Short Bouts Of Physical Activity Can Help You Meet Exercise Guidelines, Study Shows

You don’t have to be a gym rat to get your daily exercise, according to a new study.

The findings, published in the American Journal of Health Promotion, show that small bouts of physical activity throughout the day — that which comes from activities like raking the leaves, mowing the lawn or taking the stairs — count as exercise just as much as designating a period of time to work out at a gym.

“Our results suggest that engaging in an active lifestyle approach, compared to a structured exercise approach, may be just as beneficial in improving various health outcomes,” study researcher Paul Loprinzi, an assistant professor at Bellarmine University who conducted the research while at Oregon State University, said in a statement. “We encourage people to seek out opportunities to be active when the choice is available. For example, rather than sitting while talking on the phone, use this opportunity to get in some activity by pacing around while talking.”

Henry Barbour On Climate Change: There Are ‘Two Sides To Every Issue’

Henry Barbour, one of five Republicans tasked with rethinking GOP strategy following the 2012 elections, refused to say if climate change is one of the areas his party should address, stating that “there’s certainly two sides to every issue.”

During a Thursday appearance on NPR’s On Point to discuss the Republican Party’s post-election regrouping, Barbour fielded a question from a caller who lamented that Republicans have largely ignored climate change, often “denying that this is a problem.”

“Well, with the Republican Party what it has to be about is fixing problems,” Barbour, a Mississippi Republican National Committee member, responded. “Whether it’s dealing with the environment or whether its dealing with security, education, or spending, or whatever it is.”

NASA launches TDRS-K satellite to ‘replenish aging space network’

NASA launches TDRSK satellite to 'replenish aging space network'

There’s nothing worse than an old space network, but thankfully NASA’s working on getting some new technology into orbit. The organization just launched the first of three new satellites on the back of a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket, the first step in the “replenishment of our aging space network,” according to project manager Jeffrey Gramling. The TDRS-K offers up tracking, telemetry and more, in order to improve communications for space exploration. The satellite is entering a three-month test period, before NASA actually puts it into action. Next year, it will be joined by the TDRS-L, followed by the TDRS-M, which is set to be fully built by 2015.

LA Catholic Archdiocese Releases Priest Abuse Files

(Reuters) – After years of legal battles, the Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles on Thursday released the files of priests accused of molesting children and removed a senior clergyman who had been linked to efforts to conceal the abuse.

The archdiocese also said the clergyman’s former top aide had stepped down.

“The 2013 public release of the files of clergy who were subject of the 2007 global settlement concludes a sad and shameful chapter in the history of our local church,” the archdiocese said in a statement.

Disabled Cat Gets Wheelie Legs From Student Robot Club

Cats might not be man’s best friend, but there is a segment of the population who love all things feline as well. Flipper, whom you see in the video above, is a cat who was born with a twisted spine, and that basically sucks since she is unable to walk with all fours being on the same plane. That translates to a disabled cat, one that has to drag her hind quarters each time she intends to get around. Members at the Blitz Robotic Club at Conifer High School in Colorado decided to pool their talents and time together to build Flipper a pair of wheels so that she can get around with ease.

This unique invention has given Flipper a new lease of life, and you can say that Flipper is the latest addition to the galaxy of cat videos permeating the Internet. It is hoped that doctors might be able to restore communication over Flipper’s entire spinal cord in the long term, but at least this intelligent pseudo-walker for Flipper will have to make do for the moment.

US Court Denies Sales Ban Of Samsung Galaxy Nexus

US Court Denies Sales Ban Of Samsung Galaxy NexusApple’s attempt to ban the sales of the highly regarded Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone in the US was thwarted by the US Appeals Court, and with the rejection of this sales ban attempt, we can all look forward to the trial between Samsung and Apple that is set to commence in March 2014. Well, that is still more than a year away, and who knows, the iPhone 6 or iPhone 7 might be out by then, and no one would think about the Galaxy Nexus anymore, as there will be far newer devices from Samsung which would have hit the market already.

Apple first picked up victory when it came to banning the sales of the Galaxy Nexus, but that decision was reversed in October last year by the appeals court, claiming that in the decision made last year, the California court which approved the initial ban had “abused its discretion.” There is plenty more courtroom drama coming our way in the near future, and do expect both behemoths in the consumer electronics industry continue to slug it out against one another.

Nokia Lumia 810 LTE Update From T-Mobile Possible

Nokia Lumia 810 LTE Update From T Mobile PossibleIt seems that the good people over at T-Mobile have begun to have a better idea when it comes to keeping up with the times, by being ready to bring about LTE connectivity to devices connected on their network. So far, there has been limited testing being conducted on several devices which are available on T-Mobile, such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 that comes with LTE hardware underneath the hood, right out of the box. All it needs is a software update, and you’re good to go. Well, it seems that another device has been added to the list, that would be the Nokia Lumia 810 with its very own LTE-enabling update.

Engadget claims that a T-Mobile representative has confirmed that the Nokia Lumia 810 will be on the receiving end of an update which will bring LTE connectivity to the smartphone, although the fated date as to when that might happen has yet to be confirmed at time of publishing. T-Mobile’s LTE network has barely outgrown its diapers so far, so do remain patient and bide your time.
