’ll also find Shark Dash, Oregon Trail American Settler, Ice Age Village, and Real Soccer 2013 for you sports enthusiasts. Top-tier names like The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises are also included on this ultimate list, bringing double-down brand power to the platform. You’ll find Let’s Golf! 3 on the list as well as Six Guns – that’s another shooter-type game in which you’re chilling in the old west with a variety of weapons and high-action battling abilities at your disposal.

Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour is one of the higher-end shooter games you’ll find on any platform, Gameloft bringing it to BlackBerry 10 right here at the dawn of its creation. Shark Dash, N.O.V.A. 3: Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance, and UNO will be available first and immediately if not soon, while the rest of the list will be unleashed in the coming weeks. Also last but not least, and also coming out with the launch of BlackBerry 10 right at the beginning is none other than Asphalt 7: Heat – the most beastly racing game in modern times – for mobile, that is.

HTC M7 March 8 Release Date A Possibility

HTC M7 March 8 Release Date A PossibilityThe Taiwanese smartphone company known as HTC do seem to have fallen into a rut where their smartphone releases are concerned, without really returning to their pinnacle as they hit a purple patch in the market a couple of years ago. Well, word has it that HTC intends to fight their way back to the top of the game with a new flagship model which very little is known about, namely the HTC M7.

The new HTC M7 flagship device does seem to have HTC executives fancy its chances against the next king of Android-powered smartphones (in all theoretical probability anyways), which would be the next iteration of the Samsung Galaxy S device. Having said that, it seems that HTC wants to launch a pre-emptive strike of sorts, by rolling out the HTC M7 this coming March 8, which would be slightly more than a couple of weeks after the rumored official February 19 announcement for the HTC M7. Let us hope that HTC will shed more details on the situation, other than just having the M7 arrive in black and silver/white options.
